Toadstools and Coffee Beans: Official Announcement
Based on the last poll, you guys are open to me going ahead and announcing the game!! Let's go!! My new website with everything made pretty is here! If you want to help support the game's development, I would love to have you as a beta tester!
"You inherited your grandmother's old coffee shop after her passing two months ago. Moving back to your home town, you take up the task of renovating the shop and the small apartment over it before re-opening the shop to the public! Familiar faces turned new customers with unique orders, and lets just hope you get them right... especially the orders for some of the delectable singles in town!
While contending with the shop, your new regulars, and the random folks who stop in for their daily coffee, something is bugging you: your grandmother's death. She had been in good health leading up to her passing... maybe you can learn more about her private life around town and the old apartment's hidden nooks and crannies."
THE MECHANICS:
Every customer has their own order they prefer. It is up to you, and your grandmother's trusted recipe book, to get them their order! Failure to do so will hurt your pocket and your future possibilities... as well as your relationship with the customer!
Accuracy affects some of your ending stats and is based on how correct (or incorrect) you do the orders! Every slip-up is a point off... or more.
Tips are based on your accuracy and the customer's satisfaction. Get the order right and treat them well, and you might just get a bigger bonus tip than if you only got the order right but treated them badly!
Customer Satisfaction is perhaps your biggest contender for tips and if you get paid or not! Be careful as well, as some customers have allergies or preferences that will deeply hurt your satisfaction!
Get to know the romances by conversation and doing their order correctly! If you get their order correct and are amiable to conversation with them, they might even agree to a date... or ask you on one!
Future Mechanics: I'd like to involve a gift-giving system as well as maybe offer a way to get higher quality ingredients so your pay and tips are higher, allowing for better gifts to be bought or new date locations to be used. Dates, gifts, etc are only available beyond the demo, which will encompass week one of October.
The Romances:
Amelia - Water Elemental. She/they non-binary. Witty, smart, and a little flirty. She's studying to be a microbiologist and takes her scholastic pursuits very seriously. She is 28 years old. Her entire body seems to be made of blue water, contained by magic to have a feminine contour; her hair is made of long, blueish purple tentacles.
Falcon - Half-orc. He/him man. Gruff in a socially awkward way, he's rather shy. He takes the library's needs and resources above his own, as the curator. Often, he is seen in the shop with a book on his break. He is 33 years old. His skin is a grayish dark green, almost olive tone; he has dark honey eyes; small tusks; and long black hair, with the sides shaved, and usually kept in a low ponytail.
Halsiner - Human. He/him man. Gruff in a reclusive way, and rough around the edges. He has been a monster hunter since his teen years, putting down amalgamations and dark sorcerer creatures that threaten the town. He is 42 years old. He has a graying, well-kept goatee; graying jet black hair, kept cut to his ears; scarred, sunkissed skin; and baby blue eyes.
Manita - Succubus. She/her woman. Flirty and forward, she shows interest in most MCs immediately... but keeps you at arms' length personally. She is the demoness who writes demon contracts for the local Baron and the hellgate that's open nearby. She is 132 years old. She appears to be latina in appearance, but with deep indigo hands, feet, and prehensile tail that ends in a heart. She has both a set of antelope and ram's horns. From her showy clothes, you can see she has more markings of deep indigo in other places. Soft, brown eyes.
Piper - The other local witch. She/her woman. A bit nosy but friendly and cheerful, she's a bit of sunshine around town, even if she knows everyone's business before they do; her job as the town's newspaper journalist and the actual owner of the newspaper allows that. She is 30 years old. She has hazel, expressive eyes, deep brown waves of hair to her shoulders, and fair skin with freckles over her nose and cheeks.
Orian - Fledgling necromancer. They/he non-binary. They're not the friendliest; honestly, he's kind of an ass, but may warm up over time... if given a reason to. Orian runs the local game shop, likes his coffee with boba, and to be left the hell alone... or do they? He is 35 years old. South Asian features, with unruly black hair that sticks out everywhere, and monolid black eyes.
The Roadmap:
Demo:
The first demo will be Day 1 of October. You will have some replayability, as there are randomized customers on all three orders of the day! Go wild! Some of you might even get a sneak peek at a future DLC romance option ;)
The final demo will be the first week of October. This will encompass all five business days, plus the light Saturday, that your MC works, and their first free Sunday. Explore town, stay at home and learn, or even start a garden!
Name your shop, pick from eight (light mode only, I am considering making them dark mode too somehow!) themes, choose the type of shop you'd like to run (this only effects flavor text for now).
Meet all six base game romances, and some of the DLC ones too!
Orders will only encompass drinks for the demo. However, by week two and three, you will have meals and far more complex drinks to contend with.
Every encounter almost is randomized. I want replayability high! However, some customers might repeat and remember if you got their order right or wrong, and how severely you did it.
Demo for day one I'm hoping to launch in July. The full demo? Y'all IDFK I'm gonna work to make it good so probably next year or late this year!
The Base Game:
Price: Unsure. Maybe $5-10?
Time: October 1st-31st. The game ends on the Samhain/Halloween festivities. Has all four weeks of the game!
Orders: Drinks, complex drinks, meals, complex meals! Includes substitutions or a lot of add-ons sometimes.
Six full romantic routes. You can get up to three dates with a character in one month. However, you can hangout with them outside of that, too.
Endings. Endings are based on tips, accuracy, romantic or non-romantic paths, and pay. A lot of it is end statistics, but maybe there are special endings, too ;)
Further and Beyond!:
One-Two (or more? idk) DLCs with new romances to pursue in each one! You might even glimpse or meet them in the base game :) (These will be copies of the game with replaced base-game ROs, new gifts, new date scenes, etc)
Community-voted shop themes added (super stoked for this one ngl)
New menu items and weekly events (I really would like to have unique recipe menus for each type of shop eventually... idk if that'll happen, but we'll see :) )
New Mechanics added
Additional month or a game #2?
More replayability added via more randomized customers. If you have anything you want to add, you can suggest it to me whenever!
More characters with unique orders
That's all!!! Lemme know if you have thoughts, questions, concerns, etc!!

Hi, friends! I see by your votes on the poll you're:
interested in knowing what's on the roadmap, so I'll go ahead and share two snippets for each level.
Some information about the game itself!
So, the game is a coffee shop simulator! You will be taking over grandma's old coffee shop and serving up piping hot (or ice cold) coffees, teas, and other drinks! There are six romances to start, and in the demo you will meet each of the base game's romances, one per day, as the demo will encompass the first of four weeks at the coffee shop!
Yes, you DO have a recipe book... because you have to make the choices to prepare the drink itself! There is an accuracy meter for your overall attention to the details your customer gives you as well as what the recipe calls for. Mess up too badly and they may not even pay... leaving you with no fun spending moneys. And trust me, if you wanna get close to your romance option of choice, you will want spending money.
There are three major mechanics with everyday customers: tips, accuracy, and customer satisfaction. Tips are rewards based on how satisfied the customer is, accuracy affects your pay for the day, and customer satisfaction affects if they pay and what size tip they leave! Get the order right (or mostly) and you'll still get paid and a tip! Get it really wrong... and you'll lose accuracy, tips, and pay for the day. You only have three orders a day (for now) to build your accuracy, which will change what your end-of-day pay and bonus tips are. In the first week, every day will have one romanceable customer stop in, and in week two-four, you can choose which stops in. If you want to take someone on a weekend date, you might want to focus on a specific someone stopping in more often... and make sure you get their order right :)
Some features, some already listed:
Six romances for the base game. You have already heard a snippet of who they are in my other poll still running
Sundays are your free day. Spend the morning getting things done, the afternoon buying a gift, and maybe the night on a date! OR any of those in whatever order! But remember, they will only accept your date invite if you have not been utterly assholish to them and have gotten their order mostly right!
You can pick from eight themes currently, which change the color of the game. Unfortunately, I'm unsure of when I'll make the dark theme versions for each; it may be when day one releases, it may be when the full demo releases.
Speaking of the demo, it will encompass the entirety of week one of the month of October!
I am aiming to have HIGH replayability, so a lot of orders and customers are randomized! One of my stretch goals is to add even more randomization in a big update once the base game is done and bug-tested thoroughly. I'd love to have a near endlessly playable game tbh
There will be different parts to your ending based on your stats, who you romance (or don't romance at all), and overall, how you spent your time!
Let's talk about the roadmap. I promised a sneak peek at two roadmap bullets per category (which there are three):
Demo: Name and theme your shop, as well as choose what type of shop it is
Demo: Meet all six love interests for the base game
Full Release: Expanded menu with drinks, meals, and complex orders after week one.
Full Release: Special seasonal finale
Stretch Goal: 1 or 2 DLCs that add six more additional romances. (You would receive a copy with the original romances replaced with new ones.)
Stretch Goal: Community-voted new shop themes
If you want to beta-read and beta-play this game, I humbly ask you to fill out this Google form.
Do you want me to release the website and roadmap to the public after learning about the game?
Yes! I want to know MORE!
Yes, but only if it tells a little more about the love interests.

First I need to know the succubus gender otherwise I pick the necromancer
Second I know this is annoying but now that you're half unretired from game making... Is there even the tiniest chance of continuing Mind Games? 👉👈 I may love MC and certain werewolf too much for my own good
Congrats on your book ❤️🧡🩷
Succubus is a woman!! <3
You are not annoying me at all <3 I DO plan to go back to it, I just need to figure out a storyline that works better! I promise I am def thinking of it, I just gotta brainstorm some major stuff :3 Also, maybe not even have it as a series anymore, maybe just an enormous fucking game. If so... well.... we'll see what happens :3 I also miss a certain werewolf too much :sob: BLAKE AND FAWN MY BELOVEDS
My book is available for both Kindle and Paperback here on Amazon! I'm so excited to share it with y'all :D
But that's not my only big post. So, I thought I was done with game development. Honestly, I fell out of love for it over the past few years and I still kept trying to force myself to do it because I thought I had to. So, I put it down, and turned to books and novels.
What I learned over the past few months since then is I still love text-based games. My problem lied in how I set my sights too high and kept trying to push series instead of trying to do singular games to develop skill, practice, and understand both how game making worked and myself as an artist/game developer. I've learned a lot from writing two and a half books. I've realized the importance of patience, practice, revision, and understanding myself and my strengths as well as my limitations.
What I'm saying in a long-winded way is I plan to get back to making games, as well as writing. But I'm not gonna just shoot out shit anymore. I'm going to focus on a small amount of projects, including fixing and making older ones better and more polished over time. I will likely prioritize using Chapbook by Twine as it is less convoluted to learn and, quite frankly, I prefer it to Sugarcube and Harlowe. That's not to say I won't do projects in those two, but my main focus will be working in Chapbook.
As always, my games will have free demos of between 3-6 chapters depending on overall length and word count. Soon, I'll be announcing the launch of a secondary website JUST for my game development, as well as a few forms: one for beta reading/playing sign ups, one inside of my projects for feedback, and maybe one for fun for those of you who are still around.
I can't promise I'll have something out any time soon, but know I am working on something, and it WILL be better than the slop I've made previously.
