A while back we had the wonderful opportunity to pitch a Red Dwarf adventure game directly to Doug Naylor himself. While the project didn't end up going ahead, we're now free to share some of the work we produced for the pitch!

One day when I pull my finger out, I have a basic idea for what was going to be a Red Dwarf Fallout 4 mod/total conversion but might actually be better in Starfield. Red Dwarf lends itself so well to letting us play as an "alternate dimension" version of Dave Lister. I'd always thought Fallout already had an essentially ready-made Red Dwarf aesthetic especially in the vault design, from what I've seen Starfield also has decent industrial-looking ship assets.

The idea is you'd play a character called "Last Human", with character creation happening after you return to Red Dwarf from the holiday you went on to get over getting dumped by Kochanski. I even had silly little ideas, like your difficulty choice being part of the character creation process, and choosing "Very Easy" puts the hologram H on your character and means you can't die. You'd also have options like Felis Sapiens; the canon doesn't really matter, as episodes like Skipper essentially proved any/every combination of events is possible.

A global Tumblr PSA worth knowing.

Apparently there's a supposed bug doing the rounds that can get people banned. One user investigated the issue in-depth and, so far, the source of it seems uncertain. Yes you'll want to check out that link, in case it happens to you.

The bottom line is: if you get an email from Tumblr regarding a report you made that you know you didn't, 1. check in with Tumblr support to let them know you didn't file the report, 2. reach out to @3liza with all information you have so the current masterpost can be updated.

Whether bug or real malicious act, knowing is half the battle already. Here's to hoping this issue gets solved quickly.

(for the record I've gotten no such emails personally, but will keep my eyes open, just in case)

I think everyone is morally justified in running an adblocker until, at a minimum, ad companies can guarantee their ads are free of malware. At present, as far as I'm concerned, ads are an active security risk and I support my favourite creators through different means.

I'm now at Series X of Red Dwarf. I stand by my belief that modern dwarf has about as many decent episodes per series as any other series of Red Dwarf. Just watched Lemons, and I forgot how funny the episode was. I'm sure when I first saw it I thought it was a bit cheesy doing the "back in time to Jesus" trope, but watching the entire lot in one go I'm impressed how much like series 3-4 it feels like.

The only change is the Reddit option is increasingly looking more like it might have the answer from the Google preview, only to click it and the actual answer message in the thread says "This message has been auto-deleted because of Reddit's policies, for a better alternative use Lemmy"... It's having the effect of ignoring all Reddit results without actually moving to Lemmy, because it doesn't have any of the communities that would have the answer, so everyone loses.

I'm not sure how I feel about this... I THINK it makes up for using a streak freeze last month, when I'd kept a perfect streak from 1st January... Where I honestly nearly rage quit Duolingo and uninstalled it... It's kinda turning those streaks into more general evidence of consistent usage... It's making the app easier to come back to, for sure, but it's making those streaks feel less valuable... Also it was annoying the 3 sessions it "forced" me into doing the chess because it's what I last had it on (so I could open the chests), when I would have preferred to have done Dutch lessons...

Acceptable Ads... I've always been fiercely supportive of Eyeo's Acceptable Ads programme, despite some claiming they're essentially taking bribes to let ads through. It's not a perfect system, but it's the easiest "mainstream" solution supported by every browser (via Adblock Plus).

I run an adblocker, but I also DON'T MIND small ads. But from about 20 years ago, the web became essentially unusable because of the amount of ads. There's also a system security element which I believe makes any adblocker 100% acceptable; the amount of ads pointing you to install malware entirely removes any argument that adblockers are wrong or immoral, especially when setting up systems for vulnerable family members.

I always thought I was being a "Power-User" by combining uBlock Origin (a more efficient adblocker) with the acceptable ads filterlist (which is published by Eyeo and freely available on the filterlists websites), despite uBlock's explicit stance of NOT including any "acceptable ads" programme.

However, after really thinking about it and researching it... It turns out that doing so would give me the worst of all worlds (I'd see ads, but publishers and advertisers would just see a useless broken impression. There are also, currently, no DNS adblockers that explicitly allow all domains supported by or needed for Acceptable Ads to run properly.

I've decided to start a project to act as a two-prong approach... One which is a personal ad blocking DNS server that explicitly whitelists Acceptable Ads, whilst still using the official Adblock Plus extension (which seems sadly to be the only extension that supports the programme). This would mean my entire network is protected from the very worst ad networks (those which absolutely do not support any aspect of the Acceptable Ads programme), whilst leaving higher-level ad blocking to the extensions.

I'll update here if I get anywhere with it.

I'm here watching the hated Red Dwarf: Remastered first three series... And I don't see what all the fuss was about. The only bit that's a bit crap are the scutters in the first episode... But I think I prefer the colour grading, especially for the first 2 series.
