Yeah, no, we in the RWBY fandom... we really do? Need to learn to take constructive criticism, that is. And not freak out when people offer it/a different opinion. As it stands currently, we're pretty horrible at it.
Thank you so much for this, anon! Everyone needs constructive criticism from the smallest fanfic to movie reviews of the Avengers, for example. Everyone should appreciate it and learn from your mistakes. And sometimes people arenât going to like what you write! And thatâs okay because not everything is for everyone! As a writer myself, this is extremely important because how can you improve your writing then?
I also feel like the rwde tag is really sad, tbh. When I was making the post, I was VERY hesitant to because of the backlash I knew Iâd get, and I didnât know how to tag it. But I stood my ground because it does belong in both tags: rwde because I was a little snarky and rwby because it was constructive criticism, albeit a little snarky.
Fandoms in general need a lot of work and have become the primary reason for Tumblrâs current state of hostility. There have been fandoms Iâve seen and been in (and embarrassed by) that have done everything from: force members off of tumblr, push someone to suicide, send death threats to writers of the fandom SOURCE MATERIAL among other despicable, unforgivable things.
I think that the RWDE tag was born from this, and I would hope for some day it to be eliminated. Because on the one hand, the fan base could be nicer to each other and their ships, and on the other hand could stand to see some criticism of a far-from-perfect show born from amateur writers, animations, and voice actors that were literally picked because they were secretaries at the office of Rooster Teeth.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk â¤ď¸
