From an argument wise that is possible. He was literally groomed from childhood, not sexually but still groomed to fullfil a role for adults no child had any business being in. I'd say it's more of akin to parentification but instead of the child being groomed to take care of the younger siblings like a parent would, he was parentified to become a child therapist for adult topics he didn't understand and SHOULDN'T have been made to understand at such a young age. Like trauma, death (at least not a child understandable way of explaining death such as "well one day your body stops working but we all go become clouds in the sky with all our loved ones if we're all good."), and it's possible Douma was exposed to much more violent and bad topics such as SA, abuse, murder, starvation, torture and manipulation- We don't know WHAT these adults were crying to him about. So arguably it COULD have been worse than Gyutaro and Daki who were also groomed by the adults around them in Yoshiwara, but as far as we know we have a basic understanding of what each of them most likely went through. With Douma, it's much more complicated.

Not to mention Douma was exploited by both his parents in a way the siblings weren't. They were exploited by adults surely, especially Daki, but I think it was a more 'we know what's exactly happening and we don't like it but we'll do it to survive' way for them. Because as demons and Humans both knew exactly how it was. "Take from it before it takes from you." That was what both repeated. With Douma it really is much more complicated. Especially during his talk with Kanao. He genuinely believes eating people IS kindness and putting an end to their misery. He actually doesn't see it as a bad thing, in his own words he believes there's nothing after death(until he encounters Shinibu's ghost in purgatory), and when Kanao questions his own existence he actually doesn't know how to respond outside of the brainwashing his own parents AND the multiple adults groomed him into growing up. Because that's the only existence he knows, the one his entire life, identity, and purpose is built around. Take that away and he IS nothing. There IS no other purpose. And that's what made him change towards Kanao, not because she made him angry. It's because she's right.

Most demons don't remember their human lives or only remember a few things after they turn minus Kokushibo but this isn't about him. So this 'act' could be the one thing be remembers doing as a human and so clings to it out of desperation, because outside of being Muzan's second in command lackey, and his two orders of 'find the blue spider Lily and the Ubuyashikis' ...there's also nothing left for him to do except search and commit cannibalism. Instead Douma's still running the Eternal Paradise Cult not because he HAS to. He could've killed everyone in the cult, left, and called it a day to go pursue something different. Instead he still does it because he was groomed to and because it's familiar but most importantly it gives him a PURPOSE.

He probably thinks that too more than he admits. Kanao just says the one thing out loud no one's ever asked him but himself. Gyutaro and Ume both could've found purposes outside of Yoshiwara. Gyutaro mentioned he believed they were on track to a better life, which meant he OBVIOUSLY WAS planning on taking Ume with him and leaving Yoshiwara at some point. Where? Dunno. Obviously anywhere besides Yoshiwara. Douma never had the luxury of being able to think of his life outside of being the leader of EPC and later being Muzan's servant.

there’s nothing wrong with the tweet in the screenshot, but I feel like we’ve forgotten that shipping and fandom are first and foremost for ourselves and our own enjoyment, not if the ship is popular or if there’re enough people shipping it.
