so, like...i don’t really know how to say this because i feel like i’m being mean if i do, but i’m probably going to be moving carlos and being. private, mostly. when it comes to who i write with.

like all of you are brilliant and i love having you on my dash, but there’s a handful of people i know my portrayal of carlos vibes with the most and i don’t want to lead you all on. i’m really sorry, and i feel terrible about doing this, i love following all of you and i love all of you following me, but i don’t want to get your hopes up for anything with this muse of mine is so particular about who he likes. you could still follow me if you wanted to, and i’d love to still have you around, but.

So this isn’t something I’ll force on anyone and mainly applies to @malevlnt‘s Mal, anyway, but it’s still 100% my personal head-canon that Carlos started running with Mal because she’s the one that extended a hand to him. She approached him about it and persuaded him with the fact that people weren’t as likely to mess with him if he’s associated with her. When he was skeptical of her intentions, she basically just shrugged and said that he was smart and resourceful and she thought he could be useful. How that exchange exactly goes isn’t set in stone, but that’s basically what happens; Mal offers him a place with her and covers up the fact that she actually wants to help him with reasons that this arrangement could be beneficial for them both.

And like, yeah, Mal is the apex predator, so sticking with her is a smart move if he wants people to leave him alone (which he does), and honestly, someone seeing value in him like this is a very new thing for him. He’s used to his mother constantly telling him that he’s useless and that the only thing he’s good for is doing chores.

so, cruella definitely wasn’t involved with raising carlos for the first few years of his life because i can’t imagine her caring for a baby, so she pawned him off to jasper and horace for them to deal with instead.

and in turn, jasper often pawned carlos off to horace to deal with. horace is absolutely the one that cared for carlos the most and i have a lot of feelings about that, actually.

#{ ;; phia noises }#of course cruella clearly took carlos back at one point or another #i would assume around three or four?#either way #at a point where she could make use of him #and carlos was young enough that i don't think he really has any memories of those early years of being cared for by those two #and i don't know how involved they would be afterwards #but since he was the main one caring for a very young carlos for the first few years of his life #i like to imagine that he got attached

As much as I don’t like it, I’ve decided that Carlos most likely bullied people on the Isle, specifically after the Core Four are an established group.

He’s clearly having a lot of fun being a little shit right along with them during Rotten to the Core, and I can’t ignore that. As someone who’s spent so long being mistreated by his peers (and his own mother), it probably feels good to be able to do it back. He didn’t have the power to do so whenever it was just him, really, but now he has Mal, Evie and Jay there and together with them, he enjoys causing mayhem for other people.

Granted, I do think it’s something that he regrets in the present - it just doesn’t change the fact that he did it, you know? Carlos is the sweetest of the group, but he wasn’t always nice.

Jay’s correction of it being a wizard’s robe rather than his assumption of a dress does nothing to change the critical frown he’s directing towards the offending article of clothing. He’s not someone that has incredibly high standards in regards to fashion or anything (or maybe having his wardrobe consist mainly of things made for him by Evie has raised his standards a bit?), but even then, he can look at what the older boy’s attempting to make him wear and tell that this is probably one of the most ridiculous things that he’s ever seen in his entire life. Carlos thinks to himself that Evie might actually faint if she ever sees it.

So it shouldn’t be any surprise that he’s not exactly thrilled at the idea of having to actually put it on. He knows that he’s liable to just get made fun of and that’s not something he particularly wants. “People are going to laugh at me, Jay.”
