Good Eats Over Everything

GIVE ME PIZZA OR GIVE ME DEATH The only thing that beats pizza after a tiring day, is pizza with your best mates after a tiring day. Not to mention having it in a pretty legit pizza place. Right next to the only main movie theater of Forest Hills lies Gloria Pizza. A retro diner style pizzeria with a flat screen tv being the only modern splash to it that offers a wide array of classic and new pizzas, from barbeque chicken to vodka penne to the traditional grandmas square pizza, all of which are exceptionally delicious. Not to mention the staff that runs the place that almost seem like a dysfunctional family, which in my opinion just adds to the charm. Without further ado, here's a rundown; White Pizza: My absolute all time favorite. Cheese on cheese on a nice warm bread bed, almost sensual really. Nothing really special with this one except for that visual burnt cheese which makes it look more appetizing. The goat cheese was nice and soft just the way I like it. Still my favorite, still delicious, moving on. White Spinach Pizza: I saw this one and knew I immediately had to try it. I wasn't really disappointed, save for the spinach making a tad harder to chew. It still had the white pizza side that makes me love it with a nice healthy spin that anyone would love. Stewart's Root Beer: What? Its Stewart's Root Beer, the best root beer there is. Is there anymore to say? All in all I'd have to say that this is my favorite pizzeria. Not only for the great atmosphere and amazing food but also the people there. COFFEE BUDDIES MAKE THE BESTEST OF FRIENDS Aaaaand here we have another coffee post. What can I say, the call of caffeine is just way too strong. Just like the way I like my coffee. That being said, the Red Pipe Cafe really did hit the spot with they're Mocha and Matcha Tea Latte. Special thanks to my best friend @irygrima for coming along and trying out something new. I honestly love the place, it might be small but man does it make you feel big. Friendly people, beautiful art, and damn good food and coffee. So, here's the rundown: Mocha: Yes, yes, yes, I had coffee on my other post but what can I say? A good mocha is a sure sign of a good café. That being said, this was a damn good mocha. It was a tad bit bitter than the last one but that was before I stirred the chocolate sauce underneath it, which completed to whole experience. Matcha Tea Latte: To the uninitiated (like my friend) anything matcha would taste too bitter, too grainy, and too earthy but to be honest; that's what makes a good matcha. True it might not have been sweet but that's where it gets it's charm. I couldn't fully enjoy the drink (since of course it wasn't mine) but I would definitely try it again With everything being said the only way to truly justify this place is by going there (like right now) and ordering one of there many specialty drinks, sandwiches, salads, and teas (most of which are vegan btw ) Like, I'm serious. COFFEE IS WHATS IN THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH Yes, I love coffee as well and I've been trying to get away from the mainstream coffee houses. So when to 57th it was pretty hard to find somewhere to get good coffee since there was a Starbucks calling to my old cravings, then I saw my saviour. A block away from it was this small, industrial looking coffee house that called my attention. Its name was Rex and it was more than what I needed. Here the rundown; Mocha: If you like your coffee on the sweeter side, then this might not be you cup of tea (or coffee). No matter the case this is still a pretty solid cup of Joe. Nice and strong, not to sweet, not too bitter, it has that nice dark chocolate taste rather than a usual milk chocolate we get from a mocha. The barista also puts on some fancy milk foam art that is always a nice touch. All in all it's a nice deviation from my usual and I always love that Salted Caramel: Let me get this out of the way. I. Hate. Caramel. They stick to your teeth and they're ways way too sweet. I thought this bar of salty sweet goodness wasn't any different but it was waaaaaay better than I thought it would be. Its salted, and I'm always a sucker for anything salty and sweet, so I thought I'd give it a try. Its house made and that's always a plus, it wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be, it was still sticky as caramel should be and the mix of sweet and salty was on point. I still taste it lingering in the back of the roof of my mouth and I honestly don't mind, it's good, it's crave-worthy and it's more than worth it. I LOVE RAMEN With that being said, this might be a little biased. Anyways, this is one ramen place that I will surely come back to. Ichiba from the outside looks like any normal restaurant but once you come inside it's a whole different story. They have a traditional bar style set up next to the kitchen as well as contemporary tables and chairs which along with the chart topping hits playing make the whole restaurant have that perfect modern/traditional twist. The food is just as great as the atmosphere. Here's the run down: Maroyaka Ramen: What I love about ramen is that it's like a musical experience. You get that bass from the pork broth that holds most of the flavour which in this case is on point and then there's the supporting acoustics of the meat and fish cake and percussions from the chopped spring onions that compliment each other perfectly. Tuna and Avocado Roll: I'm a sucker for good sushi and this suckered me in good. Now I'm not a huge fan of avocado but pair it with any fish and roll it up in rice and seaweed and I'm down for that. Ill be honest though, the avocado wasn't as soft as I thought it was but maybe that's there style and if it is then more power to them, it was still good sushi. Jasmine Green Tea: I've been trying to like tea ever since I had a stop over in Taiwan on my way here to New York and so far green tea is up there in one of the things that make me like tea. Their jasmine green tea had that perfect clean cut that contrasted the round robust flavour of the ramen and really completed the meal. All in all, I really enjoyed this place. Traditional enough to keep it's roots and fast authentic but modern enough to fit into the New York food scene.
