“finally.” he said after finishing up the report his father instructed him to do. aside from being a doctor at st. augustine hospital, he’d been ask to do some corporate work for their company given his masters in business. if it wasn’t the patriarch who asked him, he would have said no. no one can turn down his request after all. while closing his laptop, a familiar voice was heard, his gaze shifted to the blonde girl before him who was asking for his order. to his surprise, it was his ex-girlfriend. it was short but a wonderful relationship until they realized they were just better off as friends. no hatred between them. “hey,” he smiled softly, rising up from his seat to give her a peck on the cheeks. “didn’t know you’re working here but yeah, i’m alright. just finished some work for dad.” daniel couldn’t help but wrapped his arms around her because he did really miss the female, it been so long since they last saw each other. “just a double shot on ice, do you have time? we need to catch up.”

daphne chuckled softly and nodded as he stood up and gave her a peck on the cheeks. the smile on the girl’s lips widened as he said he was good and how he was just finishing some work for his dad. “ yeah? you always were a hard-working guy, daniel, ” daphne spoke and she giggled softly as he wrapped his arms around her. wrapping her own, the smile on the femme’s lips widened as she wrapped her own around his waist, squeezing it gently. it had been way too long since she had seen him last. “ double shot on ice, gotcha. i’ll go and get you that. i should have remembered, ” she said and laughed softly as she pulled back. “ and i’m sure i can sneak away for a bit. i’ll just tell them i’ll take my break now, ” she said as she took a step back. “ i’ll be right back, okay? you sit down and relax. ”

“ nothing to report , “ he repeated a little sterner this time , noting his friend’s near disbelief of his words – things didn’t need to be ruined with his own doomed romance , this was a positive moment filled with positive thoughts ( at least that was what he had to keep telling himself to get through the darkness in the deepest recesses of his memory ) . mason still smelled her perfume , saw her face in every feature of passing strangers .. with every buzz of his phone he expected to see her name flash up or to hear her personalised ringtone , but nothing . abandoned . heartache made him feel sick but he kept a gentle smile over features regardless , keeping up his rather perfected facade that everything was okay . it had to be , or he’d never make it to see another day.

his brows lifted at her words , moving bodies together a little closer so their hips bumped together with every step . anyone passing would’ve assumed they were a couple but it was just something him and daphne did – they’d share girly sleepovers and watch chick-flicks , all with innocent intent . “ that’s awesome . what you gotta do to prepare ?? “ even if he was clueless about everything to do with dancing he was quick to show interest , “ you’re not doin’ all that. eating boiled chicken and broccoli kinda shit , right ?? that would kill me . i mean , i’d refuse to eat the chicken for a start .. so i’d be living off broccoli for the rest of my life . eesh , “

Rosalie gathered her thick red hair off the nape of her neck, blowing out her breath, more to milk the moment than anything else. “I’m pretty confident a TA has to, like, go to the school they’re teaching at? But whatever, I got some extra cash for Christmas presents, at least for my parents.” She nodded, sweeping her hair back from her face. “Sure, as long as we get some brownies or something, too. I’m starved.”

daphne had always been so incredibly jealous of rosalie’s hair – it was truly beautiful. and she loved the color too. she wished she was able to rock that color. laughing softly, the girl shrugged both of her shoulders casually. “ hey, there’s an upside to all of it, right? like you said, at least you got some extra cash for presents. ” daphne’s smile widened quickly and she clapped her hands together excitedly. “ great! awesome, yeah no, i’m starving too, so i’m all here for brownies. and if they have chocolate cake too, that’s even better. ”   

Lukas smiled brightly as she seemed to recognize him. “Yeah, me too,” he said easily. He was glad that he’d decided to say hi – he always liked making new friends, and Daphne seemed very nice so far, so he was glad that he’d struck up a conversation. “Oh, I’d love to!” he said, with another bright smile. He started walking with her. “Do you have any plans for Christmas?” he asked, his expression brightening further. He loved Christmas.

“ awesome, ” daphne said and giggled softly when lukas said that he would love to come along and share a coffee with her. when he started walking along with her, she turned her head around and looked at him, shrugging her shoulders casually when he asked if she had any plans for christmas. “ oh, i don’t know. i’m going to visit my dad, for sure, and uh, i think my brothers are coming home, so probably spending some time with them too. i sadly don’t get to see them as often as i’d like, you know. that’s how it is when we live on different sides of the country, i suppose. ” laughing softly, she bit he bottom lip. “ what about you? do you have anything fun planned for christmas? ”

daphne wasn’t wrong , the boy was like a highlighter pen if you glanced at him out the corner of your eye . there was no mistaking him for anyone else – no matter what color he chosen for his hair ( each one as outlandish as the next ) he could be spotted in a crowded room within seconds . “ what’s that mr bean movie .. the one where he has to stay awake and puts matchsticks between his eyelids to keep them open . is that when he goes to france ?? i’ve lost track , but they’re all cinematic masterpieces !! “ it had been months and yet the pair of them had fallen back into friendship like nothing had ever changed . they walked together , stepping in time , arm-in-arm as he tried to think of a place to start when it came to a life update .

      in all honesty the empire he’d built for himself had crumbled since he went away . his heart had been blessed , then crushed to breaking point by the curse of infidelity that seemed to follow him around like a black cloud . the girl that he’d gushed over and never shut up about had thrown his feelings away like trash at the roadside , but mason was reluctant to dampen their reunion by explaining the ultimate betrayal his now ex-girlfriend had performed. falling uncharacteristically quiet the bright-haired male simply shrugged , nibbling the inside of his lip , “ not too much to report , “

“ that one yeah, or the movie rat race? have you seen it? it’s about a bunch of people who are in a race for money in las vegas, and the dude who plays mr. bean is in it, and he keeps falling asleep everywhere, ” daphne said and laughed softly, shaking her head lightly, which resulted in her blonde hair moving everywhere. mr. bean was ridiculous but at the same time, it had always managed to put a smile on her mouth.

Rosalie came to a stop as the other turned around, breathing hard for a moment. “Jesus, you walk fast,” she said. “What, dd you just jack someone’s coffee in the student union or something?” She pushed her hair back from her face with a sigh. “I was assisting in a culinary arts class. The usual TA was sick or something, I don’t know. I got some extra money, most importantly.”

laughing softly, daphne tilted her head a little to the side and looked at the redhead. ❛ sorry babe, ❜ she said and grinned, keeping her eyes locked with the other who asked if she had just jacked someone’s coffee in the student union. ❛ no, i haven’t, ❜ she said and grinned as she kept her eyes on her friend who pushed her hair away from her face. ❛ ahh, that’s great, ❜ she said and grinned widely, ❛ sucks that the usual TA was sick, but hey, at least you got some extra money out of it, you know? ❜ she said and grinned. ❛ hey rosalie, do... do you wanna go grab a coffee with me? ❜

It was true; it did feel like forever that Cassy had seen Daphne in, though she couldn’t fully recall what she had and hadn’t told her friend since that time. She knew they had texted here and there, about their days and anything important, but the brunette couldn’t remember exactly what that was. “Perfect, I saw– I think I saw a flyer for them in the cafe, but I know they’re on, I just don’t know how.” Giving a careless shrug, Cass took a sip of the hot liquid in her own cup. “I don’t know if there’s anything to catch you up on, I’ve just been working. What about you, anything new?”

When Daphne called her a herione, Cassy chuckled. It wasn’t everyday that she was called such, especially after she ranted about the places she’d been, the things she’d seen when in hindsight, it could have just been a simple sentence. That was what the girl usually had, hindsight. Not that she regret the things she spoke of, they were simply just a little lengthier than what the average person would expect. “It’s okay. I figured after such a long day you might be a little tired, and I Was hoping to catch you, anyway.” She gave her a shrug and a small smile. “That sounds good to me, where do you want to go? –oh do you want to go through the park? I’ve heard they’ve put up some Christmas lights up there that look just incredible in the evening light like tonight, do you wanna go?” She continued, not giving her friend a chance to speak.

Her shift was long over, yet Cassy didn’t want to spend the rest of her day alone in her home. Sure, she had things to do around the house, but she wanted to get out and about. She knew that Daphne was in class; she’d texted her about it earlier in the day. Knowing the time she finished, she’d wandered around the campus a little, finding a coffee shop so the could take it to her once she’d finished class. Though she planned to be waiting outside fot her friend, she’d quickly gotten distracted by the displays of art and the captions that lay beneath. Cassy had looked at her phone to discover she was a couple of minutes late to meet her. So she ran, coffees in hand until she saw her friend from behind. “Daph!” She yelled out, still running until she caught up to her. “Hey.” Cass tried to catch her breath before grinning. “I was.. admiring the art. Well, I actually came because I thought you’d want coffee and I was bored being at home, and then I saw that there were loads of paintings up in the hallways around the cafe so I was looking at those, then realised you’d already gone because I got distracted.” She shrugged, handing her the coffee. “It’s a latte, I hope you like it.”

“Hi!” Lukas smiled at her brightly. “You’re Daphne, right? I think I’ve seen you around campus. I take a dance class – I’m only a senior in high school still, but my teacher recommended me for it. I think it’s called dual enrollment or something.” He smiled at her again after this cascade of bright chatter. “I’m Lukas. I don’t think we’ve really met yet, so I just wanted to say hi.”

the smile on the young girl’s lips widened and she tilted her head a little to the side as she stared at the man, slowly starting to recognize him. daphne had seen him around before and she also thought she knew his name. it was on the tip of his tongue. ❛ oh yeah, ❜ she said and giggled, nodding her head as she then recognized him. ❛ i remember you! i have seen you around before, ❜ she said and laughed softly when he introduced himself. ❛ nice to meet you, Lukas, and yes, i’m daphne, sorry, ❜ she said and blushed softly as she adjusted the strap on her backpack as he said that they hadn’t really met before and how he just wanted to say hi. ❛ that’s real sweet. i’m glad you did. hey, i’m going to get some coffee before i pass out — do you wanna come with? ❜

“Uh, exercising,” Edward said, pausing to catch his breath and putting a hand over his pounding heart. “Which is obviously a mistake, so you don’t have to tell me. Oh god, I’m dying, I think.” He ran almost every day, as he had done for over a year now, but god, it still sucked. Running sucked so much. “I was using the, uh, track up at the college. I have a friend in the English department.”

baby hadn’t been back in atlanta for long. maybe two months or so, so she hadn’t really felt the need to look up old friends while she was here. she hadn’t gotten particularly bored yet. she was waiting for her coffee scrolling on her phone through instagram when she heard someone greet her. baby looked up form her phone and around her double checking the person wasn’t speaking to someone else in close proximity, but it was just baby. her gaze finally landed on the petite blonde.  she sort of looked familiar? baby tilted her head, lifting a perfectly manicured brow. “do i know you, doll?”

“ hey !! “ mason responded , grabbing the strap of her bag to drag daphne back into the gentlest of hugs . college in california had stolen the oldest bennett sibling away for a few years on-and-off now but finally ( through circumstances that were far from ‘ good ‘ ) he was back in atlanta – the place he was born , lived , and was sure to die in . “ i finally graduated so i decided to come back to this shitheap and visit you lot , annoy a few people and try and save some money after spending it all on instant ramen and those weird worms-on-a-string . “ the friend didn’t need to know the real reason that he was nursing a broken heart , the cage of his ribs empty and devoid of all the warmth it had contained before he left . “ what are you doin’ now , huh ?? i heard there are some great vegan cakes down at aroma mocha that i’d literally kill someone for , “

     daphne giggled softly as mason grabbed the strap of her bag to drag her into a hug. she wrapped her arms around his waist and squeezed him gently; mason’s hugs were almost so gentle and sweet. tilting her head back, she looked at mason excitedly as he spoke about how he had graduated and decided to come back to atlanta. ❛ aww! yeah? i’m glad you are back, mase, ❜ she said and giggled softly, tilting her head a little to the side as she took a step back so that there was a little space created between the two of them. ❛ you could never annoy people, ❜ she said and rolled his eyes. ❛ you’re a light in a dark room and not just because of your hair, ❜ daphne said and winked at him teasingly.

Carter smiled and nodded as he grabbed a glass and a bottle of whiskey. “Not having a good time?” Carter asked as he paced some ice in the glass, before he poured the whiskey. Once the glass was half-filled, Carter put the lid back on and slid the drink over to Daphne. “Someone has to work.” Carter said with a shrug as he put the bottle back. “And I need some extra cash.”

❛ it’s not that i’m not having any fun, it’s just... i don’t know, it feels a little uncomfortable,  guess, ❜ she said and shrugged casually, keeping her gaze locked with the bartender who placed some ice in the glass, before pouring the whiskey. smiling at him, she nodded and reached out, grabbing the glass and wrapping her fingers around it. someone has to work. ❛ good point, ❜ she said and grinned, humming softly while tapping her fingers against the glass. and i need some extra cash. ❛ that makes sense. still, are you having fun? ❜

“As much fun as you can have on a date with a guy that you barely know. He seemed nice at first but now he’s getting a bit too handsy. So if anyone ask you didn’t see me,” She joked, taking a sip of her drink. “What about you? You having fun?”

❛ ahh! yikes, i’m sorry to hear that, ❜ daphne said, smiling softly towards the other blonde. what about you? you having fun? ❛ it’s... it’s alright, i mean... uhh, i’m not really a huge fan of parties like this, but yeah, you know, ❜ she said and shrugged casually, before reaching out and grabbing the glass of alcohol that stood in front of her. ❛ but yeah, i’m... having a good time. a lot of people seem to be having fun too, so... that’s the important thing, right? ❜
