The 1973 Porsche 917-30. 1100+ bhp, 240mph, 2mpg, 0-100 in 3.9sec. Entered by Roger Penske in the ‘73 Can-Am series, Mark Donohue bravely took the wheel and smashed the competition, scoring over twice as many points as the second placed driver in the series. The utter domination was such that the car effectively ended the popular Can Am competition, coupled with the subsequent oil crisis. ‘Chequered History’ Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato Le Mans 24-Hours 1961 (Fairman / Consten) ‘1VEV’ in action at the ‘61 Le Mans, down the pit straight, passing the sister no.3 car as it pulls into the pits, seen in the bodywork reflection. One of the most prominent & important Astons, chassis #182. One half of the famous pairing of ‘1VEV’ & ‘2VEV’; both cars were entered into the 1961 Le Mans by John Ogier’s Essex Racing Stable. Unfortunately both cars retired within laps of one another with blown Head Gaskets. 1VEV would go on to beat it’s main automotive rival; the Ferrari 250GT SWB, at the ‘61 Tourist Trophy, quite a feat given that the DB4s were skittish, tricky to handle & much heavier then the Ferrari. ‘Monaco Muletto’ Artwork available in Limited Edition Print Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza Muletto Chassis #2111039 17 Apr 1932 Monte Carlo - Monaco Grand Prix Alfa Corse team entered 4 cars into the race, driven by Italians; Borzacchini, Campari, Nuvolari & sole German; Rudi Caracciola. As Caracciola was German, and with Campari in particular not wanting him in the team, his car was painted white, whilst the others remained in red. Italian Tazio Nuvolari eventually won the race, but after a very close battle with Caracciola, who was just edged out by 2.8sec at the chequered flag. A light-heart tribute to the car that has a history like no other Ferrari: > Started out life in 1961 as a 250GT SWB, dubbed the ‘SEFAC Hot Rod’ due to it being the ultimate SWB spec at the time. > Competed strongly at the Tour de France & Daytona. > Converted to the unique Kamm tail body (designed by Bizzarrini) in 1962 by wealthy Italian; Count Volpi, using a team of engineers who had walked out of Ferrari. The Breadvan was developed against the wishes of Enzo Ferrari > Labelled the Breadvan by the British press and ‘la Camionette’ (little truck) by the French.
