As a kid, I loved any fantasy. I grew up in a household with two brothers and we lived in the bush. We were constantly building weapons and forts and things. But I didn’t set out to be an action hero.

My real self, the self I have always been from a child, is a loner and nerd, slightly overweight, with a very heavy fringe. That is who I was as a kid. I don’t think I will ever be anything other than that.

What keeps you confident in a healthy way is knowing that everyone else around you is going to support you and teach you and you’re going to learn from them. I just feel open to learning from people.

It would be such a waste to just continue to do the same thing and not take a risk. I don’t have anything to lose by taking a risk artistically, I only have something to gain, even if it doesn’t work out. And certainly the experience of something not working out is valuable.

Just be yourself, and never ever submit to the pressures that are part of school because it can really destroy you. High school can be a really good place, but you really have to be careful and just keep a good, solid head on your shoulders. Keep your head up high, and just do your thing. Know that there are other people out there like you.

I’m interested in playing women who feel real, who are fighting for something or desire something or are scared, as all real women are – or let’s not make it a gender thing, as all human beings are.
