Anyway, I know that a lot of people here on tumblr do not actually buy comics, but I do want to encourage people to think about what you can do to support DCBlackout. I know that I am not a person who's purchases drive metrics at DC comics. I only put in a preorder for comics once in a blue moon, I read digitally, and I buy collected editions, but yesterday I canceled my dcui subscription and while the boycott continues, I'm not going to renew it. While I'll probably still get dc comics through second hand sources here and there, I'm not going to buy any new comics from them either.
There should be more opportunities for black creators at DC and there should be more stories for characters like Nubia, Steel, Vixen, The Signal, Mr Terrific, everyone from Milestone and more.
Even if you're not a comics buyer, you can still sign the petition and you can share your favorite independent comics from black creators. I'll start: Everyone should read Prince of Cats by Ronald Wimberly.
Try and seek out new works and expand your horizons. That's what I'll be doing.

1 thing i always felt was missing during yrra's star sapphire run was putting her new identity in contrast with fatality but bc it was literally MIND CONTROL to FORCE HER TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THE PERSON WHO DESTROYED HER PLANET of course she never got that......... i was super excited to read the new guardians even tho it was lowkey slop bc it finally put kyle and yrra together for a long time again. kyle who has wanted to help her longer than anyone else & constantly showed empathy towards her when no one else would, so i figured he'd be at least confused how she of all people became a star sapphire if not concerned abt her willingness to do so. but no instead she is just Star Sapphire and it's like she's just a brand new oc that hadn't had a relationship with him before. so im really really glad that they actually had yrra CHOOSE to be an indigo lantern bc now she actually has agency in what she does. imo it was a little rushed and she's just put right into action as The Indigo Lantern but i get it for this arc since it's not really about her. but im really hoping they get a moment to breathe and we actually get to see how she feels about this new power aside from just generally not wanting revenge anymore.
also the possibility of a yrra & soranik teamup dont even get me started. i rlly hope they give ion back to kyle but idk how realistic that is since hes busy being ugly in the green lantern book
princess koriand'r of tamaran really one of the characters of all time. reinvented cognitive behavioral therapy from first principles simply through the act of being one of the only emotionally regulated characters in dc comics. like she's been sold as a political prisoner twice. married for political reasons twice, both which ended in tragedy. komand'r. her parents are dead. the population of her planet is always in fucking peril. she is absolutely motivated by what's happened to her, but she is also very much like, the things that happened to me cannot be changed, and dwelling on them for the sake of it is an act of futility and does me no good in the long run. every day is a chance for me to do good, and that means that tomorrow i can do good, too :)
and everyone around her is like kory you are out of your fucking mind. that's not how we DO things on EARTH. on EARTH, we are ALWAYS traumatized and we NEVER heal. and she's like hey, have you considered that's not a good thing? and nobody ever listens. she's literally keeping the prince of dwelling on it in her purse because she is so fucking kind
