THE FEY COURTS HAVE SHIFTED DOMINANCE
You cannot live alone on the fantasies you feed to your mind, eventually you have to touch your life for real, assess and analyze your habits, understand your character, try not to hate yourself for your character as it was shaped when you were very young by circumstances outside of you, and begin learning how to cope with your character, how to build habits that work for you, finish small projects, finish big projects, expose yourself to more uncomfortable situations, assess why you want to leave that friendship before you leave it, raise your anxiety levels on purpose, so that you can grow, raise your work load on purpose, so that you can grow, so that you can build resilience, so that your life expands, and can be experienced by you in full and in reality
love when an absolute nightmare of a character is introduced and all you can think is "jesus christ buddy what the hell is your problem" and the narrative gives you a hot minute to stew before explaining Exactly what is Their Problem. and you just sorta sit back in your metaphorical rocking chair and think "huh. yeah okay fair. that would do this to a person, yes."
it hurts because i am trying my hardest but i am still not good enough

“Just because you’re used to it, doesn’t mean it’s okay”
— Unknown
Mikey: You’ve served 20 years for man’s laughter. Must’ve been quite the joke.
Shredder: You mean “manslaughter”?
Y'know…what if the Joker doesn't exist. Like, maybe there was a clown villain early in Batman's career that left an impression on him. But then he died falling off a building. But Batman still sees him. That's why so many of Gotham's gangs and villains seem so outlandish, because any psycho of the week that isn't just gets filed under the same face, just 'clowns' who've let go of all reason. That's how he keeps 'escaping' from Arkham, why he never gets the death penalty. Because he doesn't exist. 'Joker' is dozens or hundreds of people that Batman treats like one guy. Sure, the Joker Venom laughing gas probably exists, given the name it might be a variant of regular Venom someone mixed into a gas, which is why it distorts the face and muscles so much. But anyone who uses it is just 'The Joker' to Batman, and if some who clearly isn't Joker uses it, like Bane, then it becomes a case of 'Joker is working with Bane'. How long did it take Gordon and the Robins to realize that Batman calling random criminals, especially the giggly ones, 'Joker' wasn't just a personal affectation? Do they even know? The criminals know, they have a vague outline of the phantom the Bat is chasing. They clown makeup practically makes their goons anonymous, but that laughing sets the Bat off something fierce, and is a quick way to escalate to getting ALL of your bones broken instead of just a few. What the Joker really is is an idea Batman made up, of this performative villain that knows all of his weaknesses, who sees through his disguises, is obsessed with him, and with pushing him over the edge and into breaking a code most of Gotham doesn't even realize he has. The Clown Prince of Crime is the Dark Knight projecting all his fears into one image and spitting them back at him. Everyone who gets a dose of Scarecrow's Fear Toxin is left with some permanent scar, and the Batman's is The Joker.

Suffering is temporary. DANCE IS FUN!
quite fun to imagine fairy circles less as "trickster gods kidnapping humans from the human realm" and more as "fae scientists capture-tag-and-releasing humans back into the wild, hoping to one day understand the behavior of this bizarre feral gremlin species that keeps getting lost and wandering into the Fae's backyard"
#not unanalogous to raccoons stumbling into human areas and discovering the Trash Cans
"smart appliances" fuck u i want them dumb as a brick and incidentally as sturdy and enduring
"it has an LCD and an app!" that will be so fun in 7 years when everything still works except the dead screen and the abandoned software.
"so many extra features" so that's why it costs 3x more and has 1/5th the lifespan of the old model.
"4 year extended warranty" buddy where I'm from the dishwasher is a family heirloom and the washing machine helped raise us
#that washing machine was more emotionally present in my childhood than my actual parents
my wall tags got greenlit by the studio audience:
#planned obsolescence is spreading like chlamydia in a nursing home into every part of our lives and you should be PISSED. anyway. buying things secondhand when you can (appliances but also clothes & furniture) is a great way to weed out what has staying power, and what was designed to break. plus it's great for your budget! please check out your local thrift store for blenders food processors mixers etc if it's old ugly clunky but it works? then it is probably a TANK that will keep on chugging til kingdom come.
kitchen appliances especially get donated bc people die/move and no one wants them because they are old/bulky, and they have low resale value bc advertising culture trains us to only want the new shiny stainless steel version. but if a blender has been alive and kicking since the 80s? baby i don't care about the aesthetic that is Grade A Family Heirloom material.
trawl facebook marketplace/whatever for washers/dryers/ovens that work but people want to get rid in favor of the new and shiny. get comfortable with having things be a little scruffy and dated but functional and useful. your life will be so much easier and cheaper. also learning basic mending and furniture repair skills will save you a ton of money. never underestimate the power of a coat of spray paint or decorative contact paper. and it will allow you to personalize things in a fun and colorful way if you so choose! it doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to make your life easier and bring you a bit of joy in the process.
tell corporations to go fuck themselves! learn diy. reject this crazy ideal that everything has to be replaced just bc it's a little dented and showing its age. that's wabi sabi baby!!!!!!!
ok but have you ever seen a parked blimp?
why is this so goddamn funny
they are absolutely not supposed to do this btw, this happened because of unexpected wind conditions. blimps are intended to be docked horizontally. It’s still quite a sight to see.
the metal tower is called a mooring mass. the tallest mooring mast ever designed was the Empire State Building spire, which was originally built to allow airships to dock.
(this was mostly a publicity stun that never actually, ahem, got off the ground)
All I can see is the angle-parked blimps as sharks being held still for being rambunctious to be studied closely
The Mutant Chef
A rich man lived in a manor at the gate of a vast city. He owned and provided the city with much, if not all of its food, and all such produce would pass through his halls, the best of which would be carefully selected and prepared by the rich man’s personal staff of chefs to be prepared for his each and every meal.
Each year the rich man would hold a feast, for which his chefs would prepare a great bounty, for guests would arrive not only of nobility, but any common citizen whom could spare the day from their labors were invited to taste of the chef’s skills. And each year, hundreds would come for miles to present meals they had prepared to the rich man, hoping to earn his approval and join his staff of chefs.
One year, a misshapen child approached the rich man. A hunched and deformed mutant whom the rest of the citizens shunned for its ugliness. The child was simple and uneducated, and knew not why so many would give their own food to the rich man, but approached and did so itself in imitation. And though repulsed himself by the child’s appearance, the rich man held to his manners and are the food that the child presented him, and was immediately taken by its taste.
“Such flavour! Such texture!” The rich man cried with joy. He took the child and welcomed it into his staff, despite the protests of his guests.
“Wait and taste.” The rich man coo’d, “Wait until you have tasted the craft of this child for yourselves, then you may judge them.”
The rest of the rich man’s staff raised quieter and more pointed concerns, for they knew the rich man well, and knew that for each new experience that wowed him, he became harder and harder to impress. The chefs themselves had been whittled down to an elite few over the years, as the rich man’s standards for his own meals had steadily grown beyond the skills of the lesser of them, and those whom fell beneath were cast out in exile from the manor with nary a thought from the rich man to their absence or what would become of them.
For the truth of the matter: for all it’s deformities, and for all the simplicity of its mind, the child was blessed to never forget anything it witnessed and held a great talent for learning.
And so it was that time would pass, and the child’s skill would grow yet further, so surrounded as it was by the ways and secrets of the best of its art; wowing the master further with each new meal.
And so it was that more chefs were sent away from the master’s halls, and the staff began to murmur amongst themselves about the child; how it seemed to produce wonderous food by clumsily mixing disparate ingredients together seemingly at random. Few amongst them dared show it how to properly mix and bake, or what tools were best for which task, as they did each other when a new member joined their ranks, for any who did was swiftly expelled by the rich man once the child surpassed them.
One chef even went so far as to resign and storm out in anger, calling the child an insult to the concept of skill, earned over time and experience, and a thief whom would copy the works of the rest of the chefs without permission or consent.
At the next year’s feast, all guests were delighted by the quality of the food, with some even daring to approaching the child and ask for a recipe on this or that. And the child, delighted simply to be spoken to, shared what it had with them. For for all its misshapen appearance and the simplicity of its mind, the child never forgot, and could recount each and every thing it had done or been shown for all of its entire life.
And so, another year passed, and the number who labored within the rich man’s kitchens dwindled, and failed to rise any more. For none who attended the feast could excite the rich man like the child did each day. Though the rich man’s riches grew further, his remaining staff protested at how their numbers had fallen too far to attend their daily tasks as they once did. But their protests would fall on deaf ears, for the rich man cared not for the quality of his servant’s lives, only for the wealth he gathered and the food that graced his table each night.
And so it was that the rich man’s staff would be whittled away to nothing, as more and more would fall beneath the rich man’s ever rising standards, until but two remained: The mutant child, savant as it was, and an old cook, whose skills would be legend anywhere else.
When the old cook would come to leave the manor, it was not from being dismissed, as so many others had, but by choice. Upon their departure the old cook would warn the child that the rich man had proven that he did not truly value either of them, and cared only for what he could take from them.
The child, simple as it was, did not understand. And as the day of the yearly feast grew near, it found that its assigned labors had grown massively, expected to do the work of dozens all on its own. And to its credit, it managed to. Cooking and preparing day and night for a week, scarcely sleeping, or having a bite for its own. And at labor’s end, the child collapsed and slept through the entire feast, hearing not a single word of thanks or gratitude.
And so, another year would pass, the child laboring unrewarded under the yolk of all it was asked to do. All thanks and complement had vanished from its life, as the cleaners and guards avoided it, and the rich man only ever smiled at his food. Even the old cook’s kindness and the grudging respect of the chefs that once were his colleagues was gone. And all that was left was work, and ever more requests the child had never been taught how to refuse.
And when the day of the feast drew near again and the rich man ordered preparations to begin one more, though the terms were more generous, allowing an extra week of time and dividing the event into two feasts on two separate days; One for the nobility first, and a second open to the public on the usual day a week after. Something within the child snapped under the strain.
The child watched as the rich man and his noble guests slumped over and fell from their seats, poison blackening their veins, and set to work. And when the common citizenry entered the manor a week later, they fled from the scene in horror. For the child, simple as it was, kept to the ways it knew and put all the meat to use. The rich man’s body taking centrepiece amongst the feast in a grand roast, doomed to lie untouched, despite its succulent flavours.
The area around the manor would soon be abandoned, the regular deliveries of produce moved to enter another gate, for none among the convoy could stomach the charnel smell. And the rich man was cursed as an arrogant fool who raised his own demise, all previous generosity forgotten in the wake of this final mistake.
And a story began to circulate around that old, decrepit manor. That if you were to enter within, and speak sweet words to the kitchen door, the creature within would serve you the finest of meals.
The moral of this story is thus: No matter who they are, or how simple they seem, treat helpers and children well and with kindness, and show care for the aid that you have. For little can be learned without example, and it is far easier to learn of spite and contempt than of love.

skeleton armies of the undead are only Like That because they've been rudely awoken from slumber and forced to complete random tasks they have no personal interest in. like you've never awoken in your comfy cozy grave/bed in a vicious bloodthirst over being forced to go to work. hypocrite
[*Aliens meet humans*]
Alien: “Human, why have you not developed a unified language during your species’ rise to civilization?”
Me: “Oh, that’d be the babel curse.”
Alien: “The what now?”
Me: “The babel curse. A really long time ago we had a fully unified language and stuff and started work on a great wonder we called ‘The Tower of Babel’”
Alien: “Ah, an early example of a great work. Yes, all functioning galactic civilizations made one or two of those at some point during their history. What did it do?”
Me: “It was supposed to break through the barriers between dimensions and allow us access to new realities.”
Alien: “This is wonderful news! Although I’m not certain how it relates back to your bizarre mis-mash of languages. Please, tell me how many worlds your species has explored with this technology.”
Me: “Well technically…zero. We kind of hit a snag- or ah, a problem with our choice of first destination. Hence the whole, ‘curse’ thing.”
Alien: “A tragedy. Where did you attempt to go?”
Me: “Heaven.”
Alien: “…What?”
Me: “We tried to-”
Alien: “I heard you.”
Me: “…”
Alien: “You are telling me your species successfully made the first ever interdimensional transportation device, and you used it to break into The Maker’s house?!”
Me: “Tried to. Emphasis on tried.”
Alien: “So this ‘curse’…”
Me: “All language on earth completely reinvents itself to be completely unrecognizable over the course of four hundred years.”
Alien: “Well that doesn’t sound so-”
Me: “There’s also a plague that pops up every century or so that causes mass death due to misinformation around how it works and/or its very existence. And the planet we live on is slowly falling apart due to overharvesting of its natural resources and an overabundance of mismanaged waste and we as a species are chronically incapable of caring about that fact for long enough period at any given time to put any serious effort into doing anything about it.”
Alien: “…”
Me: “This blue marble is hecken cursed. =)”
