Medicine, water, supplies, food, fuel (much of it black market being upsold at egregious prices) — these all cost money and pretty much all Palestinians in Gaza have no source of income now. It’s drops in the bucket compared to ending the siege and occupation but it’s one way to do at least something small to help. Others are in need of money to evacuate when the border opens again (which hopefully is asap…), tuition and supplies for school to continue studies despite it all. Another fund is focused on trying to rebuild farmlands in Gaza to get food again that way.

Viktor: "The crystals will only stabilize at high frequencies. You have to-" Jayce: "Crank it!" Viktor: "Yes. Yes. You have to... crank it!"

Before this, he was intrigued by Jayce’s ideas and hoped they could build something together as scientists. But this is more than discussing facts and theories – it’s playful. And the one thing we know about Viktor’s past is that he was a lonely child: he had no one to play with, due to his disability but also because other children his age likely couldn’t keep up with him intellectually.

The only person who did understand him was Singed - but Singed was already a grown adult - awfully serious - and probably not interested in building toy boats with Viktor. And even if he had been, I think most of us can agree that nothing can ever replace the joy of having someone your own age to play with.

Well, more than a decade later - there's Jayce, who builds upon Viktor's explanation in a way that absolutely delights him. Because not only does Jayce understand him perfectly - the back and forth makes it feel like a game. You can tell how much this moment sticks out to him, because a little later, Viktor brings it up again, only for the joke not to land this time. (He looks so sweet and awkward there, it gives me cute aggression every time I see it).

That's why I see the scene of them being face to face during the council room fight mirroring the crank-it moment. Because once again, Viktor goes for echoing Jayces words back to him: "Let's do this once again as...partners." (This is the first time we hear him using that term to describe them) He also, if you look carefully, has this expectant look, with a small smile on his face - that transforms into a disappointed pout, when Jayce denies him.

I have three jobs that are all unstable. I live in complete poverty as a sole provider to a family of three in the global south. I am on maintenance medicine for hypocalcemia, type II diabetes and hypothyroidism for the rest of my life. My mother is a full time wheelchair user with very low movement, my father is managing a chronic kidney disease, and my sister is autistic with a low frustration threshold. I am their sole provider, and now dealing with nerve damage post surgery- a quarter of my face, and nearly my entire neck has not healed properly- its numb and painful and makes it hard to work for me as it limits my own movement somewhat.
