So, about my last video...
So, I wanted to address some of the feedback that I’ve gotten on my latest video, the one where I did a gameplay of a really, really bad Pokemon bootleg game called, “Pokemon Adventure” (seriously, it’s really bad). I tried some new things (at least, new for me) in this video, in particular adding some live-action comedy bits in between the gameplay segments in order to break up the monotony.
The feedback has been rather mixed thus far, to say the least.
Some of you seem to love what I did, and want to see more of it in the future. I know that some of you missed seeing me do live-action stuff ever since I did the channel reboot and I switched over to primarily voiceover things with lots of visual editing (with the exception of the “My Pokemon Journey” Tag video), so I figured this would be a good way to implement that stuff again, so I could still do my fandom-related content while also doing some stuff that you guys had missed.
Some of you, though, have mentioned that the segments weren’t up to your taste, and one person in particular pointed out that a couple of them were boring and uncolorful. In hindsight, I can definitely see that – the two that I did in the white shirt, against the white background, in particular were definitely visually uneventful, and I probably should try to make the backgrounds more interesting for these things if I’m gonna do them. In particular, the last live-action segment definitely went too long, in hindsight, and I could’ve redone it and cut it at least in half, if not down to a third, of what it ended up being, but sadly, I have a habit of running a joke into the ground if I think it’s even remotely gonna work, heh.
Speaking of jokes, a couple of you have also pointed out that some of the jokes were awfully similar to those made by JonTron in a video he made about bootleg Pokemon games back in 2014 (if I recall correctly), and generally speaking, the style of the video as a whole was too simlar to stuff done by JonTron, ProJared, PeanutButterGamer, AVGN, etc. It’s definitely true I’ve always liked that style of video and that’s the kind of direction that I’ve been thinking about taking my channel in the long-run, if I could make it work, that is.
Now, while I’ve always been of the belief that nothing is truly “original” on the internet anymore, as every joke has already been joked, and every idea has already been idea’d, I also think one should at least try to spin things on their own way and make it as much their own as possible. I tried to do that with some of the things I pointed out about the awfulness of the game I played and the jokes I made about it, but clearly I didn’t do so enough, and I definitely don’t want to spend the rest of this post making excuses like a big, whiny baby. I just want to go ahead and apologize for it, and give you my word that, should I try something again like I tried in this most recent video, then I’ll definitely tweak some things and try my best to make it my own (though there’ll DEFINITELY be some growing pains in doing so). Again, it’s hard to do that when everything’s essentially already been done, but I really should try to give it as much of my own personal spin as possible.
And lastly, I want to thank you all for your feedback, whether you loved the new video or you thought it was sub-par. You guys honestly deserve nothing short of the best video content I could muster up, and frankly, I just don’t think I did that this time. Again, my apologies if any of you feel like I screwed up, and thank you for keeping me and my ego in check.
