I hate it

I hate that it isn’t romantic

I hate that I’m not looking across a city skyline taking a long dramatic puff of a cigarette

I get an electric box i clutch as everything falls apart

I get the taste of fruit as I’m filled with smoke

I hate that i want it to be romantic

My brother is the only person who can have a mustache

I wont accept any argument against it

I dont care what anyone says about it

Because it makes him happy

I want to support him no matter what

Because he was the only one who did that for me

When the rest of the family were overflowing with resection questions anger fear confusion whatever you pick

He walked down to my room to give me a hug and tell me that he loves me no matter what and that his door was always open if i needed it

He was the only thing that held me together in that moment the only light through all the darkness

To be home again is to remember

The smell

The sounds

The feeling of the floor

But we also remember all it used to be

That feeling deep in your stomach

Trying to find a place un the conversation to finally say your thought

Speaking to a finally quiet room waiting for a response before leaving as none of the faces show any regard

I remember it all in one moment putting the prices together again

Every extra second before someone responds, every struggle to get out a thought that makes that familiar pit in your stomach

I wanna start from the top, maybe like a do-over

(Start from the top of the issue, trans people being separated from gay and queer individuals)

Replace the voices in my head with blind innocence

(This harmful choice to look away from someone else’s struggle and separate yourself from them despite everything)

I wanna complete re-do, maybe change my name

(Its simple and just about what it is to be trans, just about identity and who you are)

Report the losses grab the claim, it's a shame it's such a shame

(Setting trans people aside and claim freedom beyond them, just is a shame to see you do the same things that have kept us all from moving forward)

We're pissing away our time 'cause we're pissing away these beers

No monumental moment ever came from saying

"Come on dude, just take one more shot"

(It is like you are pissing away all this work and community that we have all built together.)

Try to, try to forget, that your bones will dismantle

And the dreams you had, they'll collide with time

(Try to forget us and forget that what will happen to us will happen to you. This dream of acceptance we all hoped for will collide with a wall because we are fighting each-other)

Your unrequited love for life will surely

Halt that I'm thinking way too much at night

(There was a unwavering sence of support and comunity we had because of trans people, and now we are separated and fighting thinking too much about it, lousing sleep because of it)

Maybe I could just move away or go extinct like a triceratops

(Maybe we can just disappear, find our own place, but maybe we will just be eradicated go extinct)

But I love loving, watching movies, sitting back and also breathing

(We are just people people with lives and interests, people who feel like we are fighting to keep breathing)

My family and friends would be crushed, but is it enough?

Oh no, it's not enough

(We have families who love us freinds who love us is that not enough? Your telling us no its not)

Oh, the future freaks me out, but I guess I could just

Curl up in a ball and think

(We are scared for our futures if we will be allowed to live allowed to be ourselves, its too much we have to curl up in a ball to be able to think about it)

(Even if you leave us behind now one day it will come for you and it wont matter you left us behind they still see you as an enemy)

I won't be breaking any barriers

(Trans people have always fought for ourselves and others and we wont break down those barriers for you like we have, ex: stonewall)

That your bones will dismantle and the dreams you had so I'll keep thinking the future

(You and our identities could be destroyed so i will keep thinking about fighting for the future and we need to do this together not separate ourselves to try and align ourselves with an oppressor)

They'll collide future freaks me out

(You are saying that the collision of trans people and those who hate them is inevitable so you want to get out of the way, but im pleading with you that im scared too and we must work together we are all scared kids at some point)

With time, your unrequited love for life I won't judge you if you think the same

(With time you will see that this community and devotion to uplifting ourselves and others is not worth a short term fix like separating yourself from trans people. And i can understand why you have thought this way it is heartbreaking and hurts but when we are all hurt i can understand your mistakes)

Will surely halt that so let's keep thinking

(Surely you wont do this to us right? You wont leave us behind after every. Please lets keep working towards a bright future for all of us)

I'm thinking way too much at night well the future, the future freaks us out

I think that it is just residual hate from the obsession people have with the “what if super man was evil” because i hate it, the point of super man (and imo most super heroes) is that constant choice to be good to be that light of hope, i understand wanting to show conflict and struggle. But it is so important to show people who chose to be good because they are good.

I think that mark’s story as a person who in a different situation was brought up more by his personification of imperialism father led to a lower empathy and a more violent evil person. But i dont love how the most recent season has shown him as “seeing the value” of being the bad guy. Im not saying that a hero choosing to kill someone is bad. I agree that some people and villains (in media) are irredeemable and should be killed to stop them. I dont love that the only reason mark is choosing to kill being only to protect his family. Specially the sene where he chooses to let the world get destroyed because he wants to sit next to his fully stabilized girlfriend waiting for her to wake up. I understand caring about her but the “fuck the millions of people who are dying to versions of me, im gonna sit here and hold her hand” like dude he only feels that murder is acceptable if its about his family. He cares only about his family not anyone else. And a little bit it makes powerplex sound right bc he has shown little care for anyone but his family and freinds.

Im just so caught up in the standard of “with great power comes great responsibility” and i understand he is a different character but like the choice of “every one else can deal with it” while characters like rex who are not as strong as him are putting their lives on the life and sacrificing themselves for others.

I really enjoy this talk this is my second or third time watching it for a class. I think every time i watch it I feel so focused on a different part of it. The main message of awareness and focusing on this idea of an overlap, is so important to me still. Discussions of injustice and discrimination already struggle to maintain our focus and attention at times. Adding this concept of intersectionality is so important. I think that it's so important because it makes the problem more real to us. People are infinitely diverse and complex and to focus our minds on how there are multitudes to everyone and how there are multiple ways that people experience oppression or discrimination. I think that this does so much to put the issue in a context that we can see in others, it works to show us yes the differences we all share but also our similarities. I think that this works to focus on the people who need the attention and help because of these overlapping traits.
