Yennefer bit down on her tongue, physically restraining herself from suggesting a portal. The sorceress was known for many things, but patience wasnât one of them. Still, just portaling from one lead to another wasnât going to get them answers any faster, since it could mean leaving important clues to Ciriâs path on the wayside.
âPart of me wants to turn over every island in this kingdom looking for her,â she muttered, looking out towards the churning waters on the coast. âIt wouldnât be all that productive. But at least it would keep me busy.â She glanced over at him.
Itâd been so long since sheâd seen him when sheâd sent her letter for him to meet her, and now she wasnât sure if she ought to make up for lost time, or just learn to move forward with whatever they were. Maybe heâd just be sick of her at the end of it all.
âWe should go somewhere warm, when this is all done. Thaw this cold from our bones.â Planning ahead was good. It kept her mind busy, and assumed this would all come out okay.
Listening to Yen in silence, Geralt had to admit that he could relate far more than heâd like. Heâd been travelling day in, day out, not stopping - never stopping - in search of Ciri, following every single clue he could find, no matter how small. And yet it seemed nearly hopeless; one breadcrumb just leading to another with no end in sight.Â
It was maddening, the worry and the helplessness. Pausing to catch his breath only made matters worse, so he didnât. âWe will find her, Yen. Sooner, or later, we will find her.â Those words sounded rehearsed, like he had practised them countless times before. And in a way, he had. He repeated them to himself over and over again, to stop himself from losing hope, from giving up.Â
Turning his head to look at her, Geralt couldnât help a brief smile. Sheâd never allow me to give up. Not even to think of it. No. Yen might easily lose interest in things, but not when it came to Ciri. She was just as fierce and protective as any other mother. Perhaps even more so.
âI suppose a vacation doesnât sound too bad.â Or settling down once and for all, he thought, though kept that to himself in hopes she was keeping out of his thoughts. Their future - if there ever was to be a joint future at all - was uncertain at best. âToussaint is supposed to be quite nice this time of the year. And I suppose the wineâs a bonus, too.â
