The faint chiming of a phone alarm echoed next to the Dragon of Fire. Kimiko rustled under her blanket, the ceiling being the first sight to stare at with weary eyes. Her hand wandered aimlessly for her phone and upon contact, silenced the alarm. She sat up with a soft yawn, stretching her arms up as far as they could reach. As she looked out to the wall of her sleeping quarters, she noticed a small box sitting between the pillars on the floor before her. It was wrapped like a present, but in parcel paper and twine. Kimiko crawled over and scooped up the box, the tag tied to it written:
Happy Valentine’s Day, Kimiko~
Her heart raced and pale cheeks flustered. Without further hesitation, she pulled the twine, undoing the wrap in one light tug. The paper unraveled, floating to the floor and before her eyes were what looked to be sixteen round clustered white chocolate nougats; each one with a little red jelly heart on tip, all neatly placed in rows of four to form the inner shape of the box. Kimiko let out an elated squeak, quickly covering her lips, so as not to awaken the others.
“Did… Wing make these?” she thought, lightly holding up one nougat. She took a gentle nibble, expecting it to have a nutty texture, but was met with a softer one instead, revealing a new half bitten raspberry. Kimiko moaned with delight as the white chocolate and raspberry melted in her mouth, then came a small kick of… fresh ginger?
“Delicious!” she exclaimed in silence. It was a perfect dynamic of sweet and zesty. Truth be told, she couldn’t wait until White day for Wing to get her something, but to make something from scratch? Any girl would be lucky to have a man that could cook!
Filled with a fiery passion and a fully awakened mind, Kimiko just had to thank him for these treats! With silent haste, she crept down the hall to where Wing slept across from Omi’s. She peeked in, only to find it was empty with the bedroll kept neat and untouched. It wasn’t like him to be up this early… If he wasn’t in his room, then maybe the kitchen. That instinct was sure to lead her to him. Looking in, she found Wing on the floor, sitting up against the washing station’s leg in a deep sleep, still wearing a messy apron. A warm smile formed across Kimiko’s face, lost for words that he spent all night making those sweets just for her. This only showed her how much she meant to him back, having no patience to wait for a month.
Kimiko took a spot next to Wing and held his hand. She leaned in, kissing off a white chocolate stain from his cheek.
“Thank you~” she whispered, resting her head on his shoulder. “Your candy is as sweet as your heart…~”
She stayed with him all morning, waiting for her Dragon to awaken.
This lovely moment between Wing and Kimiko is based on a Valentine's Day one-shot story a while back. Not wanting to wait until White Day to give Kimiko a gift, as the custom for Valentine's Day in Japanese tradition, Wing pulls an all-nighter to make her some delicious white chocolate nougats~
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
