i guess DNI lists do work in the sense that sometimes i see a user with a DNI full of so many crazy specific discourse topics and opinions that i immediately think "this person is extremely exhausting to be around and/or fourteen years old" and lose all desire to follow them. so like. it did its job. in a way.

Tbh I don't understand anyone who denies their favorite character's flaws and acts like they've never done anything wrong when that is like consistently the most interesting part of any character ever

thinking about that episode of my babysitter's a vampire where the vampire nurses held a fake blood drive and honestly i feel like they weren't even villains for that... like they need to drink blood and they're getting it in the most ethical way they can rather than turning or killing people. and they even gave them cookies afterwards. tbh i'd donate my blood to vampires if they were this nice about it
As glad as I am that we are getting into RSA, and I love Rielle and Minajael with all my heart (and i'm super excited to see the others!), a part of me wanted Book 8 to be about Yuu and Grim, or at least have that being the focal point with the tournament as the backdrop. I know that Yuu is a self-insert and their story is supposed to be generic, I think that there is so much that could have been explored with how that could apply to everybody's version of Yuu. There have been several hints scattered throughout their dialogue that they are not taking all of this drama very well at all, I really want it to lead somewhere. I at least hope we have a pivotal role in taking down Crowley and whatever he's plotting and we're not just standing on the sidelines.
Me personally, as an african myself, i think that ruggie being lightskinned makes sense. Not all africans are black, most north africans are white, brown or lightskinned. Also, we know that Rook is from the Sunset Savannah, but hes not dark skinned either, so it prolly is cuz hes north african or has white ancestry (and seein that he speaks french, then he might be from a country france colonized, maybe).
Idk i just feel that ppl always forget abt us africans who are not black, when there are a lot of us too. Africa is a big CONTINENT after all TT, theres ougth to be a lot of variety.
Akskd sorry for the rant, just saw ure post and i couldnt help myself, forgive me if i came off as rude, english isnt my 1st language.
AHHHHHHH NO UR GOOD! You didn't come off as rude at all! I am also half African myself so I know how it feels when people try to erase representation. I just hate when people think that just because somebody has lighter skin automatically means they're white. That is why it is especially important that there are characters like Rook that can be african but aren't necessarily black and Ruggie who is black but is lightskin. Representation is everything!! Even in Sub-Saharan Africa, there are black people who can be very light and even look just like Ruggie except for the hyena tail and ears, I have seen it for myself! Africa is such a diverse continent and, intentional or not, I am glad twst showed us that with Rook, Ruggie, and Leona.
Now I can see him being mixed and I can totally get behind it. Personally, I actually think he's white. To me, he is the equivalent of a white South African. Yes, he was born there, but if you trace his lineage from only a few generations, because of colonization, it comes back to France or something. He also speaks French and even though many Africans do (it's actually one of the most spoken language in Africa!), the dialect is very much European. Now does he maybe have something a little mixed in there? Very likely, since there are very rare instances when someone's DNA is purely just one or two ethnicities, but I feel like it's at most 5%. Of course, that's just my two cents and I understand if people think that he's mixed!

My baby boy is just lightskin also twist probably made him lighter in order to stay away from the 'black people steals for basic stuff' trope since there is currently like 4 or 5 poc characters in the game
IDK WHY I DIDNT SEE THIS ANY SOONER IM SORRY :ccc THANK YOU FOR SENDING THIS!!
But I do think this is an interesting point!!! To be fair, the game already has its fair share of microaggressions (iirc, in the first Fairy Gala Event, they called Kalim, Ruggie, Leona, and Jamil "exotic", the random microaggressions towards beastmen which many do have darker skintones) even the fandom has this weird racism thing going on which is an unfortunate but common thing that happens in fandom spaces. I think it's definitely a possibility that they considered but I am only a little uncertain if that was the intention because they let so many other things slip through the cracks 😭
Warning: A little rant below
But Ruggie will always be black to me and I really hope he gets a hometown event (I feel like his would be so interesting especially if he takes other people along with him because most of the NRC population is so posh but that's another can of worms...) I really want to see his grandma. Even if his grandma looks just as lightskin as him, he will still be black. I just think that since hyenas are literally native to Sub-Saharan Africa, Ruggie is a hyena, which means he is black. I just think it's a little more logical than him being from Brazil (yes I heard somebody say that).
Alexander Brukovach. The most feared but respected warlock of his time. He ruled the magical dimension with his powerful spells, but was notorious for his irresistable hypnotic powers. Kingdom after kingdom fell under his control after erasing corrupt officials. He managed to achieve his goal of bringing peace to the magical world. However, due to his prolonged use of dark magic, he eventually grew mad and purely ego driven. His rage shifted to innocent villages, pillaging and burning the thousands who dared to defy him. Until he was eventually thwarted and sent to the Realm of Shadows to be tortured for 200 years.
After he served his punishment and his reputation in the magical realm was tarnished, he fled to earth in 1984 to find a new life. With enough hard work and astonishing amounts of back-breaking work, he finally managed to secure his own broker company. That isn't without struggle as he continues to learn his way around the mortal realm and discover that redemption isn't as easy as he thinks.
Especially when someone discovers his secret. He can't have that.
Lilla almost suffocates just from the tension in the office. Her eyes dart from the sleek pearl white ceilings and museum gallery of plaques that shine on his wall like gems on a crown. Her heart hiccups with worry, one that painfully nibbles at her bones. The whole time she’s been here, she can’t stop staring at him.
Everything about his appearance is calculated. From his navy blue tailored suit to his chestnut brown dress shoes tapping on the soft ash carpet. Usually, Alexander, her boss, wears a warm smile and a matching set of blue eyes. She isn’t used to his piercing sapphire stare and pensive lips. The clean white light streaks his slicked-back raven hair and bejewels his silver watch. Alexander raises his ivory fingers embellished with silver rings, causing Lilla to flinch.
“A drink?” Alexander finally asks, his warm tone not matching his expression, “I can summon one for you.”
“I’ll do without one, sir.”
He teasingly wiggles his fingers and flashes a grin, “Afraid I’ll put a spell on it?”
“Uh, no, sir.”
“There’s no need to be so tense,” he insists, “Here, let me get you something. It's not coming out of your paycheck.”
Lilla giggles.
“Don’t worry, I’ll also make sure it’s nonalcoholic for your drive home.”
She shakes her head. Although, she can use a cider right about now.
He pouts, “Aw, come on, don’t leave me hanging. I’ll get you a cider. ”
Her eyes widen, “How did you know-”
“Mind reading. It comes with the magic, my dear.”
She shrugs, “Um, I guess some cider would do.”
Alexander snaps his fingers and a glass of apple cider materializes in Lilla’s hand. She tenses up at the cold glass stinging her fingertips.
He leans forward with his elbow on the desk and props his chin onto a hand, “Look, there’s no need to fear me. I’m not gonna turn you into a frog or curse you,” his fingertips spark with crimson, “No punishments here, it’s just a misunderstanding. And like all misunderstandings, we just need some communication to figure out where we went wrong.” He beams a smile, “So just tell me what happened, alright, dear?”
The aching knots in her muscles unravel as she takes a sip from the glass. There is something about his grin that brought her some ease. Perhaps things would be okay. “I suppose it was really by accident,” she answers
He raises a curious eyebrow.
“I had a question for you, sir. About where to submit the documents–”
“Sorry to interrupt, but there’s no need to stay an hour after work for that,” It’s the first time he sounds disappointed and only mildly so, “The due dates aren’t until next week. You could’ve waited tomorrow.”
She bows her head, “I apologize, sir.”
“It’s fine,” he waves a dismissing hand, “Just continue.”
“I went to search for you but I didn’t see you anywhere. Even though everyone had left by then. I decided to head toward the archives.”
She swallows before she continues, “You had disappeared in red smoke.” she murmurs, “Before I could say anything else, you reappeared with a sandwich and coffee in your hand. Right in front of me.”
Alexander snickers, “Teleportation is just a bit faster form of travel. I’ll admit I do that for lunch breaks or when I want something quick to eat. When it’s time to go home, I drive. I have taken a liking to mortal things like cars. They’re quite fun to maneuver.”
She only shuffles her black stilettos.
He frowns at her silence, “Please, feel free to ask questions, it’s a lot of fun for me,” he shrugs and takes a sip of his coffee, “But I suppose it doesn’t matter, as you won’t be remembering any of this.”
Her eyes shoot up at him, “W-What?”
“I’m sorry, dear,” he sighs, “But knowing your boss is a wizard is all too risky. It’ll screw up the workplace dynamics. ”
Her cheeks burn with embarrassment, “We can talk, sir!”
The wizard raises a silencing hand and shakes his head, “Doesn’t count if I already point it out, I’m afraid.” He leans back in his chair, “You could barely hold a conversation with me.”
“I understand you’d like secrecy,” she nervously laughs, “But I would prefer not to have my memory wiped, sir.”
“It wasn’t a question, my dear.”
She stands up immediately, “What?! No way! I’m not letting you-”
“You weren’t dismissed yet.” With a wave of his hand, wisps of crimson push her down to the seat and bind her wrists to the chair's armrests.
She struggles against her restraints. The bonds seem to sear into her skin the more she jerks away, and she eventually gives up. Helplessness seeps into her bones and tremors infect her limbs.
“You're a great woman, Lilla. Really. But I can’t risk this getting out.” He straightens his posture and his casual gaze sharpens, “Now you’re gonna look and listen.” Before she can snap her head away from him, her head is held by some invisible force. Not tight, but firm. Her lips quiver and her pupils are blown wide with fear. “Don’t look at me like that, you do it all the time, no?”
“Please,” she pleads, “Please don’t do this!”
The words plunge into his brain, erupting in fireworks of memories. Scorched kingdoms. Tortured royals. Bloodied armies. Above it all, a sick and wicked sorcerer. His laughs echoing throughout the ends of the dimension, plaguing it with despair and fear.
“Wow,” he chuckles to himself, grounding himself back to reality, “It’s been centuries since I’ve heard someone beg for mercy. Don’t do it again. I’ve finally learned not to like it.”
His eyes focus onto her chestnut gaze. The last bit of resistance in Lilla’s eyes melts at his command. Her muscles soften and her lips shift into a neutral expression. What made Alexander’s hypnosis so powerful, was not the brute force but the gentle yet firm coaxing that carefully influenced her. “You’re going to forget seeing me teleport this evening. There are no wizards. There is no magic. We didn’t have a discussion about my powers, but rather a conversation about tomorrow’s agenda for work. ” Brimming crimson energy envelops his hand, and the white light now bleeds with red luminescence. His voice darkens and he raises his palm, “Deep in your subconscious, tangled within the thoughts that stream in your mind,” he orders, “You will feel a certain dread that crawls along your body-“ There it is again. Old habits die hard, “Just be sure to tread carefully next time, dear.”
His magic trickles into her consciousness, molding her mind to his will. Once he decides he’s satisfied, he snaps his fingers and releases her from his hypnotic spell. The bonds evaporate and her head is released from the hold.
She blinks and shakes her head, “Oh, Mr. Brukovach.”
He nods, “Lilla. How are we doing?”
“Fine, sir,” she scratches her head, “Thank you for giving me a headstart on work for tomorrow. But I also had a question for you.”
He grins, “Ask away.”
She clears his throat, “It’s about the documents. I wanted to ask where I should submit them.”
He smiles, “Just leave them on your cubicle desk. I’ll take them.”
“So..I don’t need to go to the archives?”
“Not at all, my dear.”
“Perfect,” she sighs of relief, “Thanks for everything.”
Alexander glances at his watch, “It’s getting late then. I’ll see you tomorrow?”
She nods, “Yes, sir.” She rises from her seat and with a smile and a wave goodbye, shuts the door behind her. Her footsteps eventually blend in with the still silence of the office building.
The wizard grumbles, “Great. Now I’ll have to cast some warding spells near the archives.”
Suddenly, a throbbing pain explodes in Alexander’s brain. He buries his head into his palms, “Fuck. Not again.” The agony oozes along his nerves. No matter how much cold air he sucks through his gritted teeth or how much he shuts his eyes, it doesn’t go away. The dark shadows consume his vision, paralyzing horrors drilling holes into every crevice of his brain. Then it stops. His heavy breath decrescendos into its normal cadence.
“Guess it was too much” he rubs the bridge of his nose, “Note to self: try not to use mind control.”
