As always, Jure is the only one with any real idea about what's going on here. 537 words, inspired by Bojan's potentially spur of the moment plans this summer.
Day Twenty: Group chat
Jure
Guys, we have a Code Dublin
Kris
A what?
Jure
Code Dublin
Kris
Again
What?
Jure
Do none of you pay attention to the codes?
Jesus Christ
Bojanās missing
Kris
Missing?!
Jure
Iāve just had Å tras on the phone
Apparently Bojan popped out for milk or something and suddenly heās on a plane to Finland
Kris
OH
When you said missing I thought you meant missing
Jure
Nah I told him that he does this all the time and not to worry
Heāll pop back up in a day or two
Kris
Yeah I can see why he worried
Lucky he had your number
Jure
Well he tried Nace first but he wasnāt picking up
I wouldāve told him I was disappointed to not be first choice but I think he was getting concerned weād all been raptured
But thatās just a standard Code Day Two
Kris
FFS
Iām so glad we donāt have any gigs til August
Jure
Same
I have enough trouble keeping all my group chats straight let alone chasing up rogue bandmates
Nace
Whatās Code Day Two?
Jure
Now he appears!
Thatās a you and Jan getting lost in your own world situation
Usually coincides with a spike in noise complaints in residential Vhrnika
Jan
Fuck off Muca
Jure
From all the music youāre making, of course! š
Nace
Why Day Two?
Jure
That sweet, sweet music š
Itās the day after you joined the band that the pair of you started making heart eyes at each other
AND HAVE NEVER STOPPED SINCE MIGHT I ADD
Jan
You may not
Again, fuck off
Jure
Unappreciated in my time ššš
Kris
Back to the topic at hand
So Bojanās in Finland?
Jure
Yeah dw though
August is far enough away to make it back
Kris
Is it though?
You know one day he might just stay there right?
Nace
Kris, I donāt think thatās going to happen
Kris
Really?
All itās going to take is for Bojan and Jere to suddenly realise that they can just get their shit together and fuck already
Jure
Nace might be right here Krisko
Kris
Even Bojanās not that stupid
Surely?!
The worldās not gonna end just because they admit they want each other
This is ridiculous
I canāt
They just need to get on with fucking each other already
Jure
Itās been three years
I really do think he might actually be that stupid
Which is great news for the betting pool
But also bad news for the betting pool because all wagers have now expired
Weāre gonna need to redo it guys
Iāll get a new group chat going
Jan
Thereās one already
Jure
Thereās one for the old, sad, tired EXPIRED betting pool
This will be the brand new shiny one
For a betting pool so expansive that even our poor idiotic Bojan canāt fail to admit his feelings during
Anything up to and including the nursing home allowed
Accepted confirmations tbc
Bojan
Muca you know you put this in the main group chat, right?
I can see all of this
I just landed
Wtf?
Jure
... shit
Although if youāre skimming these messages
Kris had a great suggestion you might want to consider
jo july drabble for saucyjothoughts prompt day 19, midnight!
Pairing: Jan & Kris
450 words
The moon shone brightly down on the floor. Jan and Kris were sat in the grass at the Ljubljana castle, choosing to ditch the dorm party they were invited to for the start of the uni year. They stared down at the city quietly, both of them choosing comforting silence over poor attempts of filling the silence for a while. Jan kept glancing over at Kris; he was nineteen years old and despite Jan being only twenty, in his eyes, Kris was his little brother.
Heād seen the boy grow up so much over the last few years, growing in height, growing into his face slowly with his voice mutating eventually, making him go from a high pitched child-like voice, to one of a young man. Still, his voice wasnāt as low as Janās (nor would it ever be) but the older felt almost proud seeing the man Kris had become.
āDo you ever think weāll make it?ā Kris suddenly asked. He looked over at Jan who blinked to shake himself out of his thoughts and rubbed his chin.
The truth was, Jan didnāt know. He hoped they would. Sure, mathematicians was interesting and he liked learning about the concepts, but was it the thing he wanted to do with his life?
Janās silence seemed to answer Krisā question, making him continue talking while looking at the ground, picking at his shoe laces and poking his ankle with them.
āIām scared iāll never be as good as my dad,ā he finally admitted and huffed dejectedly.
āKris-ā
āI know, I know. I shouldnāt compare like that, butā¦Sometimes iām angry that he gave me such big shoes to fill and Iām scared Iāll never get to fulfil them. His expectations, I mean.ā he turned to Jan and smiled pained. Janās expression softened as he thought of a way to comfort him. He put an arm around his shoulders and pulled him into a side hug, rubbing his arm comfortingly.
āWeāll make it, Kris. Weāll sell out Stožice and weāll go worldwide famous,ā he said, the sentence sounding overdramatic in his own head. Despite it all, Kris laughed and leaned his head onto Janās shoulder, shuffling closer to him in the cool night.
āWeāll sell out Wembley,ā he joked, the absurdity of it making Jan laugh.
āBy twenty thirty, if we start now,ā Jan joked back, grabbing his phone to check the time.
āOn Wednesday, October twenty-third at twenty three fifty nine, weāre making the promise to sell out Wembley stadium by twenty thirty.ā Jan laughed and and pulled Kris in a real hug then, rubbing his back, feeling the blond man patting his back too.

He didn't know what was happening to him. Nace was right he was burning up, sweating purfusly even though he hasn't moved from his spot in over an hour. He was also getting antsy, or more like there felt to be a bunch of tiny ants crawling under his skin. His nose and gums felt like they were trying to push out of his skull and the hair on his arms seemed darker, but it had to just be the lighting.
"I- I need air." His guitar clattered to the ground and he shoved past Nace. Kris thinks he heard Jan say something, probably that he got it, but Kris was out the door and looking up at the moon before he could fully put together what was said. He and Jan had spent many a night stargazing so he reckoned it was close to midnight now.
Only the fresh air didn't help. Suddenly his chest heaved. He fell to the floor in a gasp grabbing his chest, but that only cause him to gasp again. Looking down he saw blood covering his? Claws? Touching his chest he realized he cut himself on the sharpened nails.
"Krisko? Dragi?" Kris couldn't feel his hands or feet for that matter. It reminded him of the first time he smoked weed with Jan and his hands felt like they were melting off or phasing in and out of existence. His stomach lurched and he fell completely forward, fingertips tearing at the asphalt. He distantly heard Jan screaming for the others but that was quickly forgotten when his, tibia? fibula? Snapped cleanly in half.
The blood curtling scream tore through his vocal cords, but nothing could stop the sound. Through his tears and his bones shattering and rebuilding themselves, he looked up at the full moon high in the sky. He never expected the thing that had come to be so special to him and Jan could be so violently taken from him.
When in doubt: pets.
497 words.
Day Seventeen: Jealousy
Itās not fair.
He expects it from Bojan, of course, for all that he was hit hardest by Martinās departure. It would be quicker to list Slovenian citizens that heās not friends with, and the charm offensive from his end has obviously been well underway from when they first met, so itās hardly surprising that theyāre already halfway to friends before Nace ever sets foot in the rehearsal space to get swept along with his grand visions of the future.
Jure perhaps shouldnāt have been a surprise either, less sunny than Bojan but equally at ease with newcomers. Itās his technical know-how, though, that wows Nace. Soon enough theyāre swapping stories of gig mishaps and laughing away like theyāve known each other forever.
Heād thought at least Kris would keep things coolly professional until they were a hundred percent sure heād stay, but apparently that must have come as fast as a lightning strike without Jan ever seeing it, and now theyāre often lost in conversation about logistics and Kris is looking at him with that bright smile that he reserves only for friends.
Apparently heād missed the memo somewhere about how to let your guard down straight away, and how to win someone over in a heartbeat. Heās never been great with it anyway, but heād thought heād do better when it really mattered, just like the others have.
And now here he is, unable to get past his tied tongue and shyness even when itās just the two of them in the rehearsal space alone. Kris isnāt due from his class for another half hour, and Bojan and Jure volunteered for the lunch run, which just leaves him hovering nervously and fiddling with the equipment while Nace sits scrolling on his phone, apparently completely fine to leave them in the silence.
Itās not fair, itās not fair, itās not fair...
He didnāt mean to get left behind. Heād just wanted to make sure that this was a change that would stick before he got too invested. And now heās got no idea how to ā
Suddenly, Nace laughs.
He stifles it quickly, but it still shatters the silence. Jan canāt help the way his head whips up towards him, or the sudden stabbing fear that itās him Nace is laughing at.
But Naceās smile is apologetic as he gestures to his phone.
āSorry, just ā my sister sent me this capybara video. She knows Iām a sucker for funny animals.ā
āOh,ā Jan manages, hoping heās imagining the relief in his tone. Even if itās there, surely it wonāt be noticeable to Nace.
āI donāt know if youāre much of an animal person,ā Nace continues. āI think Jure mentioned you have a cat though?ā
āOh,ā Jan repeats, then tries to shake himself from his surprise. Maybe thereās a chance after all. āYeah, Igor. Would you... I can show you a photo?ā
From the way Nace grins at the suggestion, he hopes things might be looking up after all.
May I offer you 413 words of mildly angsty observations in these trying times?
I took the meaning of this prompt from how it's used in their first Karneval podcast episode.
Day Seventeen: Intimate
Itās not forever, Nace has to remind himself as he watches the band. Donāt go getting too attached.
Heās worked with so many different people in so many different places that at times they start to blur and melt into each other, but heās sure heās never been around people who are so damn comfortable with each other. Itās not just the chemistry of their performance either, although thereās plenty of that too.
It starts off with the nicknames, thrown around with a casual ease that shows off their years of friendship: BojÄi, Krisko, MartinÄek, even standoffish Jan gets JanÄi and Jure appears to have so many that theyāre different every time someone wants his attention. Thereās a bit of a sting to being called by his full name alongside that, although heās sure they wonāt mean it. Heās just not been around long enough. Thereās nothing new about that.
And then, of course, thereās the hugging, if you can call it that. Cuddling might be a better term, and it comes apparently as easy as breathing to all of them. Jure is the biggest culprit, casually hanging off of anyone like a limpet when heās in their proximity ā except for Nace, of course ā but Bojan isnāt far behind with the easy way he throws an arm around whoever is closest when heās happy about something.
Except for Nace, of course, but heās just a stand in until a permanent solution is decided on.
But even more than that, itās the way that they just know each other inside and out. If Nace believed in such things, he might go so far as to call it telepathy, seeing the way Kris can take in half a rambled speech from Bojan and put into chords exactly the effect he canāt verbalise himself, or how Jan has a lighter and papers at the ready for Jure when heās patting his pockets down before heading for a smoke, or how Jure has a bag of sour candy ready to throw to Kris whenever he senses him being about to crash. It goes beyond the music and performance, etched somewhere even deeper into all of them.
It might only be Naceās third practice with the band, but he knows heās watching something special, a bond deeper than any heās witnessed in any of his previous projects or ever experienced himself.
Itās not forever, Nace reminds himself time and again as he watches how close the others are.
No drabble tonight š I simply had no time to write it. Probably no drabble tomorrow either, weāll see. But I had them planned for today and tomorrow so they will come eventually as little bonuses or when thereās a prompt I have no idea for
Bojan told Kris off for reading comments, but it's hard not to, you know?
āAre you still reading comments?ā Bojan asks into the silence.
Kris hesitates. āNo?ā
A slight push against his back. āI told you not to do it, it just gets depressing.ā
Kris turns to face Bojan, how theyāre lying next to each other in bed in their shared hotel room. With Nace having caught some sort of plague, it made sense to leave the single room to him āHow can you even tell Iām reading comments?ā
āYou squirm around and make frustrated noises.ā
āFuck off.ā
āYou asked.ā
A moment of silence.
āAnything entertaining?ā Bojan asks then.
Kris smirks at him over the top of his phone screen. āTheyāre truly making music for children these days. Bring back Omamljeno Telo.ā
He hears Bojan snort at that. āSo, from when we were children?ā
āMusic for or by children, no inbetween.ā

217 words because Kris is determined to instil some professionalism immediately.
Day Sixteen: Music for children
āKriiiiis, heās doing it again!ā Jan whines, though thereās far too much laughter in his voice for him to sound truly annoyed.
Kris, on the other hand, barely suppresses the urge to pinch his nose in annoyance. The aggravated sigh, though? Heāll allow himself that.
āFor fuckās sake, Muca.ā
āYeah, come on, guys,ā says Nace sternly, as though heās a reliable adult who hadnāt already had to be separated from Jan because they kept āaccidentallyā elbowing each other while pretending to play their unfamiliar instruments.
Paarrrrp Jure wheezes out mournfully through the trumpet, setting Jan off into a fresh wave of laughter. Nace, too, although he manages to quickly stifle it.
āSeriously, pull yourselves together,ā Kris snaps, shooting each of them a sharp look. āItās like none of you appreciate why weāre all here.ā
āTo shoot a music video?ā Nace ventures.
āTo promote our new single?ā Jan asks.
Paaarrrrr- Jure offers, although this time he runs out of breath and has to cut himself off halfway to gasp for air.
āNo,ā Kris says firmly, pointing over to where Bojan and Zoran are engrossed in their conversation with the director and the stunt coordinator. Thereās a lot of gesturing going on. āWeāre here to see Bojan get bottled, of course. You all need to get your priorities straight.ā
-
Even after all this time, I still stand by my opinion of the Bluza mv.
Special thanks to @technicallycleverdetective for taking my message of "if you had to write a sad trumpet sound, how would you spell it?" entirely in stride, although tbf I feel like this is not even the weirdest thing I've ever asked your opinion on.
Can I interest you in some cheesy NaceKris friendship in these trying times?
āDo you think weād be friends in every universe?ā
Nace blinks his eyes open. āI thought you were asleep.ā
Kris huffs. āSorry.ā Heās silent for a moment. āWell?ā
Nace considers it, then turns to lay on his side, facing Kris in this weirdly too small hotel bed. āIād like to think so, yeah.ā
The rustle of the pillow tells Nace that Kris is nodding.
āDo you?ā Nace asks.
Now he hears Kris shrug. āI was just thinking⦠what if you and Martin had never met? Maybe you would have never joined the band.ā
āProbably not,ā Nace agrees, āor at least not at that time.ā He smirks. āWho knows, maybe the bassist who joined in another life sucks such ass you have to kick him out in a year and put up an avert and only then Iāll join.ā
āOr maybe,ā Kris continues, āin another life, one of us saw you playing on that cruise ship and talked to you and we became friends much much earlier.ā
Nace bumps Krisās side. āYou were barely a teenager then.ā
āOh. Right.ā Kris turns onto his side as well. āEither way, I think in other lives we would still find our way to each other at some point.ā
āThatās a nice thought.ā

Day Fourteen: Igor
Right now, seeing Nace crouched on the floor and laughing as Igor flows back and forth between his hands, Bojan would never have believed heād ever been worried about what the cat was going to make of him. That is, if he hadnāt spent the entire journey here listening to him.
Heād known, of course, that it wasnāt really about Igor. As much as anyone wanted animals to like them, nobody was truly that invested in someoneās petās first impression of them. Much more likely was the prospect that this was actually about Igorās owner, and the fragile understanding that seems to have spun between them over the past few weeks.
And right now, seeing the way Jan is watching him, wide eyed and intent and entirely unseen by Nace himself, Bojan suspects that Nace never had a single thing to worry about anyway.
Bojan isnāt doing well. Igor had gathered that much even before the man in question had stepped into the apartment. Heās not doing well, and thatās why heās staying with Jan for a couple days.
Igor doesnāt have a reason to complain, so heās not going to. Bojan may be more tired than Igor is used to seeing, quieter too and somehow always on edge, but heās still always delighted to see the cat, and still loves to cuddle him on the couch, and if anything, his pets are even more indulgent now. Maybe he hopes Igor can seep up some of the anxiety he and Jan keep talking about by petting him. Igor isnāt sure heās able to do that, but if thinking that helps, heāll gladly leave them in this belief.
āI wish I was a cat sometimes,ā Bojan says one afternoon, his hand buried in the fluffy fur of Igorās chest. Heās still calming down from the anxiety attack he had minutes earlier. Igor nuzzles his face into Bojanās hand, makes himself extra heavy on his lap.
Being a cat really is nice, always. He doesnāt have to deal with all this anxiety stuff himself. And if his mere presence is enough to help calm a person down after a breakdown, then truly, what else is there to wish for?

"What are you looking for?" Nace had been ready and waiting for Jan for 30 minutes already, who is now looking all around his dresser for something. "I have your phone here?"
"No." Helpful, Nace thinks. Jan pauses and just glares at the wood like it personally hid the item he needs. Then again, it could have for all Nace knows. "My ring. Can't find it."
"You have rings on now?" Not entirely helpful either but the exasperated sigh did make him chuckle as he stood up to look. That's when he heard some shuffling under the bed. He looked over at Jan who's thumb and fore finger was digging into the bridge of his nose.
Nace got down on his knees and with the help of his phone light looked under the bed. Low and behold Igor was batting the much needed ring around. As Nace looked around under the bed more he noticed the cat had actually accumulated quite the collection of stolen jewelry.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Igor just wants to be blinged out too, canāt blame him for that!
Excellent prompt combination today. The weather does what it wants.
Bojan watches the rain pouring outside the wall of windows in front of him. The gloomy sky lights up with a flash. A depressing sight, truly, on any day, but especially today, sinceā
āTheyāve added another hour to the delay,ā Jure announces next to him.
Bojan turns to look up at him: neck pillow on his shoulders, sweatpants hanging low, two bottles of water fresh from the duty free shop. Just about as ready as he could be to step onto the plane, and yetā¦
Bojan just sighs. Heās just glad this fuck-ass flight theyāre waiting on is transporting them back to Slovenia and theyāre not at risk of missing a concert. Still. Kris is trying to nap off the cold he caught two tour-stops ago a few seats over, and Bojan would love to deposit him at his flat and in bed sooner rather than later.
Jure sits down next to him and hands one bottle to Bojan. They take a synchronised sip.
Jure exhales. āI spy with my little eyeā¦ā
