Is it okay for a trans man to like pink clothes? Can a trans man love to paint his nails and still be a man? Am I allowed to wear makeup as a trans man?

If you struggle with questions like that, it can help to just cross out the word “trans”.

Can a man love to paint his nails and still be a man? Of course! Painted nails do not revoke someone’s manhood. (And neither do pink clothes or makeup!)

Those are just decorations people of any gender can put on. There are plenty of examples of famous cis guys who wear painted nails or feminine clothing!

Of course this is a bit simplified. There are a lot more points that we could talk about regarding this, from “Some people need to pass as cis for their personal safety or wellbeing and need to factor that in when deciding to wear a pink shirt outside” to the broader discussion of the sense and nonsense of gendering clothes/activities/colors.

But it’s still a nice and quick way to stop yourself from going down a worry spiral over being too feminine to be a real man!

As someone with a lot of knowledge in the area of Irish folk music, I was able to categorize Gaelic/Irish songs into four categories:

-I got drunk and did something stupid

-There’s this girl. She’s very pretty and also gorgeous and I would like to have 15 kids with her although we have never spoken

-I hate the British and I will fight them forever and ever Until I get deported to Australia

-I am leaving Ireland to go to America and my heart is broken

Listen to any Irish song and you’ll see, it fits into one of these categories. I promise.

The Cranberries generally fit in the Hating The British category, but even they aren't as extreme as some of the songs written around the time of the 1916 rising and up to the beginning of the Troubles. I taught myself a song written about the Rising that my mom forbids me from singing in public because of what it says about the British.

Hozier, meanwhile, falls into the Secret Other Category of 'faeries, standing stones and ancient bog creatures' tell me in the tags if you want my opinion on other modern/historical irish singers and which Category they fall into!
