not evan related, but I wanted to share a few thoughts about this. My fyp and Twitter are full on with clips from Ariana's eternal sunshine concert, and she looks extremely malnourished, like you can clearly tell that she's struggling with an ED. I know we shouldn't be talking about other people's bodies, but that looks concerning. Especially when it comes to young people looking up to her and thinking "wow she looks so thin, I wanna look like her". No, that's not a healthy body, and nobody should look up to that. And people saying that "Oh god she looks healthier and way better" or " she always looked like this" are out of their minds cause you can tell she's sick and struggling. All she needs right now is professional help and time off from the spotlight to recover properly.
whew. the videos and pictures that have been popping up on my social media feeds of ariana lately are more concerning than ever. i genuinely hope she seeks help and heals. but it's a double-edged sword, really, because she clearly suffers from an eating disorder and has for many years, as evident by not just her social media behavior and alleged anonymous ED accounts, but by the way she constantly bodychecks in overt ways relating to her weight/size. this means that the constant barrage of ''she looks so sick/skinny'' actually fuels her and is something that she enjoys hearing as validation of her disease.
on the other hand, because she is a public figure and someone who has loads of young fans who are mostly girls, i also think we need to be able to speak frankly about what is healthy vs. unhealthy. a lot of the defensive commentary from her fans is just not acceptable and not helpful when at the end of the day, eating disorders have the HIGHEST mortality rate of any mental illness. it's irresponsible to frame commentary about this as simple "bodyshaming" when what's at play is a mental illness. there are people who are naturally very thin and don't need speculative commentary about their bodies, but we can literally see that this is not the case for ariana. she has been a public figure nearly her whole life and it's plain to see how her weight has plummeted. i fully believe that lady on tiktok was spot on when she said this is ariana's reponse to suffering a narcissistic injury, because she is almost certainly a narcissist. as soon as she started to be unmasked as a terrible person who did harmful things and began to receive widespread criticism, she retreated physically and emotionally. gone was the fake tan, the fake urban accent, the ponytail, the overt arrogant persona. what replaced it was sickly pale skin, emaciation, a new soft, timid speaking voice and a "cutesy" style of dress that for once wasn't based on culture theft. her life is likely in shambles with her ego, and if she isn't careful she will end up like karen carpenter.
