Into the Hatosy!Verse

sammy's eyes almost popped out of his head at the sight of your name flashing across his phone screen with an incoming call. two years since your divorce, and somehow the two of you had never stopped. a hookup at least once or twice a month before back to the cold bitterness any other time. "well hello," he answered, a smirk resting on his lips as he leaned back into his chair. there were only two things you ever called him for. your son. a hookup. "we need to talk. in person," you voice spoke quickly, his eyebrows furrowing a little bit at the tone of your voice. it wasn't the usual soft but sassy tone he was used to. it was short, almost shaking. the same tone you used the night of your divorce. "uh yeah- i can come over later," he chuckled, staring at the computer on his desk as he fiddled with his utility belt. "i'm outside," you spoke again before you were hanging up, sammy staring at his phone in a bit of disbelief before he was standing up.

he saw your car parked towards the back of the lot as he made his way out of the station, a cocky grin on his face as he walked around to climb into your passenger seat. "missed me this bad?" he hummed, turning to face you but the cocky look quickly fell from his face at the sight of you. it looked like you hadn't slept in days, the dark circles under your eyes giving it away. "i'm pregnant," you said quickly and quietly, so quiet he almost missed it. it was like something shot through his body straight to his stomach. nervousness? no. excitement. satisfaction. a laugh of relief left his mouth, "okay, it's not the end of the world. we have basically been-" your hand was quick to raise up in his face, cutting him off. "dont finish that sentence like we've been together. we've been a bad habit. that's all we've been," you spat, glancing quickly at him before your hand was back on the steering wheel gripping it tightly.

the scoff that left his lips was one that sounded offended, his arms crossing over his chest. "a bad habit that just happened to make a baby. twice now, if you count-" you cut him off again with a huff, finally turning to face him. he could see the rage in your eyes, the way your jaw tensed. it only excited him more. "our son is not up for discussion," you hissed, eyes narrowing at him. it felt like the car was closing in on you, the both of you so close. "i am only telling you this because you are going to be a dad again, not because this is some sign we are supposed to get back together," you mumbled, your head slamming back into the head rest of your seat in frustration. the thing about sammy though, he was a selective listener. he heard father again and supposed to and somehow still landed on the fact that you were meant to be together.

"it has been months of you calling me at midnight, begging and pleading me to come over and you're going to tell me that it doesn't mean anything?" he spoke sharply, his hand reaching for yours but you were quick to yank it away. "we are already basically a family. you know he asks why i'm not home all the time," he mumbled, trying his hardest to hide the arrogant smirk he so badly wanted to shove in your face. "don't bring him into this to manipulate me. i called you because i had to, not because i want some fucking reunion tour. i know exactly what you are and who you are, and how you have always been," you hissed, your finger jabbing in his chest over and over. "you can go now," you mumbled, turning your head to look away from him.

your whole ride home was spent sobbing, not because you were upset about being pregnant, because you were upset you were having to go through this with sammy all over again. you glued yourself to the couch the rest of the night, your son thankfully with sammy's parents while he worked. it wasn't until later that evening there was a knock at your door. "mommy!" you heard your son's voice yell from the other side, your eyebrows immediately knitting together as you rushed to open it. there stood sammy, your son on his hip as they both smiled at you. "you can't just show up," you mumbled to your ex husband as he sat your son down, the little boy running past you and inside your house.

sammy told himself it wasn't manipulation. it wasn't manipulative to show up to your house with a bag of take out and your son, 'just because.' he told himself it wasn't manipulation to just walk right past her and sit on the couch like he still had some ownership over it. he told himself a lot of things. "we just wanted to come hang out with mommy is all," sammy shrugged as he sat the takeout bags on the coffee table, shooting you a smile. the same smile he always used to give you to make you forgive him for things you shouldn't have. "sammy, this is not going to be what you are building it up to in you head. i need you to hear me before it gets worse," you mumbled again, trying your hardest to keep your voice low enough your son wouldn't hear. he only patted the spot next to him on the couch for you to sit, sliding the little box of take out toward you. "i hear you. i really do, i just think you are gonna feel different in a few weeks," he shrugged, that same stupid smile on his face before he was back to getting everything from the takeout bags.

it wasn't a threat. it wasn't really even a lie. it was certainty. certainty that he had never been wrong about getting what he wanted.
