Note: this post isn't meant to invalidate or attack anyone's personal concept or beliefs. This is simply me putting a name to an idea I've seen floating around and think more people should know about! This also isn't a roleplay concept, but rather a spiritual practice.

Alright, I’m saying it:

If you’re spending more time and energy workshopping a concept instead of actual work and practice, you’re missing the point of being a magical hero.

I know the aesthetics are awesome and it’s nice to have things tied up in a neat little bow from the get-go but I’ve seen so many fledgling magical girls get so indecisive and frustrated about curating a concept that they never actually get to any magical work.

This might be a very unpopular opinion but let your practice inform your concept. More often than not, you just won’t know what tools or spiritual guides you’ll need until you throw yourself into magical practice. Allow your interests, hobbies, and the ways you connect to the world reveal to you more about your magical self; let things alter your magical self to adapt to the changes in your life. It is okay to change course in response to new knowledge and experiences!

If you’re struggling with how to get started, try devoting some time everyday to bettering the world around you in little ways and try some silent meditation—just 10 or 15 minutes is great. After a week or so, increase the time to 20 minutes and maybe practice some visualization techniques. Increase the amount of time you sit for meditation gradually and get comfortable with getting into state before jumping headfirst into astral projection or bilocation.

I know the prospect of being a magical hero is exciting and it can be incredibly frustrating when you can’t get the exact information you’re seeking but please refrain from taking it out on folks who are just trying to help or are pointing you in the right direction.

Many times with occult resources—particularly esoteric texts—certain rituals and techniques will not be revealed in full. Even when you find something with complete ABC’s, another magician’s materials may not yield the same results or any for you. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing anything wrong though: some things just need time, patience, and a lot of practice! I guarantee you will not get significant results if you try to take shortcuts or rush through things.

this post is going to be a bit more of a ramble than my usual, but i will try to be concise!

As magical heroes, we work to serve others and the world. We do all we can to spread positivity.

This goal is valiant! And one that I, myself, have obviously undertaken!

Despite how lovely of a goal this is, living to serve others can very well lead to you running out of energy when it comes to serving yourself.

Burnout is a horrid thing, and I wish for nobody in this community to drive themselves into that state. It can even lead to you needing to neglect your magical duties, as it puts you into a “survival mode” where your brain does what it can to keep you getting through the day.

Taking care of yourself will always be the most important thing for you, as a magical hero, to do. You cannot save others if you cannot even take the time to help yourself.

Do what you can to eliminate stressors. Take the time to clean up your space. Take a bath. Get a massage. Turn off your phone for a weekend and watch old childhood movies and just relax.

Take the time to recuperate. You deserve it. Your willingness and dedication to the improvement of this world shows that.
