you know what really drives me bonkers??? what really makes me frustrated?? the fact that (ignoring how blatantly inconsistent and all over the place their characterization of him is) DC writes Damian Wayne, an IMMENSELY traumatized child who up till Gotham had precious little love in his life and even less safety and stability, if ANY, getting dropped into a family and hero community where many of the people insult him, call him nicknames that go off his precious and current actions that they don’t like, and often poke “fun” at him by roasting his violent and super defensive behavior without verbally encouraging him to grow and change and accept some safety. Is it any WONDER he stays so prickly and combative, when people call him things like “brat” and “little demon” and stuff? it’s going to take him a lot of time and experiences to start understanding safety, compassion, gentle teasing, etc. and his world got turned upside down overnight. He’s extremely capable, yes, and very precocious, yes, and very violent! Yes! And extremely combative and jealous! But that’s because he hasn’t had stability and safety like, a day in his life, and every cell in his brain believes he has to 1) fight to get anything, 2) prove himself as superior to the whole world at any cost or he isn’t worth to LIVE, 3) follow an exact set of values and behaviors because it’s all he’s been taught and the only thing that ever earns him a crumb of positive attention from anyone in his childhood so far.
