mistakes // emptiness

“dad no.”

“i just call it as i see it, no bones about it.”

    [ ... I JUST HAD A REALIZATION.. DO I EVEN HAVE ANY BONES ANYMORE? OR AM I JUST A SHAPE-SHIFTER THAT CAN CREATE THE ILLUSION OF BONES? ]

“cause he had no body ta’ go with.”

   he simply snorts.

“uhhhhhh….i’m always like this, pop, whaddya mean? and …..no? i think i’d remember seeing you all….uh… goopy n stuff….”

The younger skeleton cocks his head in concern and starts to reach out for his father. 

“it doesn’t….hurt, does it? we probably should take it slow bringin you back home to Papyrus, knowin my little bro, he’d probably break down in tears ‘f he saw ya’ like this…..can’t blame ‘em tho, he’s still a baby bones afta’ all.”

   [ PAPYRUS?? BUT HE’S NOT-- ]

   he paused-- realizing his mistake before he made it. gaster was quick to deduce his son had some form of amnesia, though why it had only reverted him back to this version of himself didn’t make any sense. 

    [ ... SORRY, I’M KIND OF SPACEY TODAY. I.. PROBABLY OVERDID IT THIS TIME, HUH? ] 

    this was probably the one time he let it show (just a little) just how sickly he was. that part he didn’t have to pretend, and it could keep sans busy long enough so that gaster could formulate a plan to bring sans’ memories back without hurting him.

“oh hey pop! guess what?! i think made a major stride in breaking the barrier today! yeaaa! that’s right! sans the skeleton is gonna be th’ one to free us all n get us all to the surface! nothin’ can keep th’ coolest skeleton in the underground down! i-”

“-woah! pop what the hell happened ta’ you?!”

   [ WH-- SANS? WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU? YOU SEEM.. HAPPIER? THAN THE LAST TIME I SAW YOU..? DID I ACCIDENTALLY TRAVEL TO THE PAST..? ] 

    gaster takes a look around, and sees that they were in fact in the present. he would know if he was travelling between timelines again, or if he had fallen back into the void. a look of confusion strikes him. 

“That is the funny joke!” He slapped the skeleton on the back– no doubt rattling his bones. Globgor often forgot his own strength. He was a giant of a monster, but as harmless as a kitten so long as he didn’t feel threatened.

In this realm of monsters– he belonged.

“You are very punny sir!”

    as he’s hit in the back, gaster trips over himself-- falling flat on the floor and turning into a puddle. it takes a few moments before the scientist reshapes, turning from his pudding-like state into his more solid skeleton form.
