While its eyes are not as big as its mummy's, this baby tawny frogmouth is still using its beady peepers to see the best it can
It can groove and boogie so young. What a delightful creature.
Local Trash Goblin's Reading Corner: Non-fiction Edition
Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain: Bitcoin, Blockchain, Ethereum, and Smart Contacts by David Gerard
Thanks to Folding Ideas' video Line Goes Up being a piece of comfort media for me and one of the things I most commonly fall asleep to, I find the development and subsequent shitshow of cryptocurrencies and related things to be very interesting. As one of the books quotes in that video, I've been wanting to read it for a while. It certainly wasn't what I would consider an academic book and reads more like a 140-page blog (which did catch me off guard at first), but it was a very interesting read written by someone who knows a lot more about the technological aspects of this topic than I do. While Gerard is obviously familiar with and knowledgeable about the actual technology behind cryptocurrencies, the book is clearly written to help people who aren't understand the issues with them beyond the reflexive "hmm that sounds like a scam." The writing still gets technical at times but it's still largely understandable to someone who has limited knowledge in the field, which I appreciated. And while Gerard's overt disdain for Bitcoin and Blockchain (or at least the way he expresses it) does keep the book from feeling more "professional," this felt like an intentional choice and did get a few laughs out of me.
6/10
If you're interested in understanding the rise of Bitcoin/cryptocurrencies, their cultural legacies, and why they're a scam but don't have an extensive IT background, this is a good starting place as long as you don't mind what is essentially a very long blog post
apparently the finance team question of the week this week is 'would you rather fight 25 squirrels or 1 kangaroo' and im like well do i get to specify which kangaroo
i shall fight this one.
tho i suppose the issue with fighting the musky rat-kangaroo is the emotional cost... yes this thing only weighs 500 grams and i could probably kick the shit out of it... but the remorse... the remorse :(
i would like to add to this that our manager responded that he would take the squirrels because he's 'done it before' and when pressed said they 'hunt in packs like velociraptors'.

I'm still thinking about the guy who saw me realize my wheelchair wouldn't fit in the elevator because he (also a wheelchair user) was already inside it and immediately quipped, "This elevator ain't accessible enough for the both of us."
my friend keeps sending the groupchat voice notes of her eating bussy and calling it "asmr"..... bro go study for your physics exam 😭

Why's this dude built like crash bandicoot
Everything about this damn post is so funny to me. The lighting of the arm from the flash. The posing of the arm like a dramatic death from a novella. The fact the photo somehow got taken still and looks this good. The subreddit name. The fact this guy really is built like crash bandicoot
8 hours of decent sleep will have you thinking things like 'i am a beautiful horse and i will never die'
2 hours of bad sleep will have you thinking things like 'i am a stranded whale and i need to be covered in dynamite in an ill-advised attempt to clear the beach'
