this post is going to be a bit more of a ramble than my usual, but i will try to be concise!

As magical heroes, we work to serve others and the world. We do all we can to spread positivity.

This goal is valiant! And one that I, myself, have obviously undertaken!

Despite how lovely of a goal this is, living to serve others can very well lead to you running out of energy when it comes to serving yourself.

Burnout is a horrid thing, and I wish for nobody in this community to drive themselves into that state. It can even lead to you needing to neglect your magical duties, as it puts you into a “survival mode” where your brain does what it can to keep you getting through the day.

Taking care of yourself will always be the most important thing for you, as a magical hero, to do. You cannot save others if you cannot even take the time to help yourself.

Do what you can to eliminate stressors. Take the time to clean up your space. Take a bath. Get a massage. Turn off your phone for a weekend and watch old childhood movies and just relax.

Take the time to recuperate. You deserve it. Your willingness and dedication to the improvement of this world shows that.

I have frequently seen around people asking about how to tell your friends or family about your magical hero-ing. A lot of people don’t know where to start! I am here to help! In this post I will walk you through identifying whether or not to tell someone, and then how to break the news!

To start with- you have to make sure this person is receptive to the idea!

I would recommend testing the waters first! Start with witchcraft as a topic, it’s fairly popular spiritually and not too scary of a conversation topic to breach! If they aren’t receptive to basic witchcraft they certainly won’t be able to handle the concept of magical heroes.

You can ask them how they feel about witchcraft, you could say you have picked up a hobby in reading tarot and ask if they want a reading, etc! however feels most natural to you!

If this person seems accepting and excited about the idea of witchcraft, you’re free to move onto step two of this waters-testing process!

If this person expresses negative thoughts about witchcraft or are disinterested, they likely will not understand, nor may that person *want* to understand.

Next thing to check with is the idea of astral projection

In my opinion, if someone understands or enjoys the idea of astral projection, they can understand the idea of being a magical girl.

If they respect both of these ideas, they are already halfway there to respecting the idea of magical heroes. It will not be a far jump from one concept to another.

Now, knowing they are receptive to the concepts behind magical heroes, you only have to tell them!

There are many ways to go about this. Here are a few methods of sharing:

Tell it to them straight

“I have recently joined a new spiritual craft. It takes a lot of inspiration from magical girl media.”

No bells and whistles, just plain honesty. Explain to them what you do as a magical hero, and why you take part in this craft.

Test the waters a tad bit further

“I found this honestly… really cool community on tumblr. It sounds a bit silly at first but it seems like they genuinely just spread positive energy wherever they go. I respect it hugely!”

If they seem to like the idea, you can go on to say you’re thinking of joining in, watch for their reactions! Who knows, they may even want to join in too.

this is a less honest form of breaking the news, but it’s very safe. very little risk of embarrassment or damage to your friendship.

Invite them into your practice!

“Hey, I’ve been astrally taking care of some manifestations of negativity that affect people, do you want to help out sometime?”

This method is for already practicing witches, not for newbies or complete outsiders to the community. Do not invite those who don’t even know how to spiritually protect themselves.

This can really work for some, as the draw of community and working with a friend will always soften the blow! Just make sure to prepare them well before jumping straight in!

Some of you all may have seen around the words “IRL Magical Girl” or “Magical Boy” or “Magical Hero” being thrown around online. What does this mean? How can you get in on it? This post will walk you through exactly what real life magical heroes are and where to start looking when it comes to becoming one yourself!

in this post I will be referring to all magical girls, boys, and heroes as “magical heroes” overall. This word may not fit you perfectly, think of it as a wide umbrella term!

When wondering about magical heroes, one must start with the original genre’s ideas and concepts:

The Magical Girl genre as a whole features cute girls who are granted magical powers through some means, usually through a guide or magical companion, and they use their powers to fight forces that cause negativity and harm in one way or another.

There are many interpretations of the genre, and not all will fit in this definition perfectly.

Magical girls will usually have some sort of transformation which will hide their identity, Usagi becomes Sailor Moon, Ahiru becomes Princess Tutu, etc. They will live double lives, carrying out their regular day-to-day identity and taking care of threats as their magical persona in secret.

Keep in mind these genre conventions going forward, as it informs magical hero practices as a whole!

So how do magical heroes work in real life? Can you really change into a big poofy skirt in a flash of light and are there really giant monsters attacking people?

This depends on your interpretation of reality, I suppose! At the very least I can say, not on this plane of existence. Real life magical heroes, for the most part, use astral projection and a sort of energy work to banish manifestations of negative energy (which will usually take the shape of monstrous creatures) which affect our reality.

Magical transformations, changing into your magical persona, usually happen during the process of astral projection.

so what is astral projection anyways?

it is a purposeful, generally self-induced, out-of-body experience. you induce this by sending your consciousness to your astral body, which allows you to travel around in the astral plane.

the astral plane is a sort of reality that is inhabited by immaterial beings, such as spirits, or the manifestations of emotions and energies.

astral projection is generally achieved through meditation and self-hypnosis. it is used in many spiritual practices for a multitude of different purposes.

so, to put all of these concepts together:

real life magical heroes use astral projection to transform into their magical personas, occasionally forming a contract with a spirit or familiar to help them in their projection, and in the astral realm they fight manifestations of negative energy that may cause the general populace harm.

please keep in mind that being a magical hero is a form of spiritual practice. I would recommend reading up on the basics of witchcraft before starting. having an understanding of spiritual protection is a MUST. grounding is an amazing skill to learn as well, and if you have any drive to develop your intuition it will only help you during your travels.

how do I become a magical hero?!

learn how to protect yourself, learn grounding, develop your intuition (optional), learn how to do energy work in this plane of reality, THEN learn how to astral project.

Once you have learned to astral project you must learn how to control your astral body, tie your magical transformation to your astral body, and, if you feel it is necessary, make a contract with a spirit for familiar.

protection is very important in any contracts you may make, as you can be tricked. be very careful, and if you need any advice or help, do not be scared to reach out.

now that you have the preliminary setup done, now you may begin to seek out these manifestations, or “monsters” some may call them. this is when you use your energy work that you learned and developed into your magical attacks. take down and release the negative energy, allow it to disperse.

this is a very simplified version of this process, please do not attempt to become a magical hero with this teensy little instructional bit. do your research.

I am fairly new to being a magical girl, about a month and a half as of creating this post. I am still learning, though I do feel I can speak on a lot of magical hero-ing topics, as…

I have a long, storied background in witchcraft, specifically energy work and divination! I have spent a lot of time with other avenues but energy work and divination have always been my focus.

I have done some heavy rituals in my time, have undergone spiritual and astral transformation, and far more. I have over eight years of intensive experience at this point, and had lightly practiced with my mother throughout my childhood.

I have even worked professionally doing energy clearing, banishments, and divining.
