Thank you for the birthday art gift Tat! Blitz doesnât look like the partying type but heâd still be down for a good ole fashion birthday celebration! X3
Prologue 3.1: Where Squids Fear to Swim
Here comes another story after many weeks of thinking my PC had finally run out of steam! Iâm actually surprised it managed to stay stable long enough for me to get this done! (knocking on wood so much from writing this here) But regardless, here is the third segment of the Prologue stories!

Prologue 2.1: Salmon Running and You
Welp hereâs the second prologue story, with guest cameo by @blueplayer2âs OC Akio and featuring @flowingchiakiâs OCs Hazel and Fil(bert), @patar-fuifui / @inkdazzledâs OC Andy, and @theoneguardianâs OC Brayden!Â
(Music linked in the story isnât mine, obviously)
Not gonna lie, Iâve been wanting to work on this prologue story for a while ever since Salmon Run was revealed at last yearâs E3 event with Nintendo and I had so much theory crafting going on. More or less the game mode was everything I expected it to be and more, what with the locations and special Grizz Co. weapons to play around with. But anyway I hope you enjoy âSalmon Running and You!â
(Preview) Prologue 2.1: Salmon Running and You
âMr. Grizz, sir.â
âYes, what is it?â
âIâve reviewed our monthly egg delivery numbers and it seems that weâre receiving a diminishing marginal return as far back as 3 months ago.â
âWhat? Why?â
âWell sir, it seems that the number of freelancing volunteers has been going down ever since we starting distributing rental weapons of... how can I say âa higher level of experience necessaryâ.â
âAnd what is that suppose to mean?â
âIt means that if we continue to lend out weapons that are meant for more experienced users, more recruits will be discouraged and thus be less likely to sign up for Salmon Run shifts.â
âHmmm, I see your point. In that case tell our uh... âspecial business partnerâ to start sending over more simple weapons.â
âWhat kind sir?â
âWhat do you think? Splattershots, Splat Rollers, the works! I canât be losing business because a bunch of kids canât pick up a Splatling or an E-Liter! Just tell him to ship smaller lighter weapons to us!â
âOf course sir.â
âAnd one more thing, assistant.â
âYes sir?â
âI am officially putting you in charge of teaching any new freelancers the ropes. Apparently Iâve been receiving too many complaints about the training sessions being âunhelpfulâ and âirresponsibleâ for new freelancers.â
âI uh... understood Mr. Grizz.â
âGreat, Iâm glad we got this business taken care of. Youâre dismissed Mr. Maka.â
âThank you sir. Just let me know when you need me here again.â
Prologue 1.4: Taking Takoyarkov
Phew, this took a bit longer than I would have liked. But hereâs part 4 of the Takoyarkov prologue arc!
Agent Phantom and Mantis belong to @splat-tendency
Agent Penguin (Penny) and Polar Bear (Ursa) belong to @oranguin
Prologue 1.3: Revelations of Takoyarkov
Aie, life waits for no one huh? Iâm still working on putting all my ideas on paper... err rather typed up in this sense. But I digress, hereâs part 3 of the Takoyarkov prologue!
Quick mention to @clodcastâs oc Commander Sturgeon, leader of the Salmonids.
â...this is Siemo here, reporting from the ruins of Takoyarkov. I repeat, this is Siemo.â
âWe read you loud and clear Siemo. Whatâs the current situation?â
â...eâve found the objective but there are several groups of Octarian and Salmonid forces here.â
âWhat? But... that shouldnât be possible. International laws forbid any interactions with the Salmonid people.â
âWell it looks like the Octarian leader Krillovsk thinks otherwise.â
âWhat? Heâs there as well?â
âYessir. It looks as though heâs forme... some kind of alliance with a Salmonid leader. We... nât know who it is but we might be able to-â
âNo. ...this changes things. Listen to me carefully. Do not engage Krillovsk or this Salmonid leader. See if you can get evidence of this and report back immediately. Is that understood?â
âSorry GBR HQ, but...e and Torke have other plans to deal with him and his ally.â
âWhat do you mean?â
â...â
âSiemo answer me! What do you mean?â
â...â
âSiemo! What do you think youâre-â
==========
(Back in Inkopolis Military Base...)
âSir... it seems that Siemo cut the transmission from her end.â An operator manning a radio system turned to face an inkling standing behind him. The inkling took a deep breath and closed his eyes.â
âIâm not surprised. Sheâs picked up my improvised planning I see.â The inkling then opened his eyes and headed towards a set of exit doors. âSee if you canât bring up communications with them again.â
âB-but what about you, Commander Blitz?â
The brigadier leader turned to the operator and showed a faint grin forming at the corner of his lip. âWhat do you think? Iâm going to get her out of there.â
==========
(Takoyarkov, 5 minutes after end of tansmission...)
The pair of commandos snuck to the other side of the perimeter of the excavation site, their view now cleared from the rubble they hid behind moments ago.
âOkay, whatâs the plan Siemo?â Torke huffed as he took out his weapon, cocking the firing mechanism ready.
Siemo looked over the area once more and took note of everything she could. She saw that several crates filled with explosives like dynamite and barrels filled with a black, syrupy fluid were piled and scattered here and there. She also noted that several tents were arranged in such a way that an individual can sneak by passing patrols. Finally she saw that the now gaping hole had a slight slope that might be enough to allow something to be rolled down.
âOkay, Iâm going to need you to cause a diversion near the opposite end of the perimeter. Make sure itâs big enough so that they think a large force is attacking them.â
Torke looked over and saw that the opposite end of the area had several piles of debris. âGot it.â
âOnce you begin the diversion, Iâll try and sneak my way past the alerted patrols and gather as many explosives and barrels as possible before moving them next to that pit.â She pointed to the various crates and barrels. âAfter that Iâll prime those explosives and roll as many barrels as I can into the pit and hopefully get those sealed doors open. Got it?â
Torke nodded and removed his pack, opening it to reveal several small bags with wires and timers attached to them. âAlright. Iâll buy you as much time as I can. But donât do anything crazy.â
Siemo nodded back to him and started making her way closer to the base of the perimeter. Torke made his way towards his location, taking out two of the devices and laying them down by piles of loose debris piles and structures that were on the verge of collapsing. He continued setting more and more along the ridge until he had one left. Okay, now to wait for her signal.
At the same time the octoling was sneaking her way into the camp, making sure she kept out of sight from passing patrols of octarian and salmonid troops. Easy now... donât want to alert them yet. Once she saw that a majority of the patrols were out of sight she began moving fuel barrels towards the pit. One by one, she piled barrel after barrel, weapon crate after crate until the exposed doors were covered with them. Okay, now to give Torke the signal. Siemo retreated back up the ridge, still undetected, and radioed her comrade. âDo it Torke!â
âWith pleasure.â The inkling commando whipped out a detonator and flipped a switch.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Several explosions erupted along the opposite end of the perimeter, sending piles of rock and housing tumbling down towards the nearest tents. Octarians and Salmonids alike swarmed out and ran as fast as they could away from the landslide.
===============
âWhat was that!â Krillovsk demanded, the entire camp rocking from the sudden explosions.
âSir! There appears to be an attack coming from the eastern side of the base!â An octarian stammered as he held open the tent flaps. The two leaders raced outside to find that a haze of dust had formed over where the explosions occurred.Â
âGet our troops over there and stop whoever is attacking us!â Sturgeon barked. Groups of chums and octolings nodded in compliance and headed for the cloud. âIt seems out enemies are catching on to our activities here. We must accelerate our plans.â
The Octarian leader immediately set out towards the pit, only to see a certain octoling standing before them.
âYou!â Krillovsk pointed towards the opposing octoling. âI should have had you killed when I had the chance all those years ago!â
Siemo just grinned as she held a detonator of her own. âOh well, too bad for you.â She grinned as she flipped a switch.
BOOOOOM!!
A massive tremor rocked the area as the pit lit up in a fiery ball of destruction, sending burning barrels and metal pieces flying towards them.
âMove it!â The Salmonid leader screamed as he and his allies fled to the nearest piece of cover.Â
âNow Torke! Letâs go!â Siemo turned towards the rapidly dying fireball and saw that the metal doors had been shredded open from the second explosion. She glanced back and saw the inkling had super jumped to her and was following close behind. Nodding she turns to the exposed opening and takes a leap of faith, with her comrade following suit.
Meanwhile as the two leaders recovered from the shock they saw that Siemo had disappeared.Â
âDamnit! We cannot let her get to that vault!â Krillovsk hissed with rage. âAfter her!âÂ
Several troopers made their way to the pit and stormed in after them, with Octorus Krillovsk and Commander Sturgeon taking the lead.
(Inside the vault...)
âKeep moving Torke! Theyâre not far behind us!â Siemo gasped for breath as the pair ran down several winding hallways and corridors, the walls lit by flickering lights with most already shattered. Soon enough the two made it to what they could only assume to be a large open hanger. But what they saw, they were not prepared for. All around them were tens of hundreds of what they could only guess was military grade weaponry and equipment. Field guns, mortars, artillery pieces, and weapon racks lined up about a quarter of the space, while the remaining space was occupied by vehicles of wheeled and tracked types as well as aircraft such as helicopters and jet planes.
âWhat... is this place?â Siemo muttered as she gazed in awe.
âThis... is the rumored Bunker of Takoyarkov. A human made warehouse to store all their machines of war.â Torke responded, walking up to the closest weapon rack and picking up what he presumed was a rifle of some kind. âCommander Blitz said that he saw ones like these 2 years ago...â He inspected the weapon closely, taking note of how it was made from stamped metal parts and other alloys. âAnd it looks like these function just like how he describes them.â
Siemo looked over to him and glanced at it. She couldnât help but remember what happened to her back then, when she was shot at and hospitalized. âYeah, it looks like they do.â
The inkling put it aside and resumed looking through all the weapons arranged around them. âWhat do you think all these were intended for?â he asked Siemo as he stopped in front of a large tracked vehicle.
Siemo pondered the question to herself, curious as to the reason behind why all these weapons of war were stored away. But her thoughts were interrupted when she heard shouting coming from the entrance they came in from.
âHurry! They must have went this way!â
âUh oh.â The octoling patted Torkeâs shoulder and motioned for him to find a hiding spot. Soon they found a half-track truck located in the far back of the warehouse and hid in the rear compartment. âLetâs just lay low here until they go away-â
âI doubt thatâs gonna happen Siemo. We practically gave them the keys to Pandoraâs Box! Look!â Torke waved for her to look outside. As the two peeked out from their hiding spot they saw a companyâs worth of octarians and chums making their way through the line of vehicles. They hid back and leaned against the side of the truck bed. âIf we donât do something to stop these guys, who knows what they can do with everything in this depot.â
Siemo stared at her feet, unsure herself on what to do. She tried to formulate some kind of plan but her mind couldnât focus. â...what can we do?â
Torke looked around and saw that another weapon rack was next to the truck. âWe could use some of those.â
Siemo gave him an almost horrified look. âW-what? Use these human weapons? We donât even know if they still work!â
âOnly one way to find out, right?â Torke gave the octoling a hard look, his eyes waiting for her reply.
â...okay.â
The two snuck out and crept towards the rack in their squid and octopus forms, not risking the possibility of making loud footsteps. As soon as they were in armâs reach of the human-made weapons they began to figure out how to load them.
âHow does this thing work?â Siemo grumbled as she tried to fit a thin rectangular box into a hole at the bottom of one of the weapons.
âI... donât know,â Torke hissed in frustration. âAll Blitz said about these things is that you put those boxes into the open slot at the bottom, but...â
CLICK!
Siemo held out her weapon in front of herself to see that the box finally locked into place. âOh, thatâs how it works.â She then noticed a small piece of metal protruding from the side and had the strangest urge to yank it back. But as she pulled back the metal bit she didnât realize how much noise it made until-
CHK-CHK!
âHey, what was that?â
âIt sounded like it came from back there!â
âShit, not good.â Torke copied the octolingâs actions and loaded his own weapon, pulling back on his weaponâs metal bit and hearing the same clicking. âAlright, you ready?â
Siemo looked to her comrade and nodded, gripping the weapon firmly.
âThen letâs do this.â

Hell yeah, look at Blitz with that obviously legal, Sheldon approved ink shooter... wait those arenât ink shots.
Prologue 1.2: The Truth of Takoyarkov
Well, itâs about time I started working on these again! Writerâs block is apparently just as potent as artistâs block (qnq). But Iâve pulled through to bring you the next part to Prologue 1! And who might show up in this story? Who knows, but thereâs only one was to find out now isnât there? So hereâs part 2 of the Takoyarkov story!
(Several hours after landingâŚ)
ââŚake up.â
âŚ
â⌠wake up.â
âNo⌠a few more minutesâŚâ
âSiemo! Wake! Up!â
âGyah!â The octoling sat up in a daze and looked around, only to see her comrade standing over her. âUgh⌠whatâs going on?â
âItâs been 4 hours. And your turn to overwatch for us.â Torke grumbled as he slouched down by a dimly lit lamp in the center of the room.
Siemo zipped open her sleeping bag and stretched her arms before reaching for her weapon. âWhat? No time for coffee?â She joked.
âHar har, just stay by the windows and look out for anything suspicious or moving.â The inkling scoffed before grabbing his flask to sip some water. Leaning on some debris he watched as Siemo took his position by the window. He saw the determination in her eyes despite waking up, her sights set on the most remote spots around them. Her pupils focused on adjacent windows, crevices, and even the few bushes that dotted the cracked pavement running along the buildings. Hmmm⌠she certainly knows her stuff. Keeping a sharp eye on every little detail. Heâs taught her well. Torke thought as he reached an arm behind him to rest his head. Maybe she really is ready for her own missionsâŚÂ
Siemo leaned against the wall she was hiding behind and kept her eyes peeled for any movement. But in between her vigilant watch she would glance up at the night sky to watch the stars twinkle. It reminded her of the kettles that would change the artificial skyline from sunny days to clear moonlit nights. But the underground bunkersâ projectors couldnât compare to the vibrant lights of the celestial specks. Itâs so beautiful⌠I wish my friend is able to see them every night. Siemo wondered as she felt her grip on the Octo Shot loosen slightly. I wonder⌠if any of them could see the real thing. For a moment Siemo was lost in though when her weapon almost slipped out of her grip, forcing her to quickly tighten her grasp on the stock. Her heart skipped a few beats as her fingers curled around the grip of the gun. Did⌠did he see that? She turned her head and saw that Torke was lightly snoring where he laid, a hint of drool forming on the corner of his mouth. Sighing in relief, she turned her attention back forward to resume her overwatch shift.
(The next morningâŚ)
Torke slowly opened his eyes and sat up, crossing his arm in front of the other to stretch them out. He looked around to see Siemo still sitting by her post, leaning against the wall she was hiding behind. Nodding to himself, Torke stood up and packed up their equipment before nudging the octoling. âYou ready?â
Siemo looked back to him and nodded. âLetâs go.â She stood up and vaulted over the broken wall and checked around. Just like the night before the surrounding buildings, or rather what was left of them, was still and silent. She waved her hand for Torke to follow, watching the commando slide down. Giving each other a quick glance they proceeded west, where their destination awaited. After several minutes of silent walking, the two eventually came upon a large open field that was now populated by small young trees, their branches having just budded their spring flowers. Siemo stopped for a moment and walked up to the closest tree as she could begin to smell their faint aroma.
âHeh⌠not something I expected to be honest.â Torke scoffed, shifting his weapon from one shoulder to another.Â
âYeah⌠I wouldnât think anything like this would grow.â
âMhmm, these kinds of places havenât been explored ever. I wouldnât be surprised to run into a bunch of tribal peoples or something out here.â Torke leaned next to another tree as he reached a hand up to pick one. He moved the still budding flora and lightly sniffed before letting it go to drift down to the ground. âAnyway we should keep moving. If Iâm correct we should be less than half a mile to our objective.â
Siemo stepped away from her tree and nodded in agreement. âYeah, letâs go-â
Suddenly the pair heard a faint humming from the distance. âWhat is that?â Torke looked around, but found the trees were blocking most of the skyline. But it didnât take long for him to get an answer as several flying objects began to appear. âCome on! We gotta get to cover!â Torke grabbed Siemoâs wrist and started to make a break for a nearby cluster of bushes. Grabbing his weapon, Torke shot at the base of the bushes before leaping into it in squid form with Siemo following suit with her own. For several seconds the two watched as dozens of the flying objects flew by, the trees swaying from the force of their speed rustling their branches. âStay down.â Torke muttered as he carefully peeked out of his hiding spot. Eventually the last of the objects passed by, leaving the area eerily still and silent. Torke popped out of his ink puddle and scanned the trees around him until he was sure there wasnât anything else passing by.
âIs it safe?â Siemo asked as she peeked out of her puddle. Torke nodded and waved for her to come out. As she did the two noticed that all of them were headed right for their objective. âWhat were those things?â
âI donât know, but itâs definitely not good. We better move and find out.â Torke huffed sternly. The pair then started to make their way once more, determined to find out what those flying craft were doing.
After passing by numerous collapsed buildings and ruins the two finally reached their objective: a clearing of what they assumed was the âtown centerâ of Takoyarkov. They looked around and found a small outcrop in which they could see what was on the other side.Â
âUp there. That should give us a good idea of what weâre up against.â Torke started to climb up to the outcrop, with Siemo not far behind. Within moments they reached the top, only to be greeted by an unsettling view.
All across the clearing was what appeared to be a mining operation. Hundreds of Octarian soldiers were gathered around pits and tents, some operating excavating machines while others were driving trucks carrying away piles of dirt and debris. However the most alarming sight was the presence of Salmonids. Among the Octarian troopers were several Chums who were busy with their own operations as well as Cohocks carrying away pieces of scrap metal. Flying around them were squadrons of Octocopters, Octobombers, and Fly Fishes patrolling the outer perimeter.
âWhat the hellâŚ?â Siemo mumbled as she pulled out a pair of binoculars. She scanned the groups of Octarian and Salmonids and noticed that a majority of them were crowded around a much larger tent, donning the Octarian emblem on top. Despite the crowd Siemo could just barely make out two individuals having a conversation.
âWhat do you see?â Torke asked as he checked their flanks for any patrols.
Siemo felt her heart skip a beat as she zoomed in on one of the two talking. The unmistakable head crest, the distinct green X-shaped scar on one arm, and that cold-hearted glare. Only one Octarian had those features.
âItâs Octorus KrillovskâŚâÂ
(At the Octarian/Salmonid base of operationsâŚ)
âWe finally meet Octorus,â A capped figure chuckled as he puffed a smoking pipe. âI presume that your part of the plan is already prepared?â
âYes, and it seems that your part of our plan is coming along well.â Octorus huffed as he looked back towards a giant pit being dug out. All around the edge of the pit, diggers operated by Chums were clearing away slabs of earth and rock as Cohocks lugged away mine carts filled with debris.
âIndeed. Once our plans are complete, those pesky inklings wonât know what hit them,â The pipe smoking figure grinned, his whiskers twitching with anticipation as a puff of smoke plumed out. âOnce we reach that underground bunker, all of the weapons locked away will soon be ours.â The two let out a malevolent laugh as their respective soldiers joined in chorus.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
âWhat are all these Octarians and Salmonids doing?â Siemo asked as she hid behind a collapsed wall.
Torke followed shortly behind her. âI have no idea, but this is a bad sign if Iâve ever seen one. If what I think is going on down there is true, then we better move fast.â The pair then plotted out a path around the perimeter of the enemyâs base, making sure to stay clear of any patrolling aerial personnel. Slowly but surely Siemo and Torke managed to reach a position close enough for them to hear a conversation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
âDo you believe those inklings know of our presence here?â Sturgeon huffed his pipe, a few more plumes of burnt tobacco floating upwards.
âI highly doubt it, this human ruins hasnât been visited by any faction ever since the peace treaty that ended the Great Turf War all those years ago! DJ Octavio swore revenge on that day and yet he failed to because of a single inkling agent!â Octorus cursed, almost spitting venom at the ground at the mere thought of the failed usurper trapped in the snow globe. âBut the humiliation us Octarians suffered will soon be replaced by revenge!â
Commander Sturgeon nodded in agreement. âYes, and the Salmonid people will have their own vengeance for the past 2 years of those pesky âfreelancingâ inklings stealing our golden eggs. They think they could just hunt my people down for sport like weâre game?â The towering salmonid removed his pipe and looked over the quarry. âNo longer. The Salmonids will have a new location to claim as their own.â He signaled to his Fly Fishes and motioned a fin towards the bottom of the pit. They then gathered above the perimeter of the pit in mere moments before opening up their rockets pods to unleash their full payload. The pilots then fired upon the pit, sending volley after volley of Tenta Missiles into the pit. As each projectile impacted the ground, the resulting explosions sent chunks of earth and rock flying in every direction causing the few spectating Chums and Octarians to flee from the site. In minutes the Fly Fishes dispensed almost all their ordnance, the pit now covered in green slimy ink. But at the bottom of the pit was what appeared to be a slab of metal with rivets bolted along several plates.Â
âSir! Weâve found something!â One of the Chums hollered.
âExcellent! It must be the secret weapon bunker!â Commander Sturgeon grinned. âLet us see if we canât crack open the vault.â Octorus nodded in approval and followed the Salmonid, with their soldiers trailing behind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
âUh ohâŚâ Siemo said as she lowered her binoculars.
âWhat just happened?â Torke hissed, still unable to believe the sudden barrage of missiles.
âIâŚI donât know but it looks like theyâve found something.â Siemo raised her binocs again to see that something was exposed at the bottom of the pit. âIt looks like⌠some kind of vault door.â
âOh no. That must meanâŚâ Torke didnât finish his sentence as he yanked the octoling back into concealment. âSiemo, we need to notify GBR HQ of this.â
âBut how?â Siemo stuttered. She then saw him pull out his radio from his coat.Â
âWe should be able to raise a signal to contact home base with this. ButâŚâ Torke trailed off as he stared at the device. âIt means weâll have to compromise our position if they have scanners to detect unknown frequencies.â
âSo⌠youâre saying that we either let them take whatever is in that vault or risk being captured or worse.âÂ
âYeah, it looks that way. But if you ask me,â Torke unholstered his weapon and cocked it ready. âIâd rather take some of those bastards down before they try to achieve their goal.â
For a moment Siemo looked to her inkling comrade with uncertainty. But she then recalled everything her new commander did in order to protect Inkopolis. Taking a deep breath, she unholstered her own weapon and cocked it with a click.
âSo⌠whatâs the plan?â
Wave Three
A paid commission for @asianwarsaw
He kindly gave me a extra five dollars to put on hold when he wanted to think about his next couple pieces would be and wanted a âhanging-on-by-a-threadâ moment of Salmon Run on Profreshional level. And I can agree that at that stage of ranking itâs nothing but pure chaos.
"Freelancing ain't fun and games kid. Many inklings have tried to claim their stake on the mother lode, but they can never handle the pressure. So if you think that you can prove yourself to be a true Profreshional, then by all means show me what you got."Â
-Aeto Maka, instructing the next batch of recruits.
Blitz Phallanx (artwork from RubyRue aka Momo) Leading member of the Barracuda Brigade, he keeps a cool head and commands his squad with confidence and charisma. During turf wars he makes sure to keep himself in the front lines to act as a spearhead for his teammates. Outside of them he tends to be quiet but humble, never really letting his guard down mostly by intuition from his years in training. However he does get bothered and sometimes irritated of turf war participants, such as squid baggers and spawn campers, who talk trash and would either wait until the match ends or refuses to partake in the match if his teammates do so.Â
The Final Stand
Commissioned by @asianwarsaw/ @blitzandthebarracudabrigade
He requested a scene from his series of his OC Brigade which is really good to read. And this part is where Blitz is the last one standing to protect the only entrance to Inkopolis after being inflicted over his body and a shot to the knee.
