“long day?” the deep timbre makes your chest clench, dried tears staining your cheeks from the broken sobs you’d let loose while in your car.
“i didn’t know you were gonna be here,” you mumble, not bothering to hide your emotions, there was no point. valko probably sniffed out your sour mood the second you pulled in.
“missed you too much, doll,” he smiles softly, pushing himself off your couch and walking over to you. there’s tears brimming in your eyes when he approaches you, eyes focused more on toeing your shoes off than looking at your lover. “you wanna talk about it?” his voice is gentle, warm.
you bite your bottom lip to stop it from wobbling. you throw your keys in the small wolf shaped catch-all valko had bought you. valko hears your breath hitch, a frown on his face as he immediately steps closer you.
“c’mon dollface,” he doesn’t waste time in spinning you around softly, calloused thumb wiping away your tears as he smiles down at you. “it’ll be okay, i promise you.” his lips land on your forehead, brushing away any stray hairs.
“you hungry? I can order us some dinner,” you stay quiet at his words, your face buried in his chest as you let out quiet sobs.
“everything fucking sucks val,” you manage out, stepping back and angrily wiping your tears, “i finally had something i was so excited for and they just-” your voice cracks on the last word, valko wants to kill whoever made you this upset.
you bury your face in your hands, body shaking as you try and calm yourself down. valko doesn’t hesitate to sweep you up into his arms, biceps flexing as he cradles you. instinctively, your arms wraps around his neck, letting your head rest on his shoulder as you sniffle.
valko doesn’t say anything as he carries you to the bathroom, shifting you to carry you in one arm as he turns the water on for you.
“w-what are you doing?” you ask quietly, wiggling slightly as a sign for him to put you down. he complies immediately, gingerly lowering you until your feet are firm on the ground.
“didn’t you tell me there wasn’t anything a warm shower couldn’t fix after i couldn’t get my research right?” there’s the slightest teasing lilt to his voice, you want to roll your eyes at him.
“well yeah but-” you try and protest, valko raises his eyebrows, your rebuttal dies on your lips.
“and you’re using the expensive body wash i got you, no buts” he smiles, stifling his laughter when you grumble at his words. he waits for a moment before turning to step out of the bathroom, immediately halting when he feels your hand on his wrist. “what is dollface?”
you stare into his amber eyes for a second, stomach flipping at the concern swimming in them. “do you think… can you stay with me?” valko can’t stop his ears and tail from popping out, tail wagging incessantly at your words.
“i will always stay with you, no matter what.” the conviction and firmness in his voice make your eyes water once more, and his steadfast façade shatters immediately. his arms are around you before you can process anything, pulling you into his chest and squeezing you. “don’t cry baby, I’m right here, I’ll always be right here,” the waver in his voice makes you smile slightly.
god he’s so helpless. you love him.
valko wastes no time in helping you undress, he taps your arms gently, a signal for you to lift them up as he takes your shirt off. you blush as his breath catches in his throat when he sees you.
“you act like you don’t see me naked everyday,” you huff, goosebumps rising on your skin as his fingertips ghost over your skin before unhooking your bra.
he places a feathery kiss to your shoulder, slowly slipping the strap down your arm and sniffing at your neck. he hums as he kisses your jaw. “does a sunset get less breathtaking because you’ve seen it the day before?” you can’t stop the smile that breaks onto your face, cheeks heating up.
“stupid wolf,” you smile, holding onto his broad shoulders as he helps you out of your bottoms. he nips at your thighs, giggling as he sinks his sharp canines gently into your skin, not enough to even leave a mark.
“your stupid wolf.”
you roll your eyes, “yes, my stupid wolf.”
valko helps you into the shower, rinsing your hair and helping you shampoo, gently washing your body as you ramble to him of what’s bothering you. he listens attentively, nodding along to your words and pouting when your voice wavers again. whether out of anger or sadness, maybe a mix of both, fresh tears spill out of your eyes.
“maybe it’s stupid for me to be so upset about it, but i was really excited,” you murmur, letting the hot water hit your skin and sighing sadly.
“nothing you feel is ever stupid, it’s okay to feel how you do, it’s normal.” his voice is even as ever, squeezing the last bit of conditioner out of your hair before reaching over you and shampooing his own hair quickly. you stare at him with a small smile and gleaming eyes.
you giggle as he rinses his hair quickly, shaking his head rapidly to get as much water off him as possible.
you’re both quiet as he helps you out of the shower, drying you with a fluffy towel before wrapping you in it, carrying you to your shared bed and setting you down. he hums softly as he opens your closet and drawers, grabbing your favorite pajamas and handing them to you.
“gonna place the order for food and I’ll be back, okay?” you nod in response, smiling when he blows a kiss your way with an over exaggerated ‘MWAH!’ before leaving you to your own devices.
the silence of your bedroom is consuming, but the hollowness that once filled your heart is filled.
you don’t feel sad as valko walks in minutes later with a horrible wolf pun. you smile as he drowns you in cuddles and kisses, his tail wagging wildly at the sound of your giggles. your heart is warm and your mind at ease as he pulls you closer to him, sweet nothings leaving his lips as he comforts you.
“when you have a bad day, i hope you can find comfort in the fact ill still be here for you, waiting for you to come home to me.”
thinking about drawing while sitting in valko's lap!! his arms wrapped around your waist and his chin resting on your head as he uses his size to his advantage and watches you draw from above. his chest is solid and so so warm against your back, almost too warm. you can never get used to how much warmer he is compared to you.
if you're working digitally, he has endless questions. "what's that? how'd you do that? what does that do?" you answer them all, because you know he's asking just to hear a bit more of the sound of your voice. even if he repeats a couple questions unknowingly.
every once in a while, once you finish a step, he'll ask to borrow your pencil/stylus. if you oblige him, he'll draw a little doodle on the side, his brow furrowed in focus and concentration. (aww! he drew a little puppy!!!!!)
you ask him if he's bored, if he'd rather be doing something else, if he wants to get his phone or gaming console to entertain himself with, but every time he tells you no without even a second of hesitation. he loves being in your presence and feeling your body against his own; just spending time with you and watching you do what you love, even if everything progresses slowly.
if you look up at him, you'll find him attentively watching your process, flashing you a charming grin when you meet his gaze. if you get frustrated during the process of drawing, he'll kiss your furrowed brow, tilting your chin upwards so you move your focus to him instead. he's a master at dissolving the tension building up in your head, and you're never quite sure how he does it. you just know that a few minutes later, you feel reinvigorated and ready to get back to drawing.
and once you put in the last finishing touches and show him your artwork, he'll gaze at it with shining eyes before kissing all over your face and pulling you into a bone-crushing hug, telling you he's so proud and so incredibly lucky to have such a talented mate <333
"Would you call yourself an alpha?" You ask Valko curiously, perched on the couch while he sits on the floor between your legs. The TV blares a superhero movie that neither of you have watched and aren't really paying any attention to.
Valko tilts his head back to look up at you, eyes gleaming behind his glasses. "Why do you ask?" He replies and you shrug, running a hand through his thick locks.
"Wolf dynamics." You shrug then smile. "Also fanfiction."
Valko smiles mischievously. "Is this your roundabout way of asking if I have a knot?"
You blink, surprised. "How did you get that from me mentioning fanfiction?"
"You fall asleep with your phone unlocked sometimes," Valko confesses, his trailing fingers leaving sparks across your right leg. "And while I don't snoop—"
"Liar."
"—I do have good eyesight and I happen to know what A/B/O dynamics mean."
Silence is the only response he gets for a moment and Valko looks far too smug at the warring emotions dancing across your face. You look both impressed and mortified.
"But to answer your question, I guess I could be seen as an alpha." Valko turns his sights back to the TV. "So roll around in that for a bit."
He isn't shocked when the TV suddenly turns off and you're standing up.
"Valko."
He's already grinning, wolfish.
"Hmm?"
"Get in the bedroom."
He's scrambling to his feet in a rush of excitement.

Movie nights with Valko are your favorite. Snuggling on the couch, holding him close never fails to bring you comfort. You rest your head on his chest, listening to the subtle thumping of his heart. His tail wraps around your waist, brushing your thigh.
"This one? Hmmm. You in the mood for sci-fi?" You hold up the remote, searching through genres to find something that might work.
"Nah. Seen too many of those recently."
"Horror?"
"What about a romcom?" He sighs, stretching out on your couch and resting his hands behind his head.
"What about Twilight?" He smirks, clearly trying to rile you up.
"Val! We are not watching Twilight." You laugh.
"You’re the one always comparing me to Jacob."
For some reason, the TV just isn't responding, so you press down harder on the button. You angle the remote, as if that would somehow improve the connection. Unfortunately, the smooth plastic slides out of your grip. It clatters to the floor, the battery cover popping off.
"Shit. Valko can-"
"Got it!" Valko practically dives towards the remote, grabbing the device.
"Thanks…"
"No problem!" He gives you a fanged smile.
That's weird. He seems almost… Happy? Proud? Excited? That's the word. He seems strangely excited to retrieve the remote for you. You didn't notice it at first, but now that you think about it, it's something he's done since you met.
Just last week, you dropped your pencil while you looked over reports from the Association. Before you even registered that you had dropped it, Valko handed it back to you.
Yesterday, you accidentally knocked your phone off the counter while cooking. Valko was there to pick it up.
This morning, the toothpaste tube slipped out of your hands when you were brushing your teeth. He literally ran from the other room just to help you.
Then it clicked.
"Valko," You sigh, staring him dead in the eyes. "Are you… playing fetch with me?"
"No! I'm-" His voice cracks, coming out a few octaves too high.
"Ahem." He clears his throat, his voice returning to its usual baritone. "No. What do you mean? Tch. Playing fetch. I'm not a stupid dog." He insists.
"Right…" You give him a side eye, but resume the movie search regardless.
You hand him the remote, letting him find what to watch while a plan brews in your mind. There's no way you’re letting this slide without teasing him. It's just too good an opportunity to pass up. Spotting the bag of snacks perched on the table, you reach over and grab it, letting the bag slowly fall from your hand. It lands on the ground with a crackle.
Like a sleeper agent, Valko's eyes lock onto the package. His eyes narrow, like he's stalking prey. The wolf hybrid lunges, snatching it up from the floor. Valko then places it in your lap with a gentleness that belies the urgency with which he grabbed the bag of snacks.
"Valko."
"What?"
You snicker and toss the bag across the room.
"Valko, fetch!"
He bolts up from the couch, scoops up the chips and returns it to your outstretched hands.
"Oh. No, no, you did not!" Valko's face drops as he processes what in the world just happened. Red blooms across his face and his ears twitch in anger as embarrassment sets in.
"Stupid wolf instincts." He mutters. “Stupid human."

the moment Valko hears you crying, he’s by your side.
it doesn’t matter if he has work, or if his pack needs him, or even if he’s having his own crisis.
nothing is more important than his mate.
“c’mere, short stack,” he says, pulling you into his lap.
he already has his ears and tail out, wrapping his arms around you tightly, his tail landing in your lap so you can run your hands through the fur to calm yourself.
Valko keeps his head buried in the crook of your neck, tracking your scent as he holds you. he doesn’t push for answers, doesn’t ask what’s wrong. he just waits until your tears are under control enough for you to speak again.
“I feel so silly,” you say, still petting his tail. “they’re just pixels. why am I crying this much?”
Valko nuzzles you, readjusting you on his lap so as much of him is pressed against you as possible.
“pixels or not, that doesn’t make them any less real to your brain. or to your heart. not when you’ve loved them as much as you have.”
you sniffle, trying to pull yourself together, but Valko doesn’t move. after a while, he asks you to pull your phone out and show him your favorite game.
“tell me everything about them, short stack. I want to love them just as much as you do. they can even join the pack.”
so you do.
you don’t know how long the two of you stay on the floor, you in his lap, as you walk Valko through all of your favorite characters and storylines. but it doesn’t matter.
he’s not in a hurry. he’ll be there as long as you need, even if you’re there all night.
you’re his mate, after all. and he’s never going to leave you.
Actionable Ideas for Challenging Infold Over Valko's Release (Updated!)
A lot of LADS fans are really upset over Infold's decision to shelve Valko. This is my attempt at creating action items for fans wanting to do something but are unsure where to start.
Here are some methods for giving Infold feedback:
Sign this petition and this petition
Reply to their posts on X (Twitter)
Comment on their Instagram posts and unfollow them
Comment on their Facebook posts and unfollow them
Comment on their YouTube videos and unfollow them
Comment on their XHS/RedNote posts and unfollow them
Join their official Discord Server and voice your dissatisfaction
Leave a 1-star review on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store
Complete the survey in the Love and Deepspace app by selecting the box/pencil icon in the top right corner of the home screen
"Suggest" Valko's release in the Love and Deepspace app by going to Settings > More > Support, then select "Suggestion"
(If you want to be slightly passive-aggressive) On 9 July, go to Settings > More > Support, then select "Bug Report" and fill out the report stating that the promised Valko content is missing
Uninstall the LADS app after sending feedback, unless you want to continue using Support as another place to give repeated feedback
Remember: if we want Infold to listen to us, we MUST remain persistent, civil, and demonstrate our affection for the game. I highly doubt they will be intimidated by non-CN players, which means we are held to a different standard. What is effective for them will not be effective for us.
With that said, remember these do's and dont's:
Do vary your written feedback. Making each piece of feedback you give at least slightly different, particularly in emails, will ensure your thoughts are not filtered out.
Do repeatedly submit/post/send your feedback over the next few weeks. Email them today, in a few days, on 9 July, and in the weeks after. Post on their social media every day. Overwhelm them and show them this isn't going to go away over a few free Wishes.
Do prepare to CONTINUE submitting/posting/sending your feedback over the next few months. Infold needs to see that we won't let this issue go. Schedule emails to be sent to them over the next 3 months. Draft X posts today and copy and paste them to post in a few months time. Draft your long-form in-app feedback in preperation for the update and the upcoming banners. Create reminders to check and comment on their posts weekly. Don't let them get comfortable. Be a dog with a bone (lol).
Do maintain a polite tone in your feedback (even when you are issuing a threat like leaving the game).
Do specify your current disappointments, long-term criticisms, and expectations for the future of the game should you continue to play. For example, don't just say you want more Main Story updates; specify that you want them every three months.
Do clearly isolate your long-term issues with the game from the current issue of Valko's release. Make it clear that those issues are not resolved by delaying or permanently canceling Valko's debut.
Do talk positively about whatever you can (ie. enjoying other LIs, enjoying the content of the Main Story itself, appreciating the worldbuilding, etc). This may feel difficult, but it demonstrates that you are a passionate player. Infold can assume that a player so invested in the game would need something drastic to push them to leave.
Don't use profanity.
Don't reference CN players.
Don't bring up Infold's past mistakes. We need to stay focused on the current issues.
Don't criticize anything about Valko's teased content. This one may be unpopular, I know. If Infold is pulling back Valko's release, I don't think it's likely that they will be willing to invest any more time and money into his development. If they continue to get more and more criticisms about him and don't care to change anything about him, they will never release him. I'm not minimizing any fan's concerns; I'm suggesting we choose a priority.
If you are unsure where to start, here are some talking points:
Express your excitement over Valko (bonus points if you give reasons why). Did you come back from a long hiatus for him?
Express your disappointment over not having Valko in the game. How will it impact your enjoyment of the game?
Describe how you prepared for his anticipated arrival.
• In-game (farm for dias, bought packs, etc)
• On your devices (created storage space, bought a new device, etc)
• Financially (budgeted for buying packs upon his release, etc)
Describe how you engaged in fandom around Valko. Did you create fanart, fanfiction, or other fanworks? How much were you consuming fanworks showcasing him? Demonstrating how beloved he was before any real content of his being released indicates a warm reception if/when he is released.
What are the current issues you experience with the game? Be specific. Describe exactly how they impact your gameplay. Suggest a concrete way those issues could be resolved. Assert that Valko's release being postponed or canceled will not resolve these issues.
Express concern for the changes to their planned story arc his absence would create. Question if those changes would be as enjoyable as their original plan.
(If you're feeling up to it) Acknowledge the amount of time, effort, and money that must have gone into creating Valko. Let them know it would disappoint you to see it go to waste.
Infold made a terrible decision. We need to take action and let Infold know that a large portion of the LADS fanbase wants Valko to be released at some point. Let's try to remain positive where we can, engage in positive fandom, and do our best to make our voices heard by Infold.

MANY alternatives exist. Strawpage is a notoriously popular one, Neocities and other sites similar (I also use Nekoweb), and others, dozens of them literally fluctuate throughout the community.

Valko had grown up being told that when he'd meet his mate, he'd know. He would stay up so many nights, asking his mom to tell the story of how she met his dad, how she knew that his dad was the one. No matter how many times he'd hear the story, he'd never get tired.
Maybe that was why he believed in love stories. Because how could he not? His parents' was the love story for the ages.
However, seeing how old he was now, he was starting to lose hope.
He had travelled the world, met countless people, and never once had he ever met someone that made him pause. That stole his breath, that made his wolf go wild, that pulled him as if they were meant for him.
Sure, there had been relationships, good fucks- some were genuinely nice women. One relationship had even lasted two years because it was so comfortable. But that was all it was. Comfortable. No one ever captured his heart. No one ever made his soul burn. No one ever made his wolf yearn for them.
Not the way his mother had always told that she did for his father.
So he told himself that love could wait. It would have to wait. He just focused more and more on the company. On his career. On everything other than what he wanted to seek out.
Even now, he was sitting at his desk, overseeing some papers when his assistant knocked.
"Sir?" He popped his head in the office. "We have a bit of a situation downstairs."
"What now, Simon?" Valko sighed and looked up.
"Uh.. there's a woman downstairs. In the lobby. Won't leave until she sees you." Simon explained.
"So? Call security or whatever-" Valko waved him away.
"That's the problem part." Simon swallowed. "She's not doing anything. She's just sitting there. Says that she needs 5 minutes only. Says that she'll wait."
"Wait?" Valko's brows furrowed and Simon nodded. He inhaled deeply and paused. "I'll handle it." Valko said slowly and then took another deep breath.
There were the usual smells. Office cedar, air fresheners, stale coffee, and something new. Different. Sweeter.
Valko closed his laptop and took out his nasal blockers. He usually wore them so his sense of smell wouldn't constantly be assaulting and distracting him. He took another deep breath and suddenly felt his wolf pawing at the back of his throat.
That was new. His wolf never did that. Had never done that.
He walked out of his office and the smell grew stronger. He followed it all the way down to the lobby and there you were. His heart stuttered, his wolf practically tried to claw out of his chest. He had to put his nasal blocker back in so to not lose control and show the whole building his tail.
"I heard you were looking for me." He said smoothly with a smile, offering his hand.
"Mr Ao! Hello!" You smiled brightly and his knees almost buckled. "I'm so sorry for showing up like this but I called and no appointments were available until next month and-"
He wasn't listening. He couldn't. You were shaking his hand and that's all that mattered. All this time he'd spent looking- Somehow you'd come to him. Just shown up out of thin air.
"But anyway- I found a backdoor vulnerability in your new healthcare app-" You pulled away from his hand and he almost reached out to grab you again. You didn't notice that. You were too busy opening your laptop to show him what you'd found. "I have a small cyber security start up." You explained. "And I thought that if I'd emailed you about this, it might look like a scam or something -"
You were still talking but all Valko was doing was looking at you. Your hair, your eyes, your smile, the way your mouth moved as you spoke, your hands as they glided over the keys on your laptop. Whereas his wolf was purring because he was just near you. A soft chant churning in his head. Mate. Mate. Mate. Mate.
"See?" You smiled, showing him your laptop screen. "That could lead to potential data leaks." Valko nodded. He had heard absolutely nothing you'd said. "Whoever built the authentication layer probably forgot to tie up the loose ends- It's nothing catastrophic. Yet." You turned to him and he was just... There. Without a single working braincell.
"Right... Can you show me the code again please?" He tried to piece together what you'd said.
You nodded and put your laptop on the receptionist's desk. Valko moved closer to look at your laptop over your shoulder and definitely not to smell you.
The nasal blocker was there but this close, he could still smell you. Like pine after rain. Like a warm beach day. Like midnight after a thick snow. Everything was so crisp and you were showing him a code that looked like hieroglyphics at the moment.
"Mr Ao?" You asked, unsure if he was even listening.
"I'm sorry." He gave an easy smile to cover up the torment inside him. "I'm a little distracted. Work and all-" He lied. Oh god I just lied to my mate what would mother say? He cleared his throat. "If you could give me your number, perhaps we can arrange a proper sit down and discuss this?" And then afterwards I'll throw you over my shoulder and we'll disappear for at least a month.
You smiled again and his wolf preened. You were smiling at him. For him.
"Of course." You handed him your business card.
"I'll take very good care of this." And you. Oh god I'll take such good care of you. He slipped the business card into his pocket.
You nodded, "Well.. um- I should go- I'm sorry for causing a scene and-"
Cause as many scenes as you want. Anything you want. His brain was burning up. This was everything and more than what his mother had told him would feel like.
"Thank you." He breathed out as you put your laptop on your bag. "For finding this." And me. Thank you for finding me. "We would have landed in a lot of trouble and lawsuits if you hadn't."
"It's really no problem. You're doing good work. I didn't want it to stop just because someone made a mistake." You assured him. "Thank you again for your time, Mr Ao."
"Valko. Please, call me Valko." He said softly. You'll be saying it for the rest of life, soon enough.
"Valko." You repeated and his wolf purred in his chest.
He shook your hand again, his other hand coming to cover yours completely. "I hope to see you again soon." And then never let you go.
