Summary: You never hoped to had fallen for someone especially for the enemy. But never did you think you’d give in and betray your partner.

Your mind kept drifting off every other second as you cleaned up the stable. Ever since learning about what truly happened to Marco made you second guess who you could trust. Not only that but the worse thing was that your heart had fallen for the enemy.
“[y/n], captain Levi said that once you’re done to come by his room,” Eren said, you gave him a nod and got back to sweeping the dry grass. He didn’t say anything else and left you alone in silence. He understood that you needed your space to heal after the horrible events that occurred.
Everyone in the squad knew you were hurting, even Jean realized that Marco had meant a lot to you as well. He tried his best to console you but you kept telling him you were fine. His gesture was kind that you knew, yet it was better to deal with it alone. Eventually, you’d move on and try to not let Marco’s death go in vain.
Sighing you wiped the sweat off of your forehead and placed the brooms and pitchforks back in their place. You were about to close the stable when the sound of footsteps made you freeze in place.
Your senses began to tingle, you grabbed the object nearby getting ready to attack whoever it was or whatever the thing was approaching you.
On the count of three, you turned around with full force and dashed towards their direction. You lifted your hand up and aimed the sharp side to their chest getting ready to put them in their place.
They counter back by grabbing a hold on to the large object and twisting your wrist to let it go. You bit your tongue and stepped on their foot, they moved back letting out a groan. You took back the object and held it against their neck.
“I just want to talk...” even with the darkness covering you both you knew who that voice belonged to.
Your heart leaped hearing his rough voice but it made your chest ache with pain remembering Marco’s killer.
“Leave...before I decide to take you out myself.” you threatened feeling hatred towards him.
Reiner sighed realizing you had every right to hate him “We both know it’s impossible-”
“I don’t care if it’s impossible! I don’t want to see you, whatever you have to say save it. I’m not going to listen to a murderer’s words.”
He had to admit his heart broke hearing anger in your voice, before revealing himself as a titan, he had come to truly admire you. Reiner felt at ease whenever he was near you, you’ve never once outcasted him and bertholdt. Within time the more he got to know about you more he took a liking to you.
“You have...every right to hate me...but I couldn’t let Marco tell anyone...if he did we would have been killed-”
“Oh don’t say that bullshit excuse!” you exclaimed feeling tears swelling up in your eyes. “If you were truly worried you could have left the survey corps and not killed anyone. Marco didn’t deserve to go out like that...he was a kind friend...an actual human being unlike you.”
He tilted his head down in shame, you scoffed and wiped away your tears. “What’s to bother? You don’t even care I don’t even know why I’m wasting my time with you...”
You walked passed him going back to the main barracks. All you wanted was to take revenge and let Levi know he was here but still there was no point to do that when Marco isn’t going to come back alive.
Reiner then grabbed your forearm tightly making you stop in your tracks. “I didn’t have any other choice...do you know how hard it was for me to give him to a Titan?”
Your gaze focused on the grey concrete not wanting to look him anymore in the eyes.
“Marco didn’t deserve to die...but if you knew the things we have to do to be alive then you’d understand that we are trying to make the situation better.”
“Better?” you turned your head to look at him, your eyes turned red he could tell by the small amount of light shining on you from the moon.
“You can’t make things better.” you stated “If you were truly making it better like you said then you wouldn’t be killing innocent people and instead using your titan form to kill the actual enemy. You had a choice and chose to go against your own people, how can your own hometown see you as a hero with a mask of a monster...”
“If I had told you...” he whispered holding back his tears “Would you still have looked at me...like an actual person and not a monster?”
Would I? After learning many things about both their titan forms all I thought about was killing them to end the pain innocent people suffered, you thought.
“See...not even you can answer that question-”
“I would have.” you responded “I would have tried to understand your reason and how you became a titan. As long as you were going to be on the right side of justice then everything else would have been different.”
A single tear fell down his cheek, it pained you. The fact that the man you started falling hard for turned out to be someone else that you never met.
“I knew...something was up ever since Marco...” you swallowed the sob that was trying to escape. “But I kept on hoping that my suspicion was wrong...but because I was a blind idiot I fell for the wrong person....and even now it hurts to look at you.”
“I never meant to fall for you either...[y/n].” he said “I was supposed to focus on getting better and then leaving back to my home town...but then I saw how determined you were and it made me want to learn more about you. I was reeled in the moment I spoke with you...and I realized how will such a strong and skilled girl ever look at me knowing I’m a titan.”
“W-why...” you mumbled, “Why are you telling me this now?”
He walked closer to you making your breath hitch, “...I can’t stop thinking about you...”
You looked at him in the eyes trying to find something anything to know he was lying to you. However the longer your eyes lingered in those hazel eyes the more powerful force was driving you to kiss him.
“I-I can’t...pretend that i-it’s okay to hear those words...when it’s not...” you mumbled, he wiped away your tears with his thumb. Your body tingled feeling his rough skin.
“My biggest regret was not telling you how I felt...”
Why was this so hard? You had so much anger and grudge against the people who killed Marco. Now all of a sudden it disappeared when he was close to you? Your heart couldn’t even stop beating rapidly, your body was yearning to be with him.
I can’t...he killed Marco...h-he’s the enemy, you thought.
There were no words needed to know how you both felt. It was a surprise that you both had fallen for each other. Yet these feelings were unexplainable, they were mixed and now you didn’t know what was right or wrong. Reiner betrayed you and killed your best friend, how were you supposed to be next to him more than so be this close knowing what he did.
Your lips were begging to be kissed but you were trying to do whatever it takes to not fall into the temptation.
You closed your eyes trying to remember how safe you felt in his arms.
“Can’t...you try...not to love?...” you muttered as his head kept leaning in little by little.
“I’ve tried...so many damn times but my mind just kept going back to you...” he replied.
“This is...wrong...” your tears slipped away once again, his hand cupped your right cheek gently.
“Let’s pretend...just for a second...is all I want...” he pleaded “Please...[y/n]...”
You couldn’t stop yourself and before you knew it your lips connected and soon the kiss began to turn into something passionate. You felt guilty for letting him kiss you when you should be fighting him. Marco would have been disappointed that you knew deep down.
His other hand was resting on the side of your hip, he kept bringing you in closer making your chests collide against each other. Your stomach was filled with butterflies and you were feeling dizzy from how much the air was soon decreasing.
Neither of you wanted to pull away, not wanting the moment to fade away but only to last.
You were first to separate from him not being able to breathe anymore. Reiner tried catching his breath but kept his hold on to you.
Without thinking you rested your head against his chest and he wrapped his arms around your figure in a protective way. He then placed a gentle kiss on your forehead a small smile formed on your lips.
This was all you ever wanted and now it was over...for good.
“Are they coming back soon?...” he asked, you nodded and he sighed hugging you tightly.
“You...should get going...” you sniffled, “Before...t-they find you...”
“[y/n]...” he said you lifted your head up and looked at him. He placed both his hands on each side of your head “Please...remeber...I-I’m here for you...alright?”
He wanted to cry that much you could tell by how he stared into your eyes. His eyes were becoming glossier by the seconds. All you could do was nod, he kissed your forehead one last time.
“[y/n]!” someone yelled in the distance. Your head turned to see three figures coming your way.
“You need to go,” you said wiping away your tears, Reiner observed you as you looked at the open field. “Hurry...before they realize I’m with someone.”
He placed his hands on the side of your neck and pulled you into another kiss. His lips weren’t as warm as they were the first time you kissed, gently you kissed him back. Pulling away he took one more glance at you and left, running quickly through the back of the shed and through the open gates.
You already missed his warmth, even then there was no way you could keep him in your heart.
“[y/n].” your friend called, you looked at them and slightly smiled feeling thankful that they couldn’t see your red eyes.
“Hey, Eren.” you said walking towards them, they stared at you and you waved them off knowing what they were going to ask.
“I’m fine, I’ll be fine don’t worry.”
“It’s getting late we should head back to the barracks,” Levi said.
“Yes, sir,” you spoke and folded your arms trying to warm yourself up. “Here,” he said and gave you the cape he was wearing to keep you warm.
“Thank you...Levi.” he gave you a nod and waited for you to walk. Jean walked by your side as Eren took the lead. Levi walked behind you making sure no one or anything attacked you from behind.
Secretly you moved your hand back and held his hand in yours. He intertwined your fingers together and gave it a gentle squeeze.
Reiner looked away feeling angry that the captain had managed to capture your heart.
Levi was your partner and yet you were thinking of someone else.
“So you’ve finally accepted it! Yes! Excellent! It all starts now for you! With my blood pumping through your veins, you will surpass me...you will fulfill my ambitions!”
