"Do not maintag content that contains this ship of my character with someone else. Do not bring it up in my chat, or tag us, or in other ways force us to see it" <- Good boundary, should always be respected
"You are not allowed to make any content containing this ship even if you do it in private communities. I will have people who search out and report back if you do it in secret and I will ban you" <- Controlling rule. Fuck that. Anne Rice tried that BS in the early 2000s.

Regarding the recent discourse, I just wanted to say that I have been in fandom for a long time, been in multiple fandoms, and MCYT has the weirdest relationship to content creators that I have ever seen.
It is strange to me, that fans so easily accept being told what they can and can’t create in fan spaces.
The right to create fanfic was something that fans had to fight hard for. The right to create works that wasn’t Brand Approved. If the creators of any other fandom tried to police what fan works were created, they would either be flat out ignored or there would be riots.
Fandom is our house. We have been living here for much longer than these CCs have been online. Fandom etiquette, the rules of fandom, have existed longer than their fandoms have.
If they want to be here, that’s unusual, but that’s okay. Fandom is welcome to anyone. But they don’t seem to want to be here, just like anyone else. They act like the rules don’t apply to them, or worse, that they make the rules like it’s their house.
And we shouldn’t let them. Please, please, listen to me. This is not just about shipping. This is about not allowing this to become the accepted new normal.
Because if we accept that it’s okay a creator can ban all fanworks of their character being in romantic relationships, what else will we accept? Think about what other kinds of content have been and still are being banned in certain libraries around the world.
Creators can control their own spaces. Their streams, their official discord servers. But not what we do in our own home.
>First, we’ve discovered that about a quarter of all the internet connection in or out of the house were ad related. In a few hours, that’s about 10,000 out of 40,000 processed.
>We also discovered that every link on Twitter was blocked. This was solved by whitelisting the https://t.co domain.
>Once out browsing the Web, everything is loading pretty much instantly. It turns out most of that Page Loading malarkey we’ve been accustomed to is related to sites running auctions to sell Ad space to show you before the page loads. All gone now.
>We then found that the Samsung TV (which I really like) is very fond of yapping all about itself to Samsung HQ. All stopped now. No sign of any breakages in its function, so I’m happy enough with that.
>The primary source of distress came from the habitual Lemmings player in the house, who found they could no longer watch ads to build up their in-app gold. A workaround is being considered for this.
>The next ambition is to advance the Ad blocking so that it seamlessly removed YouTube Ads. This is the subject of ongoing research, and tinkering continues. All in all, a very successful experiment.
>Certainly this exceeds my equivalent childhood project of disassembling and assembling our rotary dial telephone. A project whose only utility was finding out how to make the phone ring when nobody was calling.
>Update: All4 on the telly appears not to have any ads any more. Goodbye Arnold Clarke!
>Lemmings problem now solved.
>Can confirm, after small tests, that RTÉ Player ads are now gone and the player on the phone is now just delivering swift, ad free streams at first click.
>Some queries along the lines of “Are you not stealing the internet?” Firstly, this is my network, so I may set it up as I please (or, you know, my son can do it and I can give him a stupid thumbs up in response). But there is a wider question, based on the ads=internet model.
>I’m afraid I passed the You Wouldn’t Download A Car point back when I first installed ad-blocking plug-ins on a browser. But consider my chatty TV. Individual consumer choice is not the method of addressing pervasive commercial surveillance.
>Should I feel morally obliged not to mute the TV when the ads come on? No, this is a standing tension- a clash of interests. But I think my interest in my family not being under intrusive or covert surveillance at home is superior to the ad company’s wish to profile them.
>Aside: 24 hours of Pi Hole stats suggests that Samsung TVs are very chatty. 14,170 chats a day.
>YouTube blocking seems difficult, as the ads usually come from the same domain as the videos. Haven’t tried it, but all of the content can also be delivered from a no-cookies version of the YouTube domain, which doesn’t have the ads. I have asked my son to poke at that idea.
Seriously, get and run PiHole if you can. It changes your internet experience so much for the better. I get shocked when I visit a website when I'm someone else's network, by just how many ads the internet is flooded with now. Take back control.
okay real talk I'm just gonna say it. hate me if you want i dont fucking care. pyro (and maddy ftr) royally fucked up on this one
the concept of "boundaries" have been being weaponized by content creators against their fans for years now. it was the most prevalent and wild in the case of, like, dream smp (I wasn't there but I've been around, I know)
a "boundary" is not a rule that you set to enforce on other people.
what a "boundary" should be: if you make this thing, I will not look at it. I will block it. I do not want to see it, and if you put it in my face (i.e. dms, discord, twitch chat, etc) it will be removed.
you cannot go around trying to enforce a ruleset onto your fandom, especially when a huge majority of said fandom is literally ONLY HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE OF THE THING YOU ARE NOW ATTEMPTING TO OUTRIGHT BAN.
it is not enforceable. you are not a fucking cop. you're a guy on the fucking internet, who has cultivated a fanbase with a significant focus already put upon the exact kind of stuff you're now claiming makes people "wrong and evil" if they dare support, much less contribute to. the only legitimate form of "enforcement" here is TARGETED HARASSMENT CAMPAIGNS. DOXXING. AND LITERAL THREATS. and for the love of GOD. I hope I do not need to explain why that is BAD.
I hate to bring out the dead horse again, but I'm feeling like it's gotta be said: is this not the exact type of bullshit that A & M tried to pull too. "My boundary is that you are not allowed to do x and y thing, and if you do you're evil and horrible too and I am going to tell everyone I know about how evil and horrible you are." I truly hope to fucking god it is not going to be that bad but. fuck man. We've passed a line at this point and I'm putting the fucking hazard lights on RIGHT NOW.

I know that there is a lot of young people in the mcyt fandom, who have not developed and learned how to pick apart texts and notice specific things in them yet. So, because of recent stuff and the words "boundaries", "rules" and "censorship" being thrown around like candy, here's someone who has these skills (me) going through Millkberrys and Pyroscythes statements.
(TW for death, rape and sa threats, mention of sh and harassment, use of the r-slur)
First off, the actual official definitions of the words:
(The first one is from wikipedia, the other two from the Cambridge dictionary, you can look them up if you'd like full confirmation on the sources.)
(notable, fan works such as fanart, fanfiction and headcanons or shitposts are considered a work of art and/or kind of communication with other fans.)
(notable #2, the ideas people are allowed to express and the certain ideas that are included or supported in this case is the shipping of the creators characters.)
(notable #3, content creators / mcyts are minor celebrities and with that have authority over their fan communitys. If you disagree, feel free to block me, I will not be arguing over this.)
And now, me marking/highligthing things in the statements that fit those definitions/descriptions:
What's a boundary or implies one is marked with green.
What's not a boundary is marked with yellow.
What's a rule or implies a rule is marked with blue.
What's censorship is marked red.
I want it to be noted that the only times boundaries are implied or mentioned by either of them, is the word, regarding that this is for Millkberrys mental health or when the actual act of setting boundaries is dismissed (as a past action or entirely).
This is not to mention Pyroscythes literal thread of harassment and policing people, which has already taken action through other fans putting death and rape threads in peoples ask boxes:
(If any of the victims of the threats want me to take them out of this, feel free to tell me and I will do so!)
Apparently one of Pyroscythes mods claimed on Twitter that it was meant as a joke. However, considering the very serious nature of both the stream segment and his expression as well as the fact that it came from a mod and Pyroscythe has yet to actually say anything on this themself, I'm inclined to not believe it.
Lastly, my opinion on this:
Harassment is never okay and no matter how many times these creators have said in the past that they don't endorse it, reality is looking different right now. You cannot tell your large audience what Pyroscythe has told his and expect it not to listen to you, no matter if it was meant as a joke or not.
This is not a boundary, it is a rule at minimum and censorship at worse. Censorship is rampant right now and fandom spaces are some of the few spaces that allow free expression, trying to take that away is not okay. If you cannot handle seeing ship content of your characters, then you should block people who do make art of it, block the shipping tags and not go out of your way to look for it. You can ask people not to show that art to you, and that is completely valid. It is also completely valid to ban people from Stream chats and discords if they do show it to you. It is not valid to tell people what kind of art they can and cannot create however. And if you can't handle the idea of ship content of your characters existing at all, then maybe you should rethink your career choice as a content creator who focuses on roleplay and character creation.

overall though, I'm definitely rotating the fact that a lot of US public education emphasizes a method of learning to read that relies heavily on the context of "what it is likely that the text says" rather than looking at what the text does say and then understanding/interpreting it. like.
1. explains so much about written communication especially online, truly, as many have observed, but also
2. LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS. I BET THIS IS WHY PEOPLE THINK LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS ARE NORMAL. I BET THIS IS WHY PEOPLE THINK "MACHINE THAT ANALYZES WHAT IS STATISTICALLY LIKELY TO BE SAID IN THIS SPECIFIC CONTEXT AND THEN SAYS THAT" IS A NORMAL AND NOT SCARY THING. OH MY GOD I FEEL LIKE I UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING NOW
also, i know this might sound corny but like.... please be nice to other people online. not even trying to say this in a like a, 'oh because you never know what they might be going throughhhh' kind of way just like. be nice man. stop hate following along with things. be more patient with strangers. stop trying to get off cunty one liners for your five seconds of smirking like a dreamworks poster protag.
ive said it before but as a tool and a 'place', i really love the internet, genuinely. i dont like the resignation that it has to be, and stay, a place thats full of misery and fighting. ive met a lot of really wonderful people here, and i think we could all have a nice time together if everyone did their part to make it so that was possible. im not speaking down to you as someone whos never made these mistakes, im asking as someone whos also made them alongside you.
