Known as the “Grandmother of Feminism” (Murphy), she used her literary power to forward the cause of feminism in the early 18th century, and then proceeded to stop it all because she was promiscuous, unfeminine and shouted her ideas too loudly for the time period.

Sometimes the louder the argument, the quieter the message becomes.

Though it is not widely agreed, Jane Austen is regarded by some as the one who understood the conventions of the day, and reopened the feminist conversation.

Here are five films that capture the spirit of Jane’s novels well, and show the underlying feminist ideals in each. Though many people today see an Austen film as the Anti-Feminist, I believe feminism is inherent in them all.

Look. Orange is the new Black is a good show. It's always been a good show. The plot's interesting, it hits the notes with it's comedy, and compared to a lot of media the representation is great. However, this season was a bit of a mess in places.

A lone figure stands on a roof, silhouetted by the sun. They survey the city below, a playground waiting to be explored. They begin to move, to run to the edge of the shingles. They leap across the alley below, just grasping the ledge of the neighboring building with their fingertips. They scramble up the wall and the run continues. They jump, they roll, they swing on ropes, they skate across power lines. They are powerful. Strong. Totally badass.

That lone figure could be the main character of any number of video games. Parkour has become a common presence in how players traverse and conquer their in-game environments. That prevalence in popular titles is actually a bit surprising, because the discipline of parkour hasn’t been around for all that long. How did it become such a big element of so many games, and why?

Over the years, Oliver has proven that he will do anything for Thea, even if it means crossing the line. There's about a thousand things that make reading books so wonderful, but what makes people who read books wonderful? What is it about a girl who stays up all night because she can't put down her novel, or a guy who chooses a book over a video game that is so fantastic? Maybe it's the behavior of them. The way they get excited over little things that don't make sense to anyone else. Maybe it's the way they gravitate towards people like themselves, fangirls and boys who are trying to figure out how they can read books for a living.
