24 Hour Comics Day 2015 2nd- 3rd October 2015
Greetings everyone! Tonight I will be talking about 24 Hour Comics day that I took part on Friday 2nd October from 5pm to Saturday October 3rd 5pm.Â
The comic day was taking place at my local library and as a regular volunteer of the comic club, I thought that it would be great to take part. Once our comics were completed, they will be published and going to be on loan in the library too. Â
Several hours before it started I looked at a lot of advice on how to keep up during the night and keep focused. Â
I was really nervous because it was my first time and I was afraid that maybe I may not finish. I gathered a lot of materials which were mechanical pens, erasers, brush pens and black ink.
When I entered the room where we were going to make the comic, I saw that there were a few people who had come to take part. We were all give a sheet of paper 24 objects that need to be included in the comic and we were open to interpretation.Â
As the organizer mentioned the list, I began to visualize what my story will be. I immediately began character designs. The characters created were a possibility that they may be present in the comic. Once I done this, I wrote out what was going to happen on each page.Â
To cut time, I had my own sketchbook and worked no smaller that A5. Since the library was closed at 8pm, I dashed my way home, I sat in the dining room ad continued. Â
Also due to the lack of food that I had before it started, I managed to get a terrible headache. I did eat once I got home but it didnât help. I threw up on few occasions and the lighting in dining room was making matters worse.Â
This caused a huge problem as it lead me to decided whether or not to continue, I laid on my bed contemplating about itâŚI decided to keep going. I got up took some paracetomol with some warm water and continued.Â
As time marched on, I drank lots of ginger and lemon tea, tea with a lot of milk and water. I got strange shivers as I was drawing and when that happened, I drank something warm.  Â
I had breaks in between each hour whenever I need the toilet or if I need to stretch or walk about around the house. I wasnât listening to any music, but I did listen to some old gospel messages. It lifted my mood and kept me focused.Â
A lot of my comic making spiralled into a 30 minute routine. Since I worked small, I got most of the pages done.Â
By 3am, I got hungry and ate some food, that consisted of rice and meat. This was the last remnants left over from the week. Alongside this I drank some more ginger and lemon tea.Â
My twin brother came into the dining room to see how far I was going. He was very impressed with the results and recorded a video to post on his snap chat.Â
This made me smile and I felt quite elevated because my brother took the time to see the process and was willing to show to others. By the time it was 5am, I got quite cold so I got my quilt cover for warmth and decided to drink tea too. An hour later I put the heater on. By the time 7am came I had produced about eighteen pages. By 9am I had finished twenty pages. I was still quite hyper active and marched on to the library to continue.
The few that took part on friday came a from 11am and proceeded in making their 24 page comic. As I was four pages away and still felt shivers I drank a cappuccino and earl grey tea too. Â
By the time it reached 2pm and I was finished but I went back to the comic to add more tone.
Some of the pages that you have seen is what I had made. I am pleased with the outcome and I am now contemplated whether or not I might try next yearsâŚ.for now it a maybe. Now to catch up on more sleep.Â
