idk if you’ve seen the last episode, but Mary died and John was hella pissed at Sherlock about it. Mary left Sherlock a mysterious video message asking him, in the event of her death, to save John from his #Depression. And for some unknowable reason she specified that the only way to do so was not to reach out to John honestly as his closest friend, but instead to put himself (Sherlock) in mortal peril so that…John’s irrepressible desire to Save The Day would override his anger? Or something like that.
Sherlock’s initial attempt to put himself in mortal peril consisted of, like, OD’ing on cocaine for a couple months, so he was high for 90% of the episode and it was really weird and kinda gross
in the end they sort of talked about their emotions like adults for a hot second, and that conversation included John figuring out that Irene was alive and then insisting that Sherlock try to have a real romantic relationship with her. And then John admitted that he’d been flirting/texting another woman back when Mary was still alive and he’s now #sad about his Contemplated Adultery.
PS the woman john was flirting/texting was secretly one of sherlock’s clients AND was also secretly john’s new therapist AND was ALSO secretly Sherlock’s sister Sherrinford the whole time ! Plus she’s evil ! Wow!
