It's the males that pull parent detail, not the females. She lays the eggs, and then leaves him to it.
He's the one that incubates and hatches out the eggs, and he's the one that protects and teaches the little ones. Father of the year award is not in it for ducks, it's instead for this walking feather duster, lol.
Fun Fact: When the eggs are close to hatching, the father whistles to them to encourage them to hatch quicker. He will not whistle to them if danger is nearby. Furthermore, this is encouraged for humans to do so if they have orphaned emu eggs to hatch. The chicks will generally also whistle back while in their eggs as if to imitate their parent, and a healthy baby will cause the egg to rock in response to the whistling to try and shift into a suitable hatching position.

Avian hybrid tend to have ankle pain so they wrap their ankles to give them the extra support they need. They can buy specialized braces but most just use strips of thick fabric or bandages.
-False has a pair of ankle wraps that she had since she first started to fly and at this point it's more repairs than the original fabric.
-skizz/impulse imp and skizz don't actually need ankle wraps but gem made them both handmade wraps and they wanted to set a good example so they always wear them.
-Pearl has colored matched wraps for each outfit
-gem mostly doesn't need them but when they do have wings (shape shifter head canon) they always have a extra supportive pair. She also makes handmade wraps for all the other winged hermits.
-grian constantly forgets they exist and will just loudly complain about the pain. Gem has made his several different pairs and keeps trying to get him to wear them but he will not wear them no matter how many hermits tell him it will help. Gem finally had enough and snuck a pair with curse of binding on him, at first he just complained just as loud but slowly realizing that it did actually help with the pain. Unfortunately the pair eventually broke and he immediately forgot about it stopping the pain and again kept forgetting to put them on so gem and impulse teamed up to keep curse of binding wraps on him. Gem makes the wraps and impulse supplies the curse of binding books.

Interesting notes impulse went out first by a long shot zed went second but remained pretty untouched skizz stayed on fire the longest but his face also burned first.

Look, grian knew Skizz was an angel, and he also knew Angles had wings, but the only time he had ever interacted with Skizz was in the life games, where a lot of hybrid features and abilities were removed for fairness, so he had never seen Skizz with his wings out. So it is completely understandable that in the first ten seconds of Skizz being on the Hermitcraft server a very excited Grian flying tackled hugged Skizz knocking both of them over.
"YOU HAVE WINGS!" Grian shouted as impulse picked him off of Skizz.
"did you not know I was an angel?" Skizz asked as impulse set grian down and offered a hand to skizz who took it and was lifted onto his feet.
"Yes I knew you are an angel and that angles have wings but I never put it together" grian said dusting himself off still bouncing around a bit.
"Ooo, then you'll think this is real cool," Skizz said as he started to flex his back. Impulse, letting off a small laugh, knowing what was about to happen. Two more sets of wings grew from Skizz's back. Grian looked in absolute awe before launching into an excited rant about how cool Skizz's wings were and asking if he could feel them.
"Ok, ok, ok," Impulse started as he stepped in between them "How about we head to the meeting area so the others can meet Skizz and Joel"
"Finee" grian groaned playing up the annoyance in his voice.
Grian landed on Skizz's shoulders. "Hey, buddy," Skizz laughed, looking up at his flying friend.
"How did you not even flinch? Oh, whatever, I wanted to invite you two to the first preening night."
"Oh g"
"So it's going to be in pearls base because she already has her starter base up that try hard, and"
"But I"
"It will be this Friday; there will be a bunch of different snacks. You can bring something, but no pressure, and it's great you're going to love it. Yeah that's about it see you there skizz it's awesome having you on the server buddy, I got some stuff I need to finish so I'll see you later bye skizz"
"Wait, g" Skizz watches his aviator friend fly off as he glances at his own white wings.
Now, it's important to note that there are quite a few differences between angels and aviators. One difference is how their wings behave at rest. An aviator will just fold their wings to their back, and if need be, they can cover their wings with something like a Pancho to hide them. Angel wings, on the other hand, can transform from their physical form to nothing more than a tattoo on the angel's back. This is so angels can fight on the ground without worrying that their wings will become a target.
Angels like skizz offen choose to have at least their main pair of wings out because having all three pairs hidden becomes uncomfortable so most people dont even know that angels wings can completely disappear.
This also means that angels do not have to preen their wings since every time they tuck their wings away, they reset to a tidy and clean version. And here lays skizz's delema. He doesn't know how to preen wings.
Skizz didn't know what to do. He didn't want to no show the preening night but he also didnt want to show up not know how to do anything and have his wings not need preening, so he did what he always did when facing a difficult situation.
"DIPPLE DOPPPP" skizz barreled into the ground next to impulse earning him a small yell as impulse whipped around.
"Geez skizz every time"
"Hi, buddy," Skizz said as he picked himself up.
"I need help"
"When do you not?" Impulse remarked as he got back to what he was doing.
"HEY!" Skizz yelled following impulse. "This is serious dude"
"Ok, ok, what got you twisted"
"Well" Skizz started passing "g invited me to preening night and I want to go but I dont want to let them down because my stupid wingies don't need preening and I don't know how to preen but I don't want to just not go but I feel like if I go i'll just let them down." Skizz slumped over on a nearby block.
"Why don't you just leave your wings out?" Impulse asked, taking a bite of a golden carrot.
"UHH WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THAT" Skizz exclaimed "Well that's part of the problem but what about me not knowing about wing stuff"
"Don't worry about that part; the others will be more than happy to teach you. Quiet honestly you dont even need to leave your wings out, preening night is just another reason for hermits to hang out" Impulse said "Just show up, it doesn't matter if you just sit and talk,"
"Ok, thanks dipple dop"
"Anytime buddy."
Skizz's wings were itchy; he had them out all week as well as rolled in some dirt for good measure, and all he could think about was how uncomfortable his wings felt as he walked up to the door a plate of snacks in hand.
Pearl opened the door before he could even knock. "Skizzly." he shifted the snacks in his hand to give her a one-arm hug.
"WHAT IN VOIDS NAME HAPPENED TO YOUR WINGS?" Grian yelled, peaking around Pearl. "You know what, no time," Grian exclaimed, pushing past Pearl and taking Skizz's arm. Pearl catching the plate skizz brought as Grian pulls through the door and into a room covered from wall to wall in different pillows, blankets, and cushions.
Grian pushes him down on a mattress up against a couch, where he sits and starts working on preening Skizz's wings.
Skizz blinks a few times adjusting to the light shift and looks around the room. False is sitting at the base of a arm chair with zed preening her wings to her left is mumbo who is carefully sewing scar's vex wings as scar works on cub's. pearl sits back down on the floor in front of gem who continues to remove dust from her wings with a makeup brush, behind her impulse braids gem's hair, looking up and giving a small wave to skizz.
"I need an extra set of hands. TIMMY" grian glances over to jimmy and tango who are sitting at the end of the couch tango carefully going through jummy's wings. After a couple seconds grian turns his head "JIM"
"Sorry what" Jimmy looks over in a daze to grian.
"Get over here I need help with skizz's wings." As jimmy starts to shift tango wraps his arms around him " get someone else to help you jimmy's busy" tango challenged staring down grian.
Impulse gets up and sits in-between grian and tango who are both giving the other death glares. "I got it," grian huffs as tango grins and gets back to preening jimmy's wings.
"Wait i'm confused, I thought that preening night would just be winged hermits." Grian shrugged "it started like that , but in season 8 we already had all of boatem except mumbo and impulse so I dragged them along, and at the same time gem tagged along with pearl then we stole tango cuz his hands are nice and warm and during the crossover with empires jimmy started coming and just never stopped showing up and zed kinda just appeared and has been here ever since"
"He's surprisingly good at preening" false chimed in "and braiding" gem added. Zed "I am a man of many talents " zed said looking up from false's wings.
"Dude seriously what did you do to your wings" grian asked deloging a stick from skizz's left wing. "Everytime I've seen you on hermitcraft your wings have always been flawless,"
"I said you could keep your wings out not role around in the dirt for half an hour " impulse remarks as he works on skizz's right wing. Grian gives impulse a confused look. "Do skizz's wings actually fit under his shirt?"
"No angel wings can retract into the angels back and when they do that the wings go back to a default state." Skizz explains. Grian paused for a minute "so how did your wings get this bad" skizz goes quite and looks down. "Mate did you intentionally get your wings nasty so we would have something to preen" pearl asked looking to skizz. "Maybe" skizz says not looking up. The room fell into silence for a couple of seconds before tango starts laughing uncontrollably nearly falling off the couch.
"Ok tango you can stop now, im an idiot we all get that" skizz says "your not an idiot" gem says putting down a makeup brush. "You just wanted to be part of the group"
"I told him that preening night is just another excuse to hang out but he was to busy worrying about upsetting people to listen" impulse scoffed wiping his hands on his paints and sitting back. "Yeah im not finishing that" grian declared also siting back. "Yeah thats fair" skizz says retracting his wings into his back then letting them out again.
"do you want to learn how to preen, skizz" impulse asked going back over to gem. "Your not touching my hair unless you rinse your hands" gem says picking up and pointing a small makeup brush at him. "I don't know I'm not the gentlest guy I wouldn't want to hurt someone's wings" skizz says as grian sits in front of him.
"Don't you worry about that, once scar set one of my wings on fire and you can not be worse than that."
"Hey I told you that was an accident" scar pouts.
"And let's not forget the time you fell on top of one of my wings g" pearl added swapping places with gem and starting to finish braiding her hair.
Grian rolls his eyes as impulse comes back from washing his hands and sits next to skizz, the room falling back into peaceful chatter.
"Just copy what I do" impulse says as he takes one of grians wings and starts gently sorting through grains feathers, dislodging dirt and broken feathers as skizz does the same, all be it slower on grians other wing.
About a half hour goes by as impulse finishes preening and skizz is about half way tongue stuck out in consideration, body stiff. Grian is locked in a rant about fishing that nobody is paying attention to as tango gets an idea. Slowly he starts to creep over to the other side of the couch his tail flickering back and forth like a cat hunting. Gem looks up just in time for tango to pounce on skizz's shoulders.
Skizz yelps his other two sets of wings launching out of his back sending tango over the couch as he accidentally rips a couple feathers out from g's wings which causes him to smack impulse with one wing as he jumps forward into gem who also yells at the sudden face full of feathers.
All the commotion causes mumbo to suddenly look up the sudden shift of motion knocking scar off balance into cub who was just about to sit back down from getting a drink. Cub falls to his side knocking over the chair zed is in which dominos over to the chair peal is sitting in knocking her to the floor.
Jimmy who was untouched in the chaos breaks out laughing as the others groan and sit up. "What just happened?" Zed asked partly beneath the arm chair he was sitting in. Skizz opens his mouth to start apologizing but before any words can come out gem stand up
"TANGO" she stomps over to the couch as tango stands up behind it, giggling. "Yes gem?" He says trying, and failing to act innocent.
"Don't you think I didn't see you sneaking up to scare skizz look at what you've done" gem says arms shooting out hitting impulse in the face. "Oh sorry impulse" impulse waves it off. "What were you thinking" gem says turning back and pointing at tango.
"I was thinking this is going to be so funny. And it was"
"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry about all of this" skizz says helping pearl up.
"Eh no worries mate tonight has gone smoother than a lot of other preening nights" pearl says dusting herself off, grain nods shaking his wings back. "Im really sorry about ruining your preening night." Skizz says looking at grains one messy wing.
"Dont you worry about that. none of us need serious presning cuz are wings reset after dying" false says taking a bite of an apple. "Plus this is not nearly as bad as that time in season 8"
"I thought we agreed not to talk about that time" mumbo muttered dusting off his pajama suit.
"Maybe you agreed " false answered
"In our defense half of us hadn't slept in a week for the mooners" scar replied
"Sleep deprived or not it was a bad idea to snort redstone dust." Cub added.
"We did never get that llama out of the bedrock" pearl lamented.
