She noticed that even behind that smile, it was hard for a guy like Darc. But she kept a totally positive image for him. He can do it, heāll ask for help if we he wants. She mirrored his smile before stepping inside the counter.Ā āOne Arya OāBrien Cappuccino specialty, coming right up!ā She laughed before preparing the drink.Ā
He could she that he wasnāt convinced but he didnāt want to worry about her anymore, and somewhere in the back of his mind a voice was laughing at him. Grinning back at her as she moved behind the counter, he pulled up a stool as he watched her get to work with a smile. āHow is work here going for you?ā he asked with a small smile, putting his own problems aside for the time being.
āHuh. Welp, you gotta keep your mind off those duties once in a whileā She nodded, pushing the door open and walking out the hospital building. It wouldnāt take long for the two to arrive in Aryaās working place. This is also the reason why sheās always around in the hospital to meet up with Darcourt.Ā āIf I was in your shoes, iād still live a normal life. Like I do right now! Iām an unstable lone wolf who still manages a positive lifeā she perked a smile, gazing at him.Ā
āI try but itās pretty hard to do when thereās a voice in your head constantly reminding you about it,ā he laughed nervously, taking a deep breath of the fresh air as they stepped out. From the hospital to the coffee shop there wasnāt much of a distance that they had to cover before they got there, smiling at her optimism.Ā āI am trying, I promise. Its just hard to get used to it, its a lot of pressure.ā

Matteo rolled his eyes, he had forgotten the hoodou worked at the hospital.Ā āOf course you do. Fucking hospital. Itās none of your concern what Iām doing.ā
āWow, you really donāt like hospitals,ā he scoffed with a shrug before looking at vampire with a raised brow. āErm, well whatever youāre doing. The police patrol just stopped in the hospital to gte some coffee. It should be a while before theyāre out again.ā
guerreroxmatteo:
āI wouldnāt be so sure, youāre not the only person to ever have voices in their heads. Or nightmares.ā Matteo was getting slightly irritated by the hoodouās attitude, he was not the first person to have problems. Perhaps Matteo was too easily frustrated but it didnāt change his stance.Ā āI hate hospitals, I donāt know how you stand it.ā
āI know but ⦠itās more than just a voice, its having a complete other entity constantly in your head telling you what to do and when he isnāt doing that heās amusing himself with your life,ā Darcourt said with a grimace. He understood that everyone had nightmares and problems, voices in their heads but his voice had power and there was nothing that he could do. āI donāt mind hospitals, helping people ⦠helps, I guess? Itās good to know that I can help and support those in need. Why donāt you like them?ā

aoifeohara:
Aoife grimaced slightly at the thought of the hospital coffee and itās possible aftertaste, she didnāt remember it being too bad when she tried it but that was a while ago and she trusted Darcourt to remember its flavour more accurately.Ā āNo problem.ā She smiled before addingĀ āSure, whatever works for you. I think I have a spare bit of paper actually if you want?ā
With that off his chest it felt like a weight lifted, one thing less that he had to worry about and think on even if he was putting the load on Aiofe. āYeah, that would probably be easier and thanks again, youād be doing me a huge favour. I would know where to even start looking for some of these things,ā he said with a smile.Ā
Wondering the streets purposely after the curfew Matteo finally felt some what normal. He had cohered to the time restraint at first but shortly felt almost claustrophobic stuck in his apartment; walking out in the open in the dark felt like a fresh breath of air. Walking around the corner he found was surprised to see someone else out and about, luckily not a cop. āWhat are you doing out here?ā
It was definitely past curfew and although it was . āI work at the hospital, remember? I get a free pass and isnāt there supposed to be a curfew and arenāt you not meant to be out?ā Darcourt said with a frown, gesturing to his key card.Ā āSeriously? What are you doing out here?ā
guerreroxmatteo:
āItās a unique enough death, and hardly the worst I think of but I donāt doubt it drives you crazy from time to time. Especially whilst working in the hospital.ā
āYouād be surprised how bad it can be and its not from time to time, itās all the time,ā he clarified with a roll of his eyes.Ā āFunnily enough, working in the hospital is the least worse part of my day.ā
⤠Darcourt Astier is 26 years old and allied with the Hoodou. They can often be found quietly working his shift in the hospital and can be compared to Eka Darville. They are TAKEN.

Darcourt was always a kind and caring person, so much so that people who knew him called him a hippie because of his outlook on life. He always wanted to give back to others no matter what and is the Hoodou community he is seen as the friendliest and the most approachable. His family held traditional roots in Salem but hadnāt lived there in years, in fact originally Darcourtās stay was only meant to be a stop on the way on his road trip around the country. However, it seemed that fate or rather Papa Legba had other plans for him, something that he had never expected to happen.
After joining in one of the Salem Hoodouās rituals, he was chosen by Papa Legba to be the new Hoodou Priest of Salem and there was no running away from that sort of calling. There was no warning or no sign that it was going to happen, after all, although he grew up Hoodou, in the last couple of years he had limited his practice to rituals that had minimal to no collateral damage. He couldnāt explain how he knew it but it was as if he could feel Papa Legba living somewhere in the back of his mind, his presence lurking behind every thought. It wasnāt something that he wanted to be or hoped that heād be, but it wasnāt a position he that could ignore. So, his road trip came to a halt at its new final destination, Salem.
Being a stranger to the town and having the position that he had gained him one enemy in town, Sebastian Rivera. The former Hoodou priest had made it very clear that he wasnāt happy with his change in position within their small community. Nor was Sebastian shy to voice how Darcourt was a perfect stranger to Salem and he couldnāt understand why he had been a suitable replacement, so when his childhood friend Marcus from New Orleans came to town, he finally has someone to back him up. A familiar face to help him get through the challenges of Salem and being a priest.
Now, he works as an orderly in Salem General Hospital, helping others as much as he can while balancing his duties as the Hoodou Priest. Caught between a normal life, juggling the hierarchy of power within the Hoodou and having a deity playing with his head is slowly taking its toll on him.
P E R S O N A L I T Y
Darcourt by nature is a caregiver, he doesnāt like to make deals or offer a deal that he knows could end disastrously, administering healing poultices to those in the hospital that he knew he could help. He is also one of the friendliest Hoodou in town, one who doesnāt tend to close himself off to the other species in town. Darcourt is also someone who gets stressed very easily, especially now that he has to deal with an ever-growing mountain of responsibilities.

āMust be a lot of work youāre settling. You even have medical duties!ā She lets out a sigh, running a hand through her hair. āB-but youāre not the only priest here, right? I mean thereās a lot of them around you, itās not like youāre the only one handling those rituals aloneā
āI am the only priest in Salem, each community only has one priest and Iām the one for the Salem Hoodou,ā he said with a small shrug. Ever since heād become priest he slowly was starting to accept that this was his life now.Ā āAnd I donāt handle them alone, I just lead them and taking a controlling role when things get too far out of hand.ā

aoifeohara:
āI tried the hospital coffee, it was actually better than I expected but I like to think mine is better.ā Aoife smiled back at the hoodou before adding more seriouslyĀ āBut for you definitely on the house, you deserve it. Yeah I got quite a few at the moment what do you need?ā
āBelieve me probably is ninety-nine per cent true, after a while the hospital coffee gets a really weird after taste,ā he said thinking back to the last cup of coffee heād had. He could still faintly tatse the bitterness which was beyond unpleasant. āThanks, that nice of you. Iāll need a moment to remember or Iāll write you a list, some of the herbs are on the rarer side.ā
guerreroxmatteo:
āI was under the impression that making peopleās lives hell was Papa Legbaās MO. Still it might getter over time, he must like you.āĀ
āYeah, well youād think that heād give me a bit of a break. Having to hear him in my head all the time is torture enough. Iām probably going to die by way spiritual entity talking me into it,ā he laughed, maybe that was a little morbid but it was the truth or a probable truth.
āIt sounds like heās using you as his slave then. Is that it? Whatās your major role or uhh. . what do you usually do as a Hoodou priest?ā She tilted her head but she still hopes it doesnāt bother him about her asking too much information. At least she knows something and sheād still be willing to help out even if itās a life or death thing.
āNot really, I can do whatever I want like normal itās just when it comes to Hoodou things Iām his mouthpiece, if he has something to say I say it. It just happens that he likes to talk a lot,ā Darcourt said with a wince, laughing by the end as he ignored what felt like Papa Legba glaring at him.Ā āI lead certain rituals make sure everything is going just the way he wants it too. So I guess itās more like having your boss in your head, all the time.ā
Itās the first time Arya felt present-minded in this situation. She never tries nor even tries to LISTEN to anything that others are saying despite the hesitant uncertainty thatās ringing in her ears. If youāre lucky enough, Arya would do a lot for a significant one. Especially that sheās already trying to calculate through the complicated (at least not mathematical) problem.Ā āWell what are the things that you AT LEAST tried with that. . Papa Legba? Is that it?ā She turned, facing Darcourt again with a steady, eager-to-know look.Ā
āI forget that you donāt know anything, sorry This information is usually passed on generation to generation,ā he said with a soft smile, āIāll try to simply it.ā Trying to explain this without sounding crazy after all the Hoodou was just hard to explain, it was something that people made assumptions about what it is that they were. āPapa Legba is sort of a deity, like a spirit type figure who we channel whenever we practice. And every community has a leader who is the queen or king and then thereās a priest who Papa Legba picks and uses as a host to make sure the community isnāt crossing him. Iām the Hoodou priest of Salem.ā
aoifeohara:
āIād like to say I know what that feels like but Iām pretty sure my brain is trying to catch up half the timeā She joked hoping to make the man laugh even if it was at her expense.Ā āThatās good, the Apothecary is good. Canāt complain about business but likewise it keeps me busy so Iām happy.ā
Laughing a little, he stuffed his hands in his pockets before nodding in agreement. He missed that feeling of being able to lose himself in his own thoughts instead of being stuck in someone else.Ā āThatās good, I promise to stop by more often - your coffee has to be better than the one from the hospital vending machine,ā he told her with a smile,Ā āOh, I have a list of herbs that I need, do you think youāll have them?ā

It felt like a pile of documents organized on a table. Even though Arya went through those ādocumentsā, apparently she didnāt understand much of what the Hoodou priest is saying. She felt bad and stupid of even trying to understand him. She hates not knowing much of stuff, especially when it comes to this kind.Ā āI canāt say to fight back because it sounds more of breaking something between your position as a Hoodou. How about make things clear with the voices, then?āĀ
It was complicated, he appreciated that she was trying to understand what he was saying and in truth it was a topic that no one knew much about. The general rules were donāt cross him, never promise a deal you cannot go through and his judgement is final. āI canāt fight it, even if I wanted to Arya, it doesnāt work that way for me,ā he explained with a small shrug,Ā āIt only stops when Papa Legba has had enough and thereās only so much that he actually pays attention when it comes to what I want.ā
Ā Thinking of those voices he mentioned, she can only connect it to how temptations speak into her ears whenever she gets a meltdown. Those sick, monstrous voices that wanted to take over upright Arya. She gives up easily when she tries to control them and instead let the voices control her. Itāll pass yet itāll change a lot around her perspective. What does she fear exactly? People thinking sheās a killing machine or going crazy and waking up naively?Ā āEverything is complicated and disturbingā she said, shifting her eyes through the hall of busy doctors and nurses. āBut have you tried at least communicating with the voices?ā She asked, raising an eyebrow at him
It was hard to explain to someone who didnāt belong to the Hoodou what it was like, the voices werenāt internal doubts or anything of the sort. It was almost quite literally having to share your mental space with another beings. The amount of times heād gone to work his shift with only four hours of sleep because Papa Legba decided to impart a ominous and cryptic piece of information at three in the morning was starting to get on his collective nerves. āOh believe me, Arya, the voices like to talk a lot. The problem isnāt communication in my case, itās getting them to give me a momentās peace of mind or getting them to be clear about what they want.ā
