Tetrinos Family History - Prologue
The Tetrinos Family - A family line going back generations, branching off the Kha tribe decades upon decades ago. The Kha tribe of Xaela Au Ra were well known for communicating with various cultures, incorporating many things from them. One particular subset of this tribe, however, wanted to forego the nomadic lifestyle of moving around the mountains, and instead opted to separate off from them, dubbing their name of "Tetrinos", and subsequently naming the first of their children "Ra'hot Tetrinos". Over time, as they drifted further and further from the Xaelic culture, even their first names began to diverge from tradition. Jalaqai, Isander, Jera, Kieryn, and so on.
Funny thing about leaving your culture, and starting off in this life on your own - It means you have to adapt, and find your own place in this world.
For many years Ra'hot found himself at a loss, struggling to find his place in life. That is until he met his wife, Syllesse. She helped him to solidify what the name of "Tetrinos" would be associated with, and where they could go for future generations. Contract Killing.
It started out small-time, taking requests here and there. Over time, the family name began to become more commonplace in certain circles of townsfolk, and work began to pile up. Syllesse suggested that they begin only taking on higher-profile targets, so as to have less work, but each contract giving a very high payout.
Work continued for decades with nothing more than a couple hiccups here and there, and eventually, the family began to amass a small fortune. The two ended up giving birth to a son, Vicane, who continued the families legacy as it began.
Eventually, Ra'hot and Syllesse passed on, and Vicane fathered his own son, Jalaqai, who also began to take on the family legacy, as well as a daughter, Taionia, who married and moved on from the families life. Vicane lived to see his fifties, but something happened to cause him to not live too much further beyond that.
For reasons unknown, Vicane began to develop a swiftly-arriving and fatal degenerative brain disease. He began spouting nonsense, nearly driving the family name into the ground. He passed on, leaving the family to his song Jalaqai.
At this point in time, the Kugane port in which the family did most of their business began putting measures in place to prevent such travesties of murder. The Sekiseigumi began putting people to death simply for drawing a blade in city limits. The family went through turmoil, unsure of where to go from here.
It wasn't until Jalaqai's two sons were born and grown up that methods began to deviate. One of his sons, Isander, thought of a methodology of continuing the work without having to directly, visually hurt a target - Psychologically. He would train the families assistants in the art of Psychological warfare, bringing a target down from the inside out, and strip them of all they hold dear until they, inevitably, choose to fall onto their own blades. Jalaqai's other son, Mikhael, opted against this practice, choosing to continue the families original legacy in cities not limited to Kugane, Shirogane, and Doma.
The family became known around Eorzea for their murderous tendencies due to his practice, but thankfully, his life was cut short due to the selfsame brain damage Vicane, and eventually, Jalaqai suffered. The Tetrinos family name would go unheard in Eorzea for years after this, as Mikhaels sons both died young. Jalaqai, on the other hand, flourished with his newfound practices and marked them as the de-facto standard the Tetrinos Family would uphold from this generation on. His sons, Jera and Ri'en, both agreed with this sentiment, though their attitudes differed greatly.
In their early days, Jera was often quiet, restricting himself to studying the arts his father developed, and occasionally training his combat skills. Ri'en, on the other hand, was exactly the opposite. His tactic involved less so "Psychological" torment, and more so physical when the opportunity strikes. If he had a chance to physically combat the target, he would take it. Jera's attitude began to change as Isander began seeing another woman after Jera and Ri'en's biological mother died in childbirth. Keslona Glazholwen would occasionally step off her boat docked in Kugane, spending time with the children and Isander. Training, beach trips, and other various activities were common enough for the two to eventually begin referring to her as their own mother, but as they approached their twenties, she disappeared without much of a trace. Isander fell to the same illness as before, and after that Keslona was nowhere to be found.
Jera picked up the family business, expanding the practices to Eorzea in a whirlwind of business propositions. The family name became common-knowledge as both revered and feared around the world, and they began work expanding into other forms of business, most notably the importing and exporting of raw, illegal botanical goods for the use of potent poisons, spearheaded by Ri'en and his love of the concept. After a few years, Jera would meet his wife, Meana. Work slowed down as Meana's kind-hearted nature seemed to almost rub off on to the man for a time. Ri'en became ever frustrated by this fact and began trying to take the reins, resulting in catastrophic failures and his name and reputation being known for such. Jera and Meana ended up having two children, Lieron and Kieryn Tetrinos. Lieron was ever-competitive, trying to outsmart even his own father as chances came up, though to no avail.
Kieryn, on the other hand, opted to spend most of his time with his mother. Learning to read, write, and accept other choices of lifestyle that constantly were at the back of his mind. He settled on wanting to instead become an investigator, and would often refuse contracts if he could blatantly see the target had done no wrong. Those he did take, would instead be investigated and persecuted should it become necessary. Jera grew irrationally frustrated by this, as the families name was slowly fading from important in the society they had spent generations working in. He began pushing the children harder and harder to hopefully cause the both to understand what it is they were striving for.
Eventually, this broke Lieron. All inhibitions in the boy’s mind were gone, and he became infamous for his almost perfect execution of the practices, every target is properly taken care of, even some who were originally assigned to Kieryn.
Of course, throughout all of this, no one stopped to think how this drastic pushing of the children would affect Meana. The stress became overwhelming to her as she tried day and night to at least prevent Kieryn from falling down the same road as Lieron, and it drove her to an early grave.
One night, several weeks after her death, Jera stormed in and told Kieryn to accept a contract, and execute it properly. Should he fail to do this, Kieryn himself would become the next contract. He looked at the pages of the contract, finding it was simply a woman who wanted her husband killed for insurance money. After telling his father he wouldn't be taking it, and subsequently being thrown to the ground in a fit of rage, Kieryn managed to get out the grasp of his father and make way to Eorzea, hoping to strip himself of the family name, and eventually work towards the name meaning something more than what it does. Something acceptable in modern circles of conversation.
This is where the story of Kieryn began. But by no means where it ended.
