I kill Snow.

                     He removed her fingers from his wrist and placed them over the pulse point on his neck. “It beats for you, and only you, you know that right?” If someone told him that they would be facing the end of the world as they knew it in a few months time he would have said a lot more. Would have told everything, that he couldn’t live a day without her. 

                     “They’re not going to kill me. We’re the boy and girl on fire remember? The Capitol loves us.” He laughs with the irony of it. He doesn’t even know where to begin, how they got tangled in this twisted web but they’re here && they’re here together. “You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.”

                  The touch of his palm made her turn around, eyes skimming over the place he fingers touched his neck. The beat was much stronger there, more... real. Gale had changed since the games. So did the. They grew closer, inseparable. Only good thing about the games was that, now, his light would never be dimmed by the mazes that went deep beneath the ground. She knew he’d end up in there, if they didn’t get reaped. If they didn’t play, and win. Perhaps they were ruined in the process, but... there was some light in this. The woods still were their rescue. Their siblings were no longer hungry. They shared bed every night.

                   Her fingers on his wrist feel like velvet. She’s more than he could ever ask for. “I can get you something to drink if you’re thirsty? Lunch is soon I think.” Gale would eat a few rolls and some soup. Capitol food was disgustingly rich and he couldn’t stomach it. 

                    Or… they could stay in here, hide away from the world and sneak food after Effie ( and her huffing ) had exited the dinning car. He presses a gentle kiss to her hair, just above where her braid started. “Katniss, you know I’ll protect you against everything right? You’re my priority.” 

               “Let’s just stay here. We can-- we can sleep. And ask someone to bring us a snack later.” She didn’t want to move. It felt as if she just got comfortable, and even slightest of movements would mess it up. And yet, her fingers moved, seeking his pulse. She found it in a few seconds, and rested the flat of her index and middle finger against it. It was a game she played when he was asleep and she felt anxious. There were worse games to play, really.

                     Gale wasn’t interested in the Capitol food on the Victory train. They were in between districts eleven and ten. Eleven had been something of a shit show. He’d offered to pay for housing and any living expenses for Rue and Thresh’s families for the rest of their lives. A Peacekeeper had given him a look that reminded him that they were on the eve of a revolution. Then, Katniss had made her speech and everything went continuously down hill. 

                      But they’re safe here. Katniss is laying in his arms and despite Effie’s looks and muttering disapproval she’s here in his room. “Katnip? You still awake?”

              Her back was pressed against his front, cheek resting against his upper arm. Gale’s body granted the warmth she craved and no blanket could give-- the safety she could only feel like this. Alone with him, knowing that his heart beat not even a feet away. Most of her nightmares came when she fell asleep alone, and panic crept in right after waking up. At this point, sleeping alone ceased to be an option.

              For a second, she didn’t react to his question, fingers resting against his wrist. The blue of his vein was bright against his skin, and the movement of her fingertip over it was ( mostly ) to let him know she heart him.
