A little bit of a cowboy gasper au I started
The train to the west was shaky, and small, and loud. Guy has grown weary of his travelling, always surrounded by way too many people for the small boxes of each wagon. What made it worse, he hadn't received his advance, bound to travelling lowest class and with many very kind but also quite stuffy ladies who faintly smelled of age and mildew. Not that they weren't very sweet.
He was getting nauseous now, the air whooshing past behind the window looked oh so crisp, he would die for just a bit. Snaking his hand around a napping gentleman to his right, Guy tugged on the lever on the side, cracking the window open. A sigh of relief left his chest as fresh, warm air trickled through that crack into the wagon. The gentleman beside him stirred but didn't wake. Guy, finally relieved from shallow breathing, felt himself slip into this dreamless vigilant slumber as well. His irises - alive with movement, darting side to side behind thin eyelids.
An amount of time later, which he would find out was about two hours, the train finally arrived at his station. A small town in Texas, one with just a few respectable inns and a stark absence of reliable lawmen. That was what he was sent there for, bringing the law to the people. A fresh graduate, his degree was in his suitcase, polished and unwrinkled, neatly filed away and snug with the lid.
Stepping out on the station, Guy wasn't surprised to be greeted with clamour, not directed at him of course. Nobody would have met him since , well, no-one in the town quite knew him yet. Signed to this law firm in the east, he was given a selection of books about this town and its advantageous position and swiftly sent over. His superiors didn't have to mention that nobody would be waiting– it was a given.
So he headed out to the only inn he considered respectable enough to stay at and the only one that wouldn't eat through his allowance before the check would come in the mail. Lugging his suitcase halfway across the town he got a chance to admire the architecture. It was different from New York, similarly polished and new but the atmosphere was different. Wooden frames poked out plastered walls and everything was blending in with the earthy oranges, browns and tans of the desert. It was quite hot, Guy noticed as he brushed away a bead of sweat off of his forehead. He'd have to get a hat somewhere around here, after all most wear hats in the west, right? Guy had only his guidebooks as reference.
