I’m normally so good at writing letters. You can ask Jacen or Jimmy Clemens from high school. Did you know he’s in prison now? But, don’t worry. He’s doing well by the way. He made a deal with this lingerie company so that him and his buddies could make some money while they’re in their correctional facility. Anyways, as I was trying to say, I’m normally pretty good at this. I write strongly worded letters all the time. But, now that I’m sitting here trying to write this out, I think I’ve realized, I don’t exactly know how to write a letter when I’m not angry with someone. I guess what I’m trying to say, is that maybe if I liked you less, I’d be able to talk about it more.

But, yeah. I like you. A whole lot. 

I know they say a pictures worth a thousand words, but I figured I’d opt for a song instead. Hopefully, it does the same. Also, please don’t listen to this tape in public or around other people or in any situation you’re not potentially ready to be paralyzed in. I mean I don’t think someone can get paralyzed through a recording anyhow. I’m assuming you’ll be able to hear just my voice without any weird magic, but just in case. Also, I know you like Grease, so I hand-stitched the T-Bird logo into a leather jacket for you. So, you know, now you get to be your very own Danny Zuko. Or I guess my Danny Zuko? Maybe?

For you birthday, I got you a cardboard cut out of me so that you’d never have to go a day without me. 

But, in all seriousness, you spend too much time taking care of other people. So, I’m playing fairy godmother and lending you my private plane and pilot for a weekend of your choice. You can take whoever you want on it. It seats 8, so do with that as you will. Go anywhere in the world with it. Just be back before midnight on Sunday or I’ll come looking for you.

I just wanted to say happy birthday, Damien! Out of everyone in the pack, you made me feel the most welcome right off the back. I know I’m still technically ‘new’ in town, but I hope it’s okay that I think of you as one of my best friends here. I don’t know what I’d do without you. Thanks for being awesome and I hope you have an amazing birthday.

“You will five for free, Damien. I’m a man of my word as you know. I honestly didn’t put in much of a cap for tacos. I mean what ind of person would put a cap on tacos? Especially for Taco Tuesday.”

“Over the years, I’ve developed trust issues with food related promises. I’ve been burned far too many times by BOGOs.” Buy One Get One frees always had stipulations. “You’d be surprised when you go to a buffet and the signs says all you can eat, but when you do eat all you can eat, they have a problem with it. Or they ask you to pay for a second meal.” He was speaking from experience in this instance, but in his defense, he had a very active metabolism and he felt like he stayed in a constant state of hungry.

“I don’t know what I’d do without you, you know that?” She told him, giving his hands a little squeeze, before weaving her fingers through his, so that they were holding hands as she led him over to the twister mat. “My knight in- well a t-shirt and jeans, but you know what I mean,” She told him teasingly, as she spread out the twister mat on the floor, moving some of the tables out of the way so that they’d have enough room. “And technically, only one of us will get their… um… asses handed to them, seeing that I really doubt Old Man Jenkins is going to be playing with us,” She pointed out, gesturing over to the eighty year old half asleep in the corner.

“You’d be perfectly fine, and just as beautiful as ever but I’m glad you can still do all that and have me in your life,” he told her honestly. He got more and more honest with Astrid every day it seemed. He didn’t hesitate to let her know that he thought she was a beautiful person inside and out. He grinned as she intertwined their fingers, walking over to the mat. “Now that’s the modern day fairytale. Your knight in a t-shirt and jeans. Still as capable of saving the day as those that wear shinin’ armor.” Damien knew which one of them would lose and it was undoubtedly going to be him. He tended to get very distracted by her on occasion. “You never know he might stretch his legs out and forget that arthritis and beat us both,” he teased. “But I’m ready…probably sure have worn some sweats for this but I’m good my limbs are longer so…I’ve got strategies.”
