Arthurian less known Tv shows + queer tv shows (why queer shows? because that is mainly all I watch the rare times I watch tv shows) you can watch instead of fascists' wet dream and far right created "The Pendragon Cycle" this January 2026.
Also, in general, I am a big fan of pirates.
Arthurian tv shows
The Legend of King Arthur (1979, BBC) - My favorite arthurian tv show is still not popular and it surprises me IMMENSELY! This is the most faithful adaptation to Malory, with 10 episodes you will get: scheming Morgana, scheming Mordred, Mordred and the Orkney brothers, funny hats, and dramatic emotional endings!
The Adventures of Sir Lancelot - This is a comedy/adventure tv show of 30 episodes, where each episode is mainly a complete story (so you can just watch a couple here and there!).
Arthur et les enfantes de la Table Ronde - A two seasons (52 episodes per season) animated series about young Arthur and the adventures of his friends. Other characters in the show are: Guinevere, Morgana, Merlin, Mordred, Morgause, Sagramore, Gawain, Tristan and Ulfin. This show is just delightful and surprisingly takes a lot of care in adapting these arthurian characters. It can only be found in Italian, French and German for now.
Merlin (1980) - if you really love Merlin and you do not mind taking a step back (before) the classic arthurian stories, then this 13 episodes show is probably something you will enjoy! It revolves around Merlin's childhood at court. Only in German.
The Boy Merlin - Otherwise this is also an English tv show about young Merlin! With the appearance of arthurian characters as guests here and there!
The Campaign for Camelot - And to conclude the arthurian section, if you want to watch a cute webseries about Mordred as a college student (falling in love with a guy!) then please check out this 78 short episodes series. Lots of amazing characters (arthurian characters) living in modern times and organizing an election. You can watch itΒ here.
And of course, you can find most/all of this and more on the arthurian preservation project page!!
Also, I did not add them to the list because they are super popular, but just in case: Merlin (BBC), Kaamelott, Camelot (Starz), Merlin 1998 miniseries, The Mists of Avalon miniseries, Arthur of the Britons, The Adventurs of Sir Galahad.
Other Queer Shows
Now, for something not arthurian, please keep in mind this is my personal recs and if you want to add other recs for queer tv shows, please do!! I do not watch much tv, and I mainly used to spend my years watching arthurian tv shows and arthurian movies, so I am sure I am missing a lot of good ones.
Here is a list of my absolute favorites!
In order:
Interview with the vampire (continuing next year with The Vampire Lestat), one of the best tv shows I have seen in recent times. The way the show is shot, the use of memories vs what it really happens, Louis' incredible character arc (the actor is probably one of the best actors I have seen), Claudia and her lover - and every single vampire is queer. Mind that there is a lot of blood and violence.
L'arte della Gioia (The Art of Joy) instead is an Italian miniseries (easy to find with English subtitles) about an orphaned girl (Modesta) who lives in a convent. Modesta is bisexual or at least she show love and attraction mainly to women (rarely to men), and through the episodes we see her (often violent) journey to claim what she desires. The show is absolutely excellent, I remember pausing quite often to look at what the scene was trying to tell me.
Agatha all Along. Look, this is mcu/Marvel. Still, I think it is an excellent self contained show. The protagonist (Agatha) is a lesbian in love with death herself (Rio). Through the episodes she will try to reclaim her lost powers by taking a group of witches through a magical road of wishes. If you want to watch this one I recommend watching WandaVision first, or at least reading a summary of it.
Heated Rivalry instead is my current obsession, with the finale coming out in two days. The show follows two hockey players (Shane and Ilya) as they meet young, sleep together and then end up having an 8 years long relationship, trying to hide their real feelings from themselves and each other. Incredible show, high in angst but also quite funny sometimes, and with a happy ending of course. The way the show is edited and shot is amazing. If you heard of this as the "gay hockey must show" (because there are explicit sex scenes) just know that this name does it no justice, this is the "gay hockey smut and yearning sweet romance show". If you want a tv show just about romance, feelings and sweetness, this is it.
My Beautiful Man is probably my favorite BL drama, in this case this is a Japanese BL that adapts a series of novels. Kiyoi and Hira are classmates, Kiyoi the popular beautiful guy and kind of a bully and Hira the shy new student who is desperate for Kiyoi's attention. The show plays with flipping audiences' expectations and using povs of character to really reveal what is happening in the lives of the two protagonists. Very sweet, with a great happy ending.
Pluribus is instead a still ongoing show but it has been renewed for season two already. Differently from the previous ones, this one is more of a mystery/thriller (is this even the term?) about an infection that turns the whole world into a hivemind - apart from our protagonist Carol, who is a lesbian in a secret relationship and writing romance books for her big fanbase. The show also touches themes of past abuse and grief.
Black Sails IS MY FAVORITE TV SHOW EVER. This is what, in my opinion, every show should be and have: queer protagonists (both the main character and multiple other characters are queer), good romances (especially Anne and Max), adventure, characters trying to outsmart each other, incredible colors, amazing dialogue - please if you have not watched Black Sails, watch it! It will change your life! Keep in mind that especially in season one there are scenes of sexual violence. In general there is violence and blood on the show as it is about pirates.
In the Flesh was instead cancelled, but I still think it is an enjoyable tv show to watch even if incomplete. The protagonist is a gay man who returns to life after death: as a zombie. The whole show revolves around zombies being rehabilitated and returning to society and the stigma that that carries.
Sense8 is here because I remember loving it a lot when it came out. I admit I barely remember anything now so I hope it SURVIVES THE TIME TEST!
Orphan Black is instead another of my favorite tv show. This show is pretty long, and I do think the last two seasons were a bit too convoluted, but it is still excellent to watch. In particular the lead actress is masterful as she plays multiple characters, all clones of each other. The show is more of a thriller adventure one, and one of the clones is a lesbian in a relationship with a woman.
She-Ra is the only animated show I added here, but definitely not the only animated show with queer characters. Still, the reason why I enjoyed it so much is that the romance is a rare wlw enemies to lovers who will take you completely by surprise if you go in blind (well... if you are reading this... you won't be taken by surprise). Also the show will soon leave Netflix, which means that will be only be available if pirated. Pirate it!
Strange Empire is my guilty pleasure. Is this show amazing? Probably not. Is it shot well? Also probably not. But is it entertaining? Yes. Seeing a group of queer women in the wild west? Yes please. I love it.
Due to its surprising popularity on the many places it's been posted and reposted to, I decided to finally complete this little wlw sketch that I had kind of given up on. I'm hoping to have it riso printed soon !

One of the oldest stories of King Arthur is found in The Dream of Rhonabwy, in the Mabinogion. While Rhonabwy sleeps, he has a vision of Arthur playing chess against his follower, Owain, to the backdrop of the Battle of Badon.
Neither player wins, however, with Arthur throwing a temper tantrum and smashing the board before the game is complete! Rhonabwy eventually awakes, to find he has been sleeping solidly for three days.

The making of Carn Cabal in Builth. And it was called Carn Cabal because, when Arthur was a-hunting Twrch Trwyth and his hound Cavall left a footprint on a stone, Arthur gathered a mound of stones and placed the imprinted stone upon it. When a man takes this stone from its place and carry it as far as he can, the next day it will be found on the mound again.
The making of Lygad Amr in Ergyng. And it is said that on the day Arthur slew his son Amr, he had him buried in this fabulous tomb. And men come to measure the grave and find it sometimes six feet in length, sometimes nine, sometimes twelve, sometimes fifteen. At whatever length a man might measure it at one time, it will not have the same length in another.
Afon Tyfeidiad. When the brothers of Gwenhwyfar ferch Gogfran Gawr were imprisoned by the Giants of Bron Wrgan, Arthur chased the giants to their abode and slew them. On his way to Knucklas Castle, Arthur then took the head of the largest of them and threw it into a river. And as he placed his foot on the head of the giant in stepping across the river Arthur said, "Let the head grow (tyfed yr iad) in the river instead of a stone". And henceforth that river was called Afon Tyfeidiad, as the side of the giant's head grew.
