The first volume of American Eldritch was published this summer -- it’s a collection of Weird art and literature, a tour through the work of some fresh faces in the old storytelling traditions of the spooky, the arcane, and the ominous. I had the privilege of developing some material for this first issue -- I hope I’ve delivered some toe-curling good humor and horror.

“The Lighthouse Keeper,” is presented as a reprint of an early-career short story by pop horror writer R. Wess. Later, Wess offers the introduction to the letters of Caroline Mary Stone, letters recounting supernatural events that he claims he found under the floorboards of his old century-old South Carolina home.

I’ve been a reader of old spooky fiction since I was a little kid diving deeper into some of HG Wells darker stories, I had a blast writing these. 

The American Eldritch imprint (found on tumbler at  http://americaneldritch.tumblr.com/) published their first book earlier in the year; The Gods of Pangea -- a remastering of  fantasy author Lord Dunsany’s (1878-1957) collection of imagined mythology, an early inspiration for H.P. Lovecraft’s Ctuhulu mythos. It’s illustrations, from artist Sidney Sime, are presented in color for the first time in Pangea.

On the origin of Magic: the Gathering --

Legend has it that one day his (Richard Garfield, creator of Magic: the Gathering) math friends challenged him "Hey Ricky bet you can't make a pie with FIVE KINDS OF FILLING.

This is a gag from one of my last Magic Crad Pro videos -- the 3rd of a proposed 10 video series on my Zedruu the Greathearted EDH deck. I got 5 videos in before placing the character on hiatus, but this was one of my favorite (and most coherent) jokes.

It references the "Color Pie", a core design concept for Magic.
