𝐙𝐀𝐈𝐀 shook her head after listening to the young woman's response she bumped into. 'no, no, it's all my fault. but, you brought my anxiety down a bit confirming that you are okay' a small chuckle escaped from her lips as she tried to lighten up the mood with a joke. had this been anyone else, she knew the response wouldn't have been as easy and friendly. so she was glad she ran into someone who seemed to have a similar vibe. furrowing her eyebrows at the question she was asked, she forgot that she was holding her camera with her freehand. 'daily buz-' her dark brown orbs took a glance around until she spotted her camera. 'oh! forgive me, i forgot i was even taking in the scenery. definitely not a reporter, but attempting to get back into my photography phase.' she stated with a grin appearing across her features. 'i haven't used my camera in a long time. so i'm just reliving certain memories from it.'
"interesting." she smiled thoughtfully after listening to the other explain their situation. "well, you certainly chose a great spot to do that! the garden here is second in beauty only to our own gardens of the mugunghwa estate!" dasom was always proud to boast of the house despite the flaws occurring behind closed doors every day. "i think that that's very lovely of you to do. i've never been behind the camera as much as in front." she giggled. "you do look familiar though. have we met somewhere before?"
It was late, Yujin was making his way back to the Gladiolus Estate after a training session but with the striking realization that he was starving, the raven haired guy decided to stop by Sweet Brier tea house to get some snacks. After getting in line and paying, Yujin took the bag to go. But before continuing on his way, he saw a suspicious movement and decided to check. The crime rate had increased in town with the New Year, from pickpocketing to store thefts. After he analyzed the situation, with a mix of fear and adrenaline coursing through his veins, Yujin jumped to action. "Jagi-ah, I finally found you!” He exclaimed, a grin making way into his lips and both arms coming up to hug the other person as he approached them. He didn’t dare say anything else before they were close enough that he could whisper. “Play along, you’re being followed. I counted three guys wearing black clothes and masks but I think there’s two more in hiding. They saw me and I doubt they’d try anything now. Walk with me, anyway. Let me escort you back to wherever you were going.” He said it was as tight lipped as possible, considering the others might be able to read lips from a distance. “Look, I got your favorite!” Yujin said louder, still smiling and playing for the audience, picking up a brownie and feeding it to the other person.
the air at the estate was stifling. she didn't know what exactly she had planned to do, but dasom knew that she desperately needed to get away for a while. eventually, she found a nice distraction amongst the varying dresses and jewels at boutique byeol, not realizing how dark it had gotten until the staff attending to her had begun to look rather antsy and uncomfortable, shooting quick glances at a nearby clock on the wall. it was then that she realized she had unintentionally extended their business hours and that it was time to begrudgingly make her way back home.
slowly, she dragged her feet through flora lane but she soon found herself snapping out of her daze at a sudden hug. "what are you—?! yujin??" as the other quickly explained the situation, dasom peered behind him with cautious eyes, growing stiff at the sight of the aforementioned shadowy figures. it took all her might not to break down and cry in fear of the moment, but she trusted yujin and intended to do her best to play along (for both of their sakes). "wow! you're so considerate!" dasom did her best to laugh a long, but even she could hear the quiver in her voice.
"yujin what do we do? i think they're getting closer." she whispered.
replies are comin...just not in time for the end of the event i fear HAHA. i hope everyone has been having a great first month of 2024 so far! we've had a lot of trainees coming in at work so i've been a bit fatigued, but i'm gonna try to hop on again for writing more and officially get some threads up for mitsuki like i promised!
what is your idea of the perfect date?
"i have just the answer for the perfect date!" dasom giggled excitedly. "the best season for this would be lilac, amongst the beautiful and bright flowers freshly in bloom, starting the day off with a sweet stroll throughout the morning market in the town square. after that, if we so fancy, perhaps another walk through the gallery as we discuss our thoughts on each of the season's top pieces. and once we begin to form an appetite, we would go on a private drive out to lovers lake, where a quaint picnic setup would be waiting for us! there, we would spend most of the day resting in the comfort of each other's presence before catching a romantic viewing of an opera from a private booth seating. last, but certainly not least, the most perfect way to end a perfect date would be a goodnight kiss at the doorstep of the estate as we go our separate ways." all throughout the response, dasom can't help the flourishing blush of red in her cheeks.

daewon's night had been going rather well; with the aid of his third glass of wine, he had made it through the second round of socialization that he had been thrust back into. had he not chosen to go back and look at the artwork that was in front of him, he would have written everything off as a great success.
the resemblance of the woman in the painting to that of im hyejin was just uncanny; his mother's face was one that he hadn't been able to see in seventeen years. he normally misses her presence the most at this time of year. people are encouraged to spend time with their families during the holidays, yet daewon is left feeling so alone, even in the presence of his adoptive siblings. as he was thinking about all of this, something in daewon suddenly broke, causing the flood gates to collapse and the waterworks to begin.
upon hearing his name called, daewon began furiously wiping at his tear-stained face with the sleeves of his suit jacket before turning to look towards the owner of the voice. through hazy vision, both effected by his intoxication and the tears streaming down his face, he could still see her, or rather, he could make out her bright red hair. of course, dasom would find him in this state.
“noo..” despite himself, the denial itself comes out as a whine. “i just got somethin' in my eye.”
"you are." dasom jutted out her lower lip in a deep pout. "liar." the younger murmured in a drunken stammer before dragging her feet closer to the other. under normal circumstances, she would have taken his words at face value, never prying to discover the truth despite how desperately she longed to. overtime, she'd managed to convince herself that it was out of respect to her betrothed's privacy. however, dasom knew deep down that she made the conscious decision to walk away out of fear that the other would grow to hate her for crossing the boundaries of their fake engagement.
tonight, however, she was aided by liquid courage. against her better judgement, dasom decided that she would not walk away! she couldn't remember the last time they'd been together in the same room outside of officially arranged meetings. perhaps she would finally give him a piece of her mind!
"jus' what're you doing aaaaall the way over here all on your own by yourself?" in her mind, dasom's words were assertive and intelligent (a far cry from the reality of her slurred words). "did you want to leave my side that badly?" she'd turned a blind eye to the irony of her words— but that discussion would be for another day.
✷ A FLOWER'S MEANING ( continued with dasom / @dasom-bh )
( ... ) as she perused through the different stalls, she found a familiar face in the foreground of her vision. making her way over with haste, dasom quickly adjusted her hair as she moved, stopping only a few steps behind the other. the younger figured that she'd wait patiently until he'd disengaged from his conversation with the vendor before surprising the gladiolus heir with a bright greeting.
something about the old woman’s voice is calming. at least- it catches yeonsu’s attention out of all the buzz surrounding the market as citizens go on about their errands and shopping. she’s tucked into a small corner between two larger stalls, making her look much smaller than she seems (in yeonsu’s mind something about the look in her eyes reminds him of his mother) and maybe that’s why he stops.
she says a few things as he stares at her before staring into the flower in her hands- completely unaware that he’s already tuned her out. he does catch something about ‘good luck’ however before he nods figuring that she’s going about her sale’s pitch to convince customers to buy what she has to sell.
it’s a quick exchange as yeonsu pulls out a generous amount of coins and hands them to her with a quiet, “keep the change.” he’s already turned and started walking away as she thanks him for his kindness and in doing so, missing the way she also chimes about good luck (because if yeonsu had been truly listening- he’d have heard that the story behind that flower was very much significant to beonhwa’s culture of love).
"have you decided to purchase that orchidaceae for someone special?" she'd finally chosen to make her presence known with the simple and nosy question. though she was no professional by any means, dasom had always been curious in the love language of flowers, always looking deeply into the meanings of gifts she was often showered with. similarly to roses, the particular flower was said to symbolize love and commitment between couples.
"i hadn't realized that the gladiolus heir had already found a suitor so soon after his return to society."
if there was something you could undo in your life, what would it be?
dasom had managed to come up with more responses than she thought possible. among them had been her engagement, her relationship with her siblings, her relationship with her parents, and her desire to go against expectations and strive to be mugunghwa’s next head of house. “perhaps, the way i react to situations in my life. if i could be more forthright with my desires, things would probably much different than they are now.”

what is one thing you wish people knew about you?
”hmmm…” she’s supposed to be honest, but she feels a bit scared to be as vulnerable as the truth would allow. what dasom really wishes others would know of her is how scared and lonely she really is in the mugunghwa estate, but the youngest daughter can’t quite bring herself to confess it. “perhaps that i’m really glad that my mother allowed me to wear such a fancy dress to the gala this year rather than our usually traditional attire.”

when was the last time you told someone you loved them?
"genuinely?" she has to take a moment to truly sit on the thought. "i don't believe i have ever said it, at least not in such a significant manner that i can recall. i've been waiting for my very special someone."

By now, Yujin had grown accustomed to people assuming Juyeon would be near whenever they spotted him, the two were rarely seen apart. The second heir of the Gladiolus house was suddenly reminded that he was the one to cancel their plans last time and made a mental note to make new ones before their birthdays arrived since they usually celebrated together. “I won’t tell him about meeting you here, don’t worry.” Yujin assured.
“I’m actually glad that’s the case or else I’d have to chase down that tall and handsome young man to teach him proper manners.” He joked. But Yujin would’ve been mad at the person for leaving her behind all the same. “Well, if you truly wish to be on your own…” He let go of Dasom for a moment, turning to skate away and went ahead a few steps in response to her comment saying she wanted to hide. But Yujin came back soon after, holding her hands to guide them, while chuckling. “Always.” Was his simple answer, sending his friend a playful wink. But he honestly meant every sense of the word. Yujin would be there for her whenever she needed. He was glad to notice how she was slowly improving as they went. "Ready to try to go faster now?" He asked after a while.
“Is that so? Then, I have to ask: "Who would you like to be caught under the mistletoe with?” He would respect her decision not to answer if that was the case, but the young man couldn’t help his curiosity at the same time. Hearing the mention of Yeonsu, the younger Yi sibling’s smile faltered for a moment. But it was so quick that if you blinked you’d miss it. Most of his current worries revolved around his brother. “That’s true but I guess you haven’t heard yet.” He paused, one hand going up to scratch at his neck. “There’s a lot Yeonsu doesn’t remember. In a way it’s like he’s learning everything again and that takes some time.” Yujin explained as they took yet another turn in the lake. “It’s quite a relief to be able to sit back and just watch things unfold but at the same time, I’m worried if it could be too much for him.” He confessed.
was there a part of her that felt excited at the idea of a secret being shared between the two? dasom would neither confirm nor deny. she could, however, admit that it felt nice not to feel like a little puppy tagging along with her big brother for once.
all at once, dasom felt a flurry of different emotions. she felt thankful that he was more than ready to step up for her had she been left alone. she also felt her heart race— even if only for a moment— at the reassurance that he would be there to catch her. but why? was it because she was still afraid of losing her balance on the ice, yet again? yes...that must be it. dasom convinced herself that it was simply the other looking out for her as a childhood friend and best friend of her brother. "i think remaining at this pace is fine for now." her voice was strained as she squeezed on his hand a little tighter.
at the other's question, dasom felt the color in her cheeks rise once more (though she was more than ready to blame it on the weather were anyone to ask). she'd simply been making a passing joke, given her reputation, but never truly gave the idea of being caught under the mistletoe any honest thoughts. had yujin always been this cheeky? perhaps she just never thought much of his words as it was rare for the two to be alone. "i'm sure the answer to that question is obvious, isn't it?" the younger stammered, evading an actual answer as it, in fact, was not obvious, even to herself. "i think that you're starting to sound as if you're his older brother." she giggled, but could sense the the other was genuinely concerned about the situation. having his older brother return home after so many years must've been quite the shock, yet yujin hardly let it show.
in an attempt to lighten the mood, dasom let go of the support offered by the other's hand, rushing to skate just a few paces ahead of him. "and what of you? maybe there's someone you'd like to get caught under the mistletoe!"
do you think you would've been better off betrothed to someone else?
to say that the thought hadn't crossed her mind at least once throughout the duration of their engagement would be a lie. yes, an engagement based on mutual feelings had always been the most ideal situation, but she'd never once felt as though he was the problem. dasom cares deeply for daewon, despite her reputation. “i think it would have been nice to us to have both found true love matches.” even more so for him not having to deal with such a pesky thorn at his side.

if you weren’t currently engaged, of all the eligible bachelors in beonhwa (on the masterlist) who checks the most boxes for your ideal type?
the answer comes to her mind almost immediately despite her hesitation to respond. even as she timidly prepares herself to utter his name, dasom finds herself confused at her own thoughts on the matter. "i think that he's the kindest person i've ever known, and i've always felt safe with him around. i truly don't believe that he could ever hurt me. anyone in beonhwa would be lucky to have yi yujin as their partner." growing up, the lines between friendship and something more had always seemed a bit blurry for dasom. but at some point, she'd managed to convince herself that it was simply childhood friends becoming comfortable with one another.

SILENT NIGHT ft. im daewon ( @daewonbh ) location: mugunghwa gallery, post conversation with siu potential triggers: public intoxication
it’s not that she had any intention on getting even the slightest bit intoxicated— dasom almost never took in any alcohol beverages at official events, with the exception of an occasional glass of champagne offered by friends of her parents. otherwise, she made sure to be on her best behavior. it was even rarer that she stray away from her family or fiancé’s side, but the crocus season had caused the red head to feel overwhelmed with a flurry of emotions. she desperately felt the need to get away from the crowd and give her picture-perfect act a break, even for just a moment.
though her vision was blurry, dasom would recognize his face from any distance. even when she tried to give him space away from her, she’d somehow always found a way to intrude it once more. against her better judgment, dasom’s dainty feel continued to stumble their way closer to her betrothed, who appeared too enthralled by the painting before him to notice her presence. ‘perhaps that’s for the best.’ she thought to herself, resigning to the distance between them before catching a closer glance at his expression.
“im daewon…are you crying?”

what would you say are the worst points of each of the houses?
mugunghwa: we put more importance on our image than our relationships with one another. magnolia: i’m making my own assumption from an outside perspective, but now that i’m older, i feel like the “ranks” within the family that determine their succession might be quite hurtful and cause strife between the siblings. gladiolus: i fail to see the “worst” in this house. i admire all the work they put into continuing to ensure that beonhwa remains a safe place to live.

what’s the most embarrassing story from your childhood?
"probably one of my first carriage rides. it was exciting at first— i simply could not sit still! however, i learned quickly how long the travel would be and how difficult it can be to sit through the bumpy roads. needless to say, i was quite motion sick, and my exit was far from graceful."
