born very poor in the kingdom of hearts
was kind of a tomboy in the way that she never really dreamed about being a princess and was always getting into trouble
she’d get into a lot of fights with kids at school and has always been pretty strong physically; even now though she’s still pretty small, considering
she learned martial arts as a kid so she’s been able to hold her own and excel strength wise
her best friend is heon and they’ve been friends since they were very little!! ( probably was in love with her sigh )
nari didn’t want to be separated from her because that’s her bff4lyf so when she found out that heon is a princess and would be moving to the palace one day, she decided she would become her private knight so they could be together always
volunteered for knighthood when she was thirteen, trained really hard. and moved up pretty easily but when she applied to be a private knight she was denied
nari becomes a first class knight
finally nari looks for answers in her father’s journal that he left her after he died and she finds out that not only is she of noble birth, but her dad was an elite knight that was sent to spy on her mother
when he was ordered to take her out they fled
they went into hiding in the hearts kingdom and used information to blackmail the thrown into letting them live their life peacefully but that meant nari could never become a princess or serve as an elite/private knight
so nari’s kind of stuck in this reality where everything has been decided for her and all of her choices now are locked
she wants to prove herself loyal though and is sticking it out for heon </3 maybe so finally she can be her private knight

within the palace, nari knows every weakness and strength of the castle but accompanying princesses and princes on duties cross countries, has always made her nervous, especially on the random off chance that she’s with a first tiered princess. she has never had to accompany princess eunae anywhere but because the princess’ own private knight cannot, ( she doesn’t ask why, it’s not relevant to her job ) nari is chosen to fill in.
she’s not sure if it is a good or a bad thing that her superiors recommended her for the job. maybe if she could prove herself worthy of being a private knight for eunae on just this day, she would be another step closer to promotion.
however, nari doesn’t believe it’s so. she somehow knows that this assignment is just because she could be spared.
she follows princess eunae around like a shadow, doing what she’s told and only talking when it’s necessary or eunae breaks the silence first. truthfully she’s not sure how she feels about the princess personally but none of her own feelings will influence how she does her work-- after all, she is loyal to the crown, the kingdom of hearts, and eunae is a piece of that.
“princess, did you plan to say here for the night?” she wonders looking at her watch, an heirloom from her father, remaining stiff and almost robotic -- nari’s knight self is so different than how she is off duty. “it’s getting kind of late. if you wanted to head back, we should do so now or find accommodations. don’t you think?”
she’d spent all day setting up for their night together, even going as far as to build them a little pillow fort, a few of heon’s special baked goods. she picked out all of their old favorite movies with her little projector stationed at the wall. and her smile only bloomed for her when she walked through her door both of them stopping in time for a moment before heon ran full speed to her forever love, arms wrapping around nari’s small frame, the princess having to hold her tears back with all her strength.
“i’m so happy to see you.” she choked out softly.
nari notices the tears that start to build up in heon’s eyes, giving her a soft smile. “why do you look like you’re about to cry?” nari wonders, pushing heon’s hair from her face before she pulls her in for another strong hug, squeezing her best friend’s tiny frame. “it’s just me.” nari feels a tug on her heart as well that’s made especially worse when she sees the glassy film over heon’s gaze. one can grow up a little too fast in this world. for nari, it was when she was thirteen and began her training, for heon, it was the moment she realized what it meant to be a princess.
“listen, we’ll have the whole night together and i can probably get away with staying up late and having a bit of a late start tomorrow.” nari smiles as she sets down her things, revealing a comfy outfit for a night spent lounging, snacking, and sharing thoughts and secrets. “i do have to report tomorrow but don’t worry, i’m a favorite, i can get away with it,” nari tells her as she gives heon a silly wink as she pulls out all the snacks and starts munching on some chips.
“oh, you made stuff?” she says surprised. “what movie should we watch first?”

a simple envelope arrives at your room, so nondescript you may wonder if it’s actually meant for you — until you notice your name written on the front in black, cursive letters. there is no sender but the envelope has been closed shut with a wax seal you know to be from THE SEER. it seems you have a message of upmost importance... but will you open it?
"you’ve failed to greet a highly regarded royal advisor properly and he is now berating you in front of all the other royals who are around. do you a) remain silent and take everything he has to say or b) hold your ground and talk back to him?”
nari finds the letter, holding it up as if to check authenticity before she realizes she's no sleuth, even if she is a knight. when she breaks the seal, she feels some nerves crawl through her skin as though eyes are piercing into her back watching her every breath and movement. nari thinks hard about the question, wondering which she would actually do in the moment and which sounds best on paper.
"i would show loyalty," she writes, neat cursive beginning to line the paper. "i serve all royals, no matter the title or position. there would be no reason for me to talk back or hold my ground if i understand my place correctly. it is my job to respect and care for everyone in the palace and to happen into a mistake like this, i feel like i would deserve the punishment of being berated. i wouldn't enjoy it but there's no other choice. i have to choose his honor over mine."
as for what she would really do, she takes time to wonder herself.
sometimes nari roams the halls of the castle and day dreams about what it would be like to be a princess. the smallest part of her wants to know what it would feel like to be important, to be waited on hand and foot. she wishes that people would turn to listen when she cleared her throat to speak or give her the faintest amount of attention when she has something to say. perhaps, if she was an elite knight like her father, she’d have a little more ability to choose and at least her opinions would matter.
being a first class knight isn’t bad. you’re never really thrust into danger or made to lie or kill anyone, unless the circumstances called for it. but it was a lot of patrolling, escorting, attending to royals like waitstaff. at least if she were a private knight, she’d only have to be that for one and if it was heon, she’d have no problems doing so. there was a little more freedom however, more time off in shifts rather than working big assignments or constantly having to be on edge.
nari walks down a familiar hallway, knocking a few times before opening the door. “princess,” she says with a smile, wrapping her arms around heon’s small waist and placing a kiss on her cheek. “are you ready to have a night of fun? i brought candy and movies... the whole works really.” nari pauses to look into her friends eyes and heave a happy sigh. “feels like forever since we did this, i’m so happy i’m here. what should we do first?”
have you heard? there was heavy smoke seen billowing from the seer’s tower. not long after that, the carriage of the seer was seen leaving the gates of the country. it seems they have an urgent message to deliver personally.
