Gustave Doré found the power of the Resurrection in what isn’t there.

In “Angel Showing Mary Magdalene and the Other Mary Christ’s Empty Tomb”, an angel points toward the empty tomb while the two women stand quietly in the background. Instead of filling the scene with drama Doré lets the empty stone speak for itself. Sometimes absence tells the greatest story.

The knight’s encounter with the mysterious faery lady, an otherworldly figure who enchants him, draws him away from the world of men, and leaves his soul bound to her spell.
