“While I’ll take you up on the drink, I’ll pass on the lap offer” Iris replied, stepping inside at his welcome. “Though play your cards right and I might replace that lap with your face later in the night”

whenever the school year started up again, max found herself endlessly amused with the new royals gaining their footing on campus. this was no exception as she watched the familiar redhead with a raised eyebrow, her arms crossed over her chest and just shrugging. “more like can i help you?” she said, flicking pieces of her short hair out of her eyes. “you look a little lost.” she’s settled into campus years ago, settled away from the spotlight of her family. max loved it here to say the least, even if it meant she had to collide with her family’s word more often than she would like.

Iris had taken a brief survey of royals already attending, and so had known that she would run into the american princess at some point, though the redhead didn’t expect it to be so soon. “I’m perfectly alright, thank you Max” She responded evenly, turning fully to face the other. She knew little about the other girl, the brunette rarely appearing in the spotlight the rest of her family shared. While Iris talked both to and about Wes, she couldn’t say the same for Max, and had no intentions of lowering her guard anytime soon. “Just taking a brief walk while I get settled in” 

Taemin nodded at her explanation. It was simple enough to understand, and was fairly easy for him to disregard any ill feelings out of it all. “No, no maps at the moment sadly.” Taemin smiled with an informed shake of his head. “But would you mind terribly wandering with me? Maybe two sets of eyes can help decipher this place.” He pushed his hands into his pockets and nodded ahead of him to wordlessly suggest they walk. “Is there anywhere in particular we should be looking for?”

“Thats a shame. I’m beginning to wish I had payed slightly more attention when I received a tour last year” Iris sighed, before shrugging lightly, giving the other a smile. “I wouldn’t mind at all actually. Two minds are better than one after all” She agreed, before following his suggestion, starting down the path as she mad sure he was matching her pace. “Well, originally I was looking for my chemistry class in East hall, but at this point I’d settle for finding the way back to my building to be quite honest.”

After an exhausting day of lugging boxes into her new room because her parents refused to get her a chauffeur, Vee had finally found some time to relax. The grounds were beautiful and she’d found a nice spot on the grass in the sun to bury herself in a book. Sun, she thought, surely that’s a good sign. She had to admit, she had her doubts about this place. Everyone in her family had attended Oxford which was what she had always planned to do - that was before her father had put his foot down. However, in spite of only being there for a day the place had already grown on her. Slipping her cigarette case from her back pocket, she removed a joint, lighting it and taking a long drag. Joint in one hand and book in the other, out of the corner of her eye she spied someone she thought she recognised. “Oh, I’m sorry. Do I know you?” Vee removed her sunglasses and brought the joint up to her lips.

Shes used to being back home, where the mere sight of the elder princess in a mood could send lackys scurrying. To have this girl remain was a touch jarring, and Iris pressed her lips together briefly in irritation, before arching a judgemental eyebrow as the girl started to smoke. “You’ll get cancer like that, and I’m fairly certain smoking is illegal on school grounds as well” She replied, before shrugging. “Probably, though I don’t recognize you. I’m Iris Altea.” She stated simply, before turning fully, arms crossing slightly as she regarded the other girl. “So, who are you, and why do you smoke those awful things in public?”

Sam squinted through the lenses of her sunglasses, trying to decipher the garble of names on the page of her textbook. She had never understood Turkel, doubted she ever would. Letting out a sigh, she reached for the coffee cup she had sitting nearby and went to take a sip, unaware that the lid had been loosened somehow. She quickly discovered that fact, however, when it popped loose entirely and she was shocked by a face-full of lukewarm latte assaulting her. Once the surprise had faded, she put the cup back aside, finally noticing someone off to the side who had witnessed the entire thing. Her face grew warmer than before as she lifted her glasses and tried of offer a persuasive smile. “How much convincing will it take for you not to mention this to anyone?”

Iris, despite all appearances and declarations, to the contrary, really did love her sister. Which, of course, made it even harder to accept what a complete idiot the other could be at times. She had merely meant to join her sister and ask what she was working on, not watch the younger make a complete fool of herself. Sighing, she pulled out the extra shirt, along with a few napkins from her bag. “You’re lucky I’m the only one here Sam, could you imagine if pictures of that got out? Here, just clean up” She responded, pushing the cup further away from her sister as Iris took the books and set them aside. “Did you burn yourself?”

Cecily bit her tongue, forcing back her immediate thought which was that she was shocked that the barbarians inhabiting Scotland had even stumbled upon the concept of manners. Though Scotland and England were hardly on friendly terms, it wouldn’t do for her to allow her pride to worsen tensions already in existence. However she was not about to allow this insipid woman to insult her and her country without responding in turn. 

“It must be refreshing for you to be in a place so lovely and cheerful, though I imagine the lack of gloomy fog and unkept estates would be a hard adjustment. Cecily smiled at Iris, though her eyes remained cold. “I’m sure the customs of Scotland and England do differ ever so slightly; for example, in my country we address people by their appropriate titles, as is respectful. I do hope I haven’t offended you by looking through the window, Princess Samantha -oh, I beg your pardon- Princess Iris.”

If they weren’t the direct heirs to royalty, Iris would have slapped Cecily silly by now. But she’d rather the Icelandic heir be the only one accused of assault this year, and so she just kept smiling at Cecilys words. Her parents years of acting classes and diplomacy tutors had never gone to waste after all, and Iris could fake with the best of them.  “While the climate here is certainly different than back home, I do have to wonder if you’ve ever properly visited Scotland Cecily” She replied, knowing full well the girl hadn’t visited more than the royal estate in years. “Based on that lovely tour your dear brother Ali gave me of Englands countryside last year, foggy and overgrown seems more fit for your own country.” She paused, eye twitching at the name mix up, before continuing, crafting her words to hurt. “Oh, thats alright. Though, if you wished to use titles, it would properly be Crown Princess Iris, as my sister Samantha is second in line for the throne. And actually, that reminds me, how is your brother? Last I heard from him there was yet another lord saying they wished he was next in line. That must be terribly difficult for you, I can’t imagine anyone saying that I was unfit to rule. But I suppose when one doesn’t demonstrate their abilities, or is lacking in such,  that does tend to happen.”

  “I’ve benefitted from a fresh start or two here and there, so yeah, I can understand that.” He shrugged, offering a smile. “I confess, I’ve stuck fairly close to my sister and my staff since I got back from the break, but I have run into England and France since I started unpacking.”

“Well, we all need one from time to time” Iris laughed, smiling. “Oh, your sisters here as well? I haven’t had the chance to meet her yet” She mentioned, making a slight face at the mention of Cecily. As much as she tried to avoid it, her ongoing dislike and slight feud with the other girl was known amongst the royal families at the very least. “Icelands here as well, and I think I heard them talking about the South Korean king.” She mentione, before glancing around. “So tell me, how long have you been here? And would you happen to know where North Hall is? I think I may have gotten a little lost on my way”

Taemin paused as he looked over the face of the royal in front if him. While he was apathetic at best, was well trained in knowing the rest if the world’s royalty. He figured a small conversation wouldn’t kill him. Perhaps it would make this lingering day pass with more ease. Before he had said anything, she had spoken up though. He was too slow to the punch. Listening to her nearly rehearsed tone, the king rose his brows in with the slightest amusement. He scoffed out a curt laugh before composing himself and nodding. “You looked possibly as lost as I am. But I can read that annoyance on your face; so I’ll just step out for now.“

If she had known exactly who was behind her, Iris likely would have reigned in her reaction slightly. She might not have had much experience with Taemin, but she knew that stepping on the toes of any king was still a bad idea. “I apologize, I’ve had some... difficulty with being approached today by some merely looking for the bragging rights of speaking to royalty. This is the first chance I’ve had to walk around the grounds unimpeeded.” She confessed, nose wrinkling slightly at the memory of the earlier students who had tried to speak to her for no reason. “You’re right however, I’m not entire certain exactly where I am. I don’t suppose you happen to keep a map on your person?”

    “I can’t really take all the credit - most of it was my stylist’s doing, but I’ll pass on your compliment,” he chuckled. “I’ve been as well as can be expected, I think. I hope you can say the same?”

“Perhaps, but they can only do so much with what they’re given after all.” Iris mused, before giving a slight nod. “I have. Looking forward to my experience here, I have to say. It’s nice to leave some things behind and have a relatively fresh start, don’t you agree?” A dead lie, but Iris doubted Wes knew enough about the inner machinations of her family to know how power hungry she was, and how displeased the distance between her future throne and current residence made her. “But tell me, have you met anyone else around here yet? I’ve heard of some who might be coming, but you’re the first one of the royal families I’ve actually run into”

Cecily thanked the years of practice that allowed her to keep a courtly smile on her face despite her internal irritation. She still wasn’t used to being addressed as a peer by the majority of people, let alone with mild disdain, but it seemed as though she’d have to adjust to that now that she was going to be surrounded by high-ranking nobles. “No, I apologize if it seemed like I was staring, I was actually admiring the garden through the window behind you.”

Ah, the english mutt princess. Excellent. Iris returned her smile with one of her own, making sure to keep it just on the edge of threatening. She didn’t like the girl in the first place, and especially not just then. “It is a lovely garden, I agree. However, while I’m not sure how it works for you Cecily, in Scotland we consider it polite to say excuse me when others stand in our sightline” Iris hated the media, and having eyes on her, even if they did belong to someone who was her so called equal.

  “Iris, yes, I remember. France was fun, it’s a shame it’s been so long since we’ve run into each other - the years have obviously been kind to you.”

“Glad to hear it. Yes, France was a very fun time” Iris agreed with a laugh, before giving him another smile, this time a shade more flirtatious. “And to you as well. I must say, I like the new look. Tell me, how have you been?”

    “say it again, sweetheart. i swear i was listening, i’m just not on my comprehension game right now. but you’ve got my full attention.”

“ I would certainly hope I have your attention” Iris responded, arching an eyebrow slightly before resuming her smile, picture perfect and camera ready at a moments notice. “You’re Prince Wes, correct? Princess Iris Altea, we met three years ago at the trade summit in France I believe” A rather toned down and simplified version of her original greeting, but she supposed it got her point across.
