In old wizarding tourneys, a knight would wear his lady’s "favor" (a scarf or handkerchief) to show who he was fighting for. So, before every Gryffindor match, Sirius ties Remus’s beat-up, chocolate-stained Gryffindor scarf around his upper arm.

He thinks, "It’s for luck. Moony is the smart one. His scarf is practically a logic charm."

The whole school assumes they are dating.

Finally, James asks, "Padfoot, why are you wearing Remus’s favor? You know that means if you win, the glory goes to him, right?"

"So?" Sirius says, offended. "Who else deserves the glory? He helped me with the essay that kept me on the team."

James stares. "You're dedicating your wins to him. That’s... incredibly romantic."

Sirius looks at the scarf fluttering in the wind. He looks at Remus in the stands, shivering but cheering.
