It may be a weird movie choice for it but the day my mom died I put on The Lord of the Rings because I had been meaning to watch it again as an adult and... I felt like I kind of needed the hopeful message it delivers.

So. My mom just died. It was very sudden. We're dealing with everything right now. I was working on a video. Still need to do the voiceover so that'll probably be on the back burner for a minute.
When I'm not like, shaking, I feel like this is my sign to Do Something so at some point so I might be more active, do commissions, or maybe I'll be in a depressive funk for years and never draw again (unlikely) But honestly I don't really know.
It feels like a regular day. It's been intercepted by crying and shivering and EMTs and Police in the yard freaking out the dogs. I got woken up early. I'm tired.
It's still surreal and fresh. If there was ever a reason to stop putting off therapy I guess this is it. But mostly I guess I just feel the same with grief and that hot prickle in the back of my skull that comes up when I think about death.

"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is
Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.
Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.
You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.
Sex is not what makes someone an adult.
Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.
Sex is not equally important to everyone.
You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.
You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.
Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.

Watched a good chunk of The Summer Hikaru died and as gnarly as the scenes can get it has just made me feel unfathomably lonely
Finished what there was- ngl I kind of expected it to be one season the whole way through so it setting up a cliffhanger is surprising! I would bet on two, mayyybe 3 seasons though. It's too ephemeral feeling to be any longer than that (like summer itself)
The not lovers, not just friends, but a Secret Third Thing remains STRONG here. I mean, Hikaru effectively says as much.
I could wax poetic about metaphors all day but I think I'll just say... I like this show. It makes me sad in a good way.
I was asked by a friend yesterday if I could offer basic tips about comic paneling. As it turns out, I have a lot to say on the matter! I tried breaking down the art of paneling using the principles of art and design, and I hope it helps you out!
EDIT: uh uh there are a lot of people reblogging this, so i figure i may as well append this now while i can lol
This whole thing was very much cranked out in a few hours so I had a visual to talk about with a friend! If this gives you a base understanding of paneling, that's awesome! Continue to pull in studies from the comics you see and what other artists do well and don't do well! You can tell paneling is doing well when the action is flowing around in its intended reading format.
Here's the link to the globalcomix article from which I pulled the images about panel staggering! Someone sent in a reblog that it wasn't totally clear that the 7th slide mostly covers what NOT to do in regards to staggering, and that is my mistake!
I saw in a tag that someone was surprised I used MamaYuyu too, and I don't blame them lol. If I had given myself more than a couple hours maybe I would have added something else on, I just really admire MamaYuyu's paneling personally.
