I've been thinking about this ship lately since I saw this, and I love it more and more. I'm becoming obsessed.
They would NEVER get a happy ending. It would be so tragic it hurts.
#Hurt no comfort #Yearning #Major Character Death All the good tags.
Because in every universe, they could never be together.
The Velaryons would never allow him to choose any bride other than Baela. It is the price for his legimacy, the debt his mother owes.
Just as Otto Hightower would secure the most advantageous match the Hand of the King could find for his daughter. She would forever belong to another man. Alicent was always meant to be a queen, just not his.
And don’t even get me started on Baela. She cannot be like her parents, indulging in love, choosing whom she desires.
She was raised to be a queen, Jace’s queen.
She was told she could reclaim what had been taken from her grandmother. She loves Rhaenys, and she wants to do right by her, she wants to make her proud.
She even loves Jace. just… not like that.
And she does want to be Queen. She wants the crown. The power. Love. But she realizes she cannot have it all, and she wants it all, and it is not fair.
so you have this miserable little trio.
Jace, yearning for a woman he can only watch from a distance. Sometimes resenting his circumstances.
Alicent, trapped in a betrothal to another, stealing fragments of a life with Jace in the shadows.
Baela, destined for a crown she wants, but not the husband that comes with it, now her own heart belonging to someone else she can’t have.
And they are all miserable in the end, because this is the Asoiaf world, and happy endings don’t exist.
In the end, they are never able to indulge their own hearts because they are too busy paying for the sins of their parents, who indulged their desires without a thought for the consequences. Now the children are left to clean up the mess, to mend the cracks with the shattered pieces of their own wants.
In the end, even when they did what duty demanded of them... it was all for nothing.
There would never be songs about Jacaerys and Alicent. Because it was always a secret. The only thing she could ever have of him were stolen moments in the dark, and the memory of the one, single time they had the chance and dared to dance together. Nothing else. Nothing more.
To make things worse. Of the three, two are dead and one lives on, always bitter, full of rage and sadness. With no crown, no grandmother, and no dragon.
And it's not fair. Nothing is fair.
(i would read a 500k word fic of this and cry for them the entire time. that is all.)
