A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
A picture is worth a thousand words. A picture captures thousands of words. A picture holds captive words. A picture holds captive my words. A picture has killed my words.
Instagram has been my jam as long as words have been trapped behind my lips. The idea of capturing a moment, the colors, the visual memory, it’s so attractive. And easy. To snap a pic, to post it, to get those little hearts to appear on the insta-account is super appealing. I look back at the collage they create for me and think “wow, my life is so colorful”. But then i come back and visit my tumblr and see it’s been years since I’ve last written, it breaks my heart. I remember stories I’ve posted instead of snapping a pic. I named the dogs of passersby and gave life to colanders and leaves. Just my words to interpret the sights and paint a picture for the reader. I miss writing. There is something in writing that cannot be captured in a picture. You have the memory, but when others look at the same picture they interpret it with their own emotions. With writing you offer the reader your emotion. The reader is free to interpret, but only after you have sought to communicate your personal relation with the subject. A picture has stollen a thousand of my words. So a thousand of my words shall take back that picture.
