If you’ve been in the hair care community for a while, you’ve probably heard of styling products such as mousses and gels. Although they line the shelves at many beauty stores—what exactly do they do?

Mousses

When it comes to hair care, the term “mousse” doesn’t refer to the yummy whipped desert, but rather a type of product to style your hair.

Mousses have a very light feeling, and are designed to be used at the end of your routine to lock-in moisture and retain a style.

Gels

Despite their unique texture, gels have a very distinct role when it comes to hair care. They can be used to make curls more defined or help you achieve that perfect slicked-back look. They tend to dry a little stiff, and are great for keeping your style looking a certain way for days.

Creams

Thank you so much for asking! I had to do a little bit of research for this one, as I am not entirely too familiar with curl jellies.

Curl jellies and gel are very similar, but a key difference between the two is that curl jellies are made specifically for reducing frizz.

Curl jellies are intended to be distributed throughout the hair, preferably after it’s been washed, to give your curls a more “defined” and frizz-free look. You can get the same result using a good gel as well, so it really comes down to personal preference.

Gels are not only used for reducing frizz, but also for hair styling. Not every gel is designed for curly hair, though, and some hair gels are not intended to be distributed throughout your hair.

For example, if you want to achieve a slicked-back look on your hair, you can use a gel designed for that purpose. If you want a gel best designed for reducing frizz, I’d recommend Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed Curling Gel.

I’m happy to answer this question! I would say that a durag is more commonly used by people with shorter hair in order to protect their hair from damage. A lot of men use it to get a hairstyle commonly known as “waves”, which gives the hair a very smooth-looking texture.

A bonnet, on the other hand, is more commonly used by people with longer hair in order to protect their hair from damage. Bonnets come in different sizes depending on how much hair the user has.

Both bonnets and durags are often worn during the nighttime, but some people also wear them around or outside of their house as well.

Additionally, a durag tends to be replaceable with a bonnet, but not the other way around. Bonnets have an elastic band in the seam made to fit around the head, whereas durags are much smaller and less flexible.

If you’re looking for something to wear during the nighttime in order to protect your hair from damage, I’d definitely suggest investing in a bonnet.

Anyways, greasy hair is sort of on the opposite end if the spectrum when it comes to hair problems. If you see your hair becoming excessively oily or greasy, then you’ll hopefully find some of these tips to be very beneficial.

Lifestyle Changes

The easiest way to eliminate greasy hair is to make some simple changes in your lifestyle. The number one reason that I find causes greasy hair is exercise.

When you exercise, a lot of sweat and dirt can build up in the area around your forehead and scalp. This can give your hair the appearance of being greasy at times. Now, of course, the solution is not to stop exercising. Rather, it’s better to start increasing the frequency of your shampoo routine, which leads into my next point.

Shampoo More Frequently

If you find that your hair gets greasy without any significant influences, it may be a sign to increase how often you have wash day routines.

Different types of hair require different frequencies jn shampooing. For example, someone with damaged hair, someone with dyed hair, and someone with extremely curly hair will all have specific needs rhat influence their hair care routine. A general rule of thumb in the curly hair community is that the tighter your curl pattern, the less often you should shampoo your hair. Remember, this changes on a case-by-case basis, so it’s best to experiment and find what works for you.

Using Less Products

Another common cause of greasy hair is using excessive amounts of products. In particular, heavy products (gel, conditioner, creams) tend to be a lot more intense on your hair when compared to lighter products (such as a mousse).

If you find that you have a lot of product buildup in your hair whenever you try to wash it, then that’s probably a sign that you need to try cutting down on the amount of products you use in general.
